- We are diving straight into getting Andy’s caddy looking abit better and the sill on this is the worst I’ve seen in a while, custom made sill rocker panel and plenty of welding, priming and painting. We are doing the best with what we’ve got with the zero budget restoration. How much better can we make it.

I cringed while editing that I was going to remove it but left it in, I sounded abit cocky and I don’t like that 🙈
I’m not sure what colour wire Nathan if you did get a minute to look let me know.. I just don’t want to mess it up as I have no clue..

Sorted! Much better! I was doing some bits on my T5 today, took a metal cover off behind the battery and rust bubbling through on the edges, so sanded it down, rust treated and a bit of black out of the can, had your voice in my head saying it’s gotta look pretty 😂

Brilliant job Nathan, picking up some excellent tips in the budget build series. Shame the later dubs rust so bad... i remember being around 12yrs old (nearly 40 now) working wiith my dad on his K reg mk2 passat. You could see the black wax they used to spray on the older models from factory, they didnt rust half as bad. Keep up the great work pal 👍

Andy is a lucky guy having a mate like you. Dam great job! It always amazes me rubbing down around rust spots and how the rust veins spread under what looks like OK paint.

@@YTDTETV oh yes transits are notorious for corrosion. Don’t think I’ve known any 1 that’s owned a transit to not have to have welding 🤦♂️

I’ll second that, I’ve rattle canned similar areas and with plenty of prep and taking your time it is possible to get a decent enough finish, interesting to see the different shades for the same paint code, I thought that was a thing of the past.

Problem with the front wigs is that the wing stonegards rub on the inside of the wings . Over time the paint is rubbed off then in comes the rust. When you get the replacement wings a thick layer of brush on sealer where the stonegard makes contact with the wing. Problem solved . Hope this helps.

I have been inundated with messages and emails recently, since playing with Andy’s caddy I’ve been non stop from 8am to 10pm for over a week, finding time to reply at the moment has been hard but I’m having the weekend off to get though them 👍

Great job Nathan, I wish I had friends like you! This van reminds me of my 2015 T5.1, white, 200k and needs a lot of rust repairs and paint jobs. I've taken it to the local bodyshops and no-one wants to touch it :( I think you should paint the bottom of the door, if I saw that for sale as is today, my brain would say "that door needs a repaint to match the quarter"
Hey Tom I think I will paint the door bottom for sure, ye some body shops don’t touch the crappy jobs but they ain’t to bad once you get into them.
@@YTDTETV Keep a bit of that paint spare for the bottom of the replacement wing too, then it'll look right :) The problem with my van is it was brush washed every 5k until it was on 192k when I got it. The Candy White is awful and it's had quick cheap repairs in the past in what could be DAF white! The local painters all have pride (or greed) and don't want their work to look odd so they either reject it or suggest a full respray. I don't want it to rot out like that Caddy so thanks again for the informative content because I may end up doing the same repairs myself with rattly cans!
