    The corpses of the victims of Everest are well preserved, due to the cold environment, posed in their last moments in the clothing they set off with on their way to the summit, frozen in time.
    Their bodies have been left there to this day because attempting to bring them down is so dangerous when high up the mountain above 26,000 feet, that attempting it can result in your own death due to the thin air and extremely cold temperatures.

    Some believe that due to the high number of fatalities that Everest is haunted. Climbers have reportedly radioed in to their base camps saying that they see other climbers standing in front of them wearing old gear before the radio cuts out and they are never seen again. Others believe that some ghosts are helpful, encouraging the climbers to make it to the top while others, seemingly jealous, attempt to scare climbers right off the mountain

      Power in fire bending comes from the breath. You can't fire bend properly if you can barely breathe. Even if you had oxygen tanks you'd have to make a choice. Either risk burning through your oxygen supply and die a slow asphyxiating death or preserve oxygen and risk freezing to death.

    The thing is, Everest isn't even the most deadly of the 8000ers. That would be Annipurna, Nanga Parbat, or K2. Everest is actually 11 out of 14 based on percentage of fatalities per ascent.
    Granted, these numbers are from 2012 at latest.
    Everest's high body count is due to one thing...it has the most people trying to ascend because it's the tallest.
    Cho Oyu is the next most ascended 8000er -- it's technically the easiest of the 14 (although NO 8000 meter peak is truly easy), and it's death rate is 1/5th that is Everest, with the lowest percentage of fatalities per ascent.

    You forget to mention the role that Summit Fever often plays in deaths on Mount Everest. When people get close, they often become overcome with something called "Summit Fever" which causes them to desire reaching the top at all costs. This leads to some climbers taking unnecessary risks, and leads to others abandoning the injured fellow-climbers to die rather than abandon the summit and attempt to rescue them.

    Some people say George Mallory and Andrew Irvine did actually reach the summit, which would of made them the 1st. And Mallory slipped on a dangerous slope on his way down, tried to steady his fall down with his ice axe, but failed due to the axe striking a rock and bouncing off, hitting his skull. This left Irvine on his own and most probably ran out of oxygen and died a slow and painful death. The thing is, only one climber saw them the previous day, and at that stage they were nearing the summit. Additionally, they carried a small camera with them and both said if they would reach the summit they would properly document it. Also, George said he would place a photo of his loved one on the summit. Neither the camera or the photo has ever been found, yet as Mallory was one of the best climbers there has ever been, people do really believe he was the first one, 30yrs before Hillary and Norgay were recorded to summit.

    • @jamesfsx4236
      @jamesfsx4236 4 года назад +3

      And ironically, Mallory's brother was no other than Air Chief Marshal Trafford Leigh-Mallory who was one of the men who lead the RAF to victory in the Battle of Britain. Trafford Leigh-Mallory would later die in 1944 travelling over the alps in a Avro York transport plane due to very poor weather. So both brothers died on the mountains.

    This reminded me of ‘Into Thin Air’ about the 1996 Everest disaster where the madness mountain and adventure expedition members had left Beck Weathers and Yasuko Namba but Beck Weathers was in a coma like state and had woke up and made his way down to Camp IV blind and confused. Beck made it down alive and he did get some stuff amputated. Anyways read the book and watch the movie.

    When you first think about this, it’s like “Huh?” Why can’t you drag them down the mountain?”
    Then you think a little more and realize you’re in one of the most remote area imaginable. There’s miles of jagged, ice covered terrain all around you. You’re higher up than some passenger planes fly. The weather could take a slight turn and in the process, end your life. Getting YOURSELF to safety is going to require every ounce of effort you have.
    And it starts to make a little more sense...
