Freestate 1976 had quite a team:
Gysie Pienaar, Gerrie Gerrie-in-ons-huis (as my 4 yo brother called him based on my Huisgenoot posters in 1980 to NZ), Theunis Stofberg, De Wet Ras, Joggie Jansen (?), Erdrich Kranz, Martiens le Roux.
Springboks all - which really meant something back then.

My first ever Currie Cup Final that I have attended was in 1977 and I have not only a match day programme but also a match worn numbered jersey from this match on display in my Rugby Museum.

I also have strong memories of that final. Was shattered about Hermanus Potgieter disallowed try. I was so young, so passionate about rugby. Everything was so big.

75 was the first final I attended as a 6 year old. Drove down from Pretoria with my dad and 2 uncle's, staying in a muddy craven!! My dad plays a few games for the Vrystaat as youngster so the result was😢. The next year hovewer the party lasted for days😂.

    Good video thanks.
Anyone knows why Hermanus Potgieter try in 77 final was disallowed? Short of the line?

One thing noticeable is how fluent the scrums were back in those days, not 1 scrum fell flat

The Pierre Spies of 1975 is of course the deceased father of the actual Pierre Spies.
(ZA 110m hurdles champ, I believe?)
