  • A slightly different InfluEnzo episode today. I recently found out about two extremely rare and unusual FERRARIS. Who knew there was a Ferrari SUV in 1969? Or a Ferrari hatchback based on a 308 in 1984?
    Many thanks to Left Coast Classics for the clips of the Jerrari:

    I saw the 2nd "Jerrari" at Modern Classic Motors in Reno Nevada in 1973; I was told by the sales manager that the car was built after a 365GT 2+2 was destroyed on a test drive by one of the mechanics at MCM. The Jerrari had Borrani wires and an Anza exhaust on it! The reason Harrah didn't buy an LM002 was because at the time he was the West coast distributor for Ferrari in the U.S. P.s., I was at MCM to pick up a new 246 Dino coupe.

    Legend has it that back in the 60's the Italian exotics would do high testing of prototypes on the road with running gear in more normal vehicles to escape attention. Although some 1.6 badged Fiat flying by at 150+ mph would be unexpected.

  • @josephglenn5612
    @josephglenn5612 4 года назад

    The birth of the Jerrari was fully documented in a late '60s issue of Road & Track magazine. It was not a planned result, but rather a confluence of incidents. Bill Harrah was the owner of Modern Classic Motors in Reno. Modern Classic was the Ferrari importer for the western US. Luigi Chinetti was the importer for the eastern US. Modern Classic was also a Rolls Royce dealership. One day, on a test drive, the sales manager performed a high speed mating of the rear of the 330 GTC with a nearby telephone pole. Bill Harrah's personal vehicle at the time was a Jeep Wagoneer. After surveying the remnants of the Ferrari, he had the Ferrari and his Wagoneer transported to the workshop at the Harrah Auto Collection in Sparks. The artisans at the collection were given detailed instructions on how to mate the two chassis into one. The result was the Ferrari engine and transmission driving the 4WD transfer case of the Wagoneer. The nose clip of the Ferrari was beautifully blended into the body of the Wagoneer. A new windshield was crafted to maintain the flow from front to back. The rear of the Wagoneer body was smoothed and de-chromed to add elegance to the final visual. The rear hatch was decorated with an altered Scuderia badge (an S and a J) and a nameplate Bearing the name, Jerrari. The final paint was a pearl white, not the green crap that it has been turned into. The "special" Ferrari that Harrah commissioned from start-to-finish was a 330 GTS Targa. When Porsche introduced the Targa in the late '60s, Harrah was intrigued and took a silver 330 GTS from inventory at Modern Classic Motors, had it transported to the workshop in Sparks, where the body styled roll bar with integral rear window were crafted to the GTS. Again, this was all documented in Road & Track magazine (December 1969 i believe). I lived at Lake Tahoe in 1969 and spent a day at the auto collection in Sparks. In May 1972 I visited Modern Classic Motors and experienced the fortune of having both the original Jerrari and the Targa in the house. The Jerrari was in for routine service and the Targa was on the showroom floor with a For Sale sign on it. The odometer on the Targa showed around 2,500 miles. The asking price was very affordable for the times, but I don't remember more than that. The Targa was later sold to a collector who had it restored to it's original form. Just sharing.

    Thank you so much for sharing this. It brought back wonderful memories for me. I saw the Super 8 back in 1992 in Switzerland, this is among some of the ultra rare cars I was able to experience in person. At 15 years old I was given the opportunity to visit ESPERA Sabarro School of Design in Switzerland for a private after hours tour. I remember seeing both the super 8 and the super 12. In the collection was nearly a dozen BMW M1’s, the ones that were co developed with Lambo before they pulled out of the project with BMW. There were complete M1’s, Procar Competition cars and several bodies in white. Then there were the one off Sbarro concepts like the Monster G, a Kevlar bodied off-roader with Boeing 747 wheels and the wedge shaped Challenger. It was an amazing experience! Too bad this was before the days of digital/cell phone cameras. All I have is memories no photos in typical gen X fashion.

I didn’t have a chance to unpack and we were headed to Rome for the weekend for a walking tour of Ancient Rome with my history major brother. I am more relieved than you can ever imagine that Enzo didn't take the idea on. We've got more than enough supposed 'sports car' manufacturers selling out and making SUV's.
    Needed to keep Ferrari pure and not tainted by that. Pity by 2022 that won't be the case any more, but at least they held out longer than most.

    I agree on both cars. I wonder how much effort went into making the Jerrari a fully sorted vehicle. Not that much, I think. Probably why it lost its Ferrari engine and was orphaned. The effort put into the Sbarro was obviously extensive, though. I really like it. It's the kind of cool one-off car that, were I a rich collector, I would definitely buy. I'll bet that thing is amazing fun to drive.

    Nice alternative clip. Although I will say the Influenzo needs some tyre black stuff to enhance the red bodywork, the grey /brown lets the pristine look down a little. Sorry! Meguiars do a purple tyre gel which does a cracking job and keeps the tyres black for a long time.

    A Ferrari 308, The Magnum Edition. Do not know why people say it is a car for midlife persons when i see you leave the car so elegant. Just joking, my love goes for youre 147 GTA, but am an Alfa nut and drive as the almost typical soccer mom a Stelvio so can fit the kids in the back. That Gerrari looks like a car Citroën could have made

    Ok , I like the super 8, except for one glaring thing. Why would you ruin a 308 to achieve something that's no where near as good looking.

    The hatch is a Talbot Sunbeam in disguise. I remember as a kid seeing hundreds of these crappy Talbot’s roll out the factory in Linwood close to where I lived. Unfortunately, one day my mother thought it would be a good idea to buy one🤦🏻‍♂️ The government gave Talbot (Chrysler) a £55m plus grant only for the factory to close 4 years later🤡

    The Super 8 is ace! Your right that ruining a Ferrari to make it is bonkers but it looks so 80s cool !
    The Jerrari is just an abomination! That when more money than sense actually makes you senseless. Hideous contraption and one in the world is too many

    Runs a casino, friends with Sinatra.. so not a gangster then...ruining a 365 for a total monstrosity!! He deserved concrete boots for that alone. The hatchback, less vomit-inducing, but both proof that money doesn't buy class .. interesting story though 👍Hope your back gets better soon
