As a former UHGer, long, long ago...I do pay attention anytime their name or Optum pops up. This cyber attack should shine a HUGE spotlight on the monopolies that exist in US healthcare. HUGE single point of failure obviously, price rigging, payment/reimbursement controls...etc.

Dental industry here. Many of our customers had to go back to calling in prescriptions, filing paper claims and preauths ( or finding another vendor then working through hour long hold times to get enrolled and installed), and not receiving the bulk of their payments. Developers are scrambling to make the systems work together, supporting staff are overwhelmed, resources and training are constantly changing. But glad Optum'll buy everyone a soda when it's all over (if you'd ask for one in time...). 🙄
Also Kristen, my mind works just like yours. I steer more toward comedy because real life has enough anxiety for me.

I'm on Kristin's side on punctuality. Certain things are important to be punctual for and certain things aren't important to be on time for. If you show up early to the house and you expect me to entertain you while I'm setting up for the event, I will be angry at you.

My husband’s practice was affected by the hack and we weren’t sure if he was going to be paid for several weeks. He’s the sole provider for our family of 4 and that was stressssssful. I think it should be really eye opening to have fail safes in place on all levels of the system because it’s GOING to happen again (since we saw how quickly they paid the ransom). Yay monopolies 👎

I studied Cyber Security, and my core takeaway there is that we SHOULD NOT be relying so heavily on computers. There is so much that can go wrong, and it will.

I'm with Will on the time thing. I get very anxious about being on time so getting there a little (5ish min) early. Being there a few minutes early also gives me time to transition into whatever mindset I need to be in.

I agree with Kristin on the time issue - i have family members who get anxiety if they're not 15 mins early & it's frustrating!! Always interesting to hear your topics, as I'm in Australia & work in healthcare, which is slightly different to the US.

I agree with you both on the time issues. I’m an Ophthalmic Scribe and being punctual is key. Being a team player and considerate of others time is important. However, if there’s no team, or obligation to be somewhere at a specific time, I will be as late as I can. Also, early is on time, for formal events, appointments, and other events/activities relevant to the two.

My wife is the exact same as Kristin (even has a sister named Kristen). Hypermobile, hyper anxiety, CANNOT do horror movies of any kind, has to turn away at the first hint of danger/injury... she processes stimuli much differently than I. There's gotta be something with the dopamine receptors. I have a good time with THC but it just makes her tired.

Pneumothorax is collapsed lung. The worst I've seen on X-ray was a complete pneumonia (lung was totally collapsed) and it was the size of a kidney bean. Other than a cough the patient was completely asymptomatic! I immediately sent her to the ER by ambulance.

Omg Kristen you're so relatable. I'm unemployed and that's the only thing that makes my anxiety manageable and I also have social anxiety so every time I go outside it's painful and I procrastinate because I just don't wanna do it.
I am therefore not punctual myself because I'm just trying to relax. I wouldn't exactly say my brain is doing 5000 thousand things at once. It's really just that I dread doing anxiety inducing things, so I try to enjoy my time the most when not doing those things and then right after which makes me unproductive unless I enjoy the task I'm working on.
And yes, also since I procrastinate so much, it is when I actually have to get ready and do things that I also feel like doing extra stuff that doesn't take much time at all.
I also despise it when people come early to my place...
Everyday I wake up thanking the fact I wasn't born american.

  • @KxNOxUTA

I'm with Kirsten on the time thing!!! :'D I am ridiculously early when it's to some appointment outside, cause I'm scared that my ADHD brain will mess up the transfer. And I'm in "waiting mode" till then cause I fear to get sucked into hyperfocus with tasks!
I'm also that BUT am waiting somewhere further away, when it's an invitation to a home and turning up too early or on time is rude (cause hosts tend to be busy till last minute, so I turn up polite 5-10 minutes late)
The moment an appointment is connected to a very short transfer time, I'm busy till the last second! 🤣 Cause even if I get stuck in hyperfocus and suddenly were late, it'd only be a max of 5 minutes to arrive. The rule applies for when these max 5 minutes are done by feet (have no car), not public transport (cause they do not wait).
Also totally with Kirstin about the Horror Movies! I hate them. My sensory system and empathy levels and immersion do exactly the things she says (also yeah, all the safety checks, though at least I live in a country where I never worry about guns, also no kids).
But most importantly: I literally feel things I see in these movies, to some degree. My body reacts as if I'm getting hurt and it physically hurts. And I start feeling nauseous. And I can smell the smells (so long they're within my scope of experience) and these horrors will come and repeatedly wreak through my sensory system for days and months and out of the blue even years later, in moments when I'm already in a bad state. They'll basically turn into intrusive thoughts and they'll really ruin everyday things like "walking down the road alone" and I don't need that blasted sort of trauma.

As a patient, my husband couldn’t get a mental health medication for 2 weeks. Luckily he had an old prescription of a similar medication that could hold him over, but we weren’t sure how long it would take for him to get his medication. At the initial onset, I did a Google search, and it was hard to find major news stories about the vastness of the problem. So spot on about your take!

Lady G is right. Horror movies are a *very bad* idea for anyone with anxiety issues. ESPECIALLY if you're seeing it in a movie theatre. And while I don't have any frame of reference that could possibly approximate the American experience, I can understand that the fear of mass shootings makes everything that much worse.
That said. Doctor Who is horror. Stranger Things is horror. And, on the whole, Zombies movies and shows are horror. But I will happily watch them all. The big difference between these and your average slasher/horror flick is that the lore of these shows (and genre) is fascinating, well-written, with deep implications about society and the viewer.
As for the being on time bit - I'm a community healthcare nurse in Israel. And with Lady G again. There are things that have a hard start time and everything else has leeway.
But I will disagree with not keeping reptiles for pets. Reptiles are AWESOME and that's only in part because my 15yo daughter wants a pet snake.
