I Mother Earth - One More Astronaut

- ===Lyrics===
One more astronaut in black skin
Of universe
One more travellin' man
With heavy tired eyes, feeling cold
Thinking around the clock of drinking
On the job, of the powdered food
And piss bags, never having sex and growing old
Headspace...alive and painless,
Weightless and almost sane
I close my eyes, I become the sky
Headspace...alone and shameless
Can't wait to find the faces
I left behind in a troubled time
Back home
It gets so lonely you know
Weeks and months alone chasing
Sleep and space junk and the dying
Stars I've known and loved
Through true decline
Of the five billion minds or so
Through mudslides
And earthquakes, the blue one holds
And rolls along
One more astronaut in
Endless old universe with
One more second chance at
Wondering why he's here at all
Bold are the ones who
Come over the line to fall over
The horizon...never ones to fade away
Then it hit me, this
Cosmic pull and energy
It kinda makes me wonder
If I'll ever make it Back home
I used to listen to Big Shiny Tunes and Read RL Stein Books for hours. Such a fun time in the 90s
Yup. the 90's were literally a golden age. I mean look at the world now, its just fucked in comparison.
Hell yeah
Yep those were two of my go tos back in the day
So greatful to have been a teen threw the 90s
No way lol me too. The haunted mask was my first goosebumps book
One of the best years in Canadian music, ever.
Who else
no. it was not.
Fuck yea. The Hip, Our lady peace, barstool prophets and these fuckers. It was awesome
There was a few..... all in and around there.... Tea Party was blowing minds, Our lady peace, hip was on other planet, Neil Young was messing with pearl jam.... those were the days. Moist did some stuff.... mix in the Rush, David Wilcox, Kim Mitchell was not long removed if he truly was..... Rusty, Gob...
@@kevinansley2087 don't forget big wreck too. 90's were awesome
Amazing song (and band) that kind of got lost in the shuffle of all the crushingly good music of that time. But it's a shame they get overlooked more than they should.
They're Touring apparently with MOIST and TEA PARTY within North America in 2024...
I MOTHER EARTH have Some WICKED TUNES ! !
Saw these guys in North Bay, Ontario when they were touring for this album. Stabbing Westward opened for them. AMAZING concert. The energy and musical talent that I saw on that stage blew me away.
Another fine example of great Canadian talent the world will never see
I bought this cassette at the record store while I was still too young to know what music was a good buy. It ended up being the best purchase I ever made.
Got it from my uncle's gas station. Such a great album
Saw these guys play live back in the day. They were actually amazing live. They had some small unheard of punk band trying to make it big open up for them. They called themselves Billy Talent. They were pretty entertaining then too.
geez, i haven't thought of billy talent in probably at least 10 years.
Can't believe how long I slept on these guys.. been a huge grunge fan for years. AIC, STP, Smashing pumpkins, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, etc. Never heard of these guys until I was listening to a Canadian radio station recently
see if u can find some Our Lady Peace. another great band
Our Lady Peace - The Tragically Hip - The Tea Party - Moist - Wide Mouth Mason - The Headstones - Econoline Crush All awesome Canadian Bands that dominated the post grunge era when US Mainstream went to rap rock and boy bands. You will enjoy them if you like 91-94 grunge alternative.
Econoline Crush had amazing prod it aged like fine wine.
Just imagine a whole country of places like Seattle and Portland, with some French.
I don't know if you guys ever hear "dallas green" Down there, or(forget the name of his band), but , or...you should check out Monster Truck. good cndn. band..but i'm goin' to see the trews, loverboy & the spoons in hamilton next month!summer in Canada rocks!!!
Good grief haven't heard this in years, so so awesome and awesome memories too
I agree! The music the, the parties. The friends. Usually all at once.
Loved this band back in high school, along with Silver Chair, Weezer, Bush etc.. the good ol days
I gotta say there were a lot of songs that formed my teenage years during the 90's and this was one of them. I associate this song a lot with King of the Hill as they both air around the same time frame where I grew up....Nashville to be exact. 103.3. WKDF had the best rock station. The Top 9 @9:09 was something to be around for every week night. As much as I love being able to look up any song I want on a whim, I truly miss having to sit by the radio to listen to a song that I loved. When it came on it meant so much more to me than it does now as I can wear that song into the ground if I want. CDs were expensive and cassettes just weren't the same. If you didn't grow up during that time you wouldn't understand. I think that's why this music hits so hard for me.
90s were so incredibly much better. Such Nostalgia for that time..
@Helen Von Devious. I wish we could just go back 7 years to when you wrote that comment. Wasn't so bad, eh.
Bests time in human history to be a teen.
Especially Canadian music 🇨🇦
I agree, nostalgia is a thing best served through cool music and good memories.
Hope you see this and have a nostalgic trip of the 90s!
Yes I know.
These guys were pure energy and I still keep DIG in my playlist to this day. Damn fine band, a huge 90's sort of funk rock vibe that I love as a percussionist.
This is actual music.
***** it is
i'd hate to see you idea of music if you dont think this is music.
big bad papa bear ... Damn Straight!!!
Yah bud! 100%
I know the modern world music is not real
Perfect song. One of my favorite rock collectibles is the promo Scenery and Fish poster signed by the entire band. Fort Myers, Florida.
So Good.
Love this band love this song
Gotta love this band. Great tone. We need a reunion.
they are in about 6 weeks
Going to see them in 3 weeks!
I'm from california and was always a fan of this fantastic band. Edwin rocked it.
Saw these guys with Finger Eleven in Chatham back in January! amazing show!
Mike Geniole 2nd Channel me too and ended up on shrooms with them and partied till 6am at the wheels inn hahaha
the good ole days
Two iconic bands. How lucky you are.
Any Pulse Ultra fans? They were a hard rock band from Montreal that formed around 2003 that named their only album “Headspace” after this song.
It was an outstanding album. The guitarist from that group went on to form a prog rock group called “The Chronicles of Israfel” who have released two absolutely stellar albums. No pun intended since they have sci-fi themes.
Zapdos has excellent taste, Pulse Ultra rules
THIS SONG ROCKS. SO MUCH ENERGY, LOVE THE SOUND OF INSTRUMENT RIFT IN THE MIDDLE. WOO HOO. ROCK ON.
This was one my favorite albums in the late 90s. Listened to it through many many times. Forgot about it until I was looking through my old CD case. Wow. Evergreen.
Great Song To Listen While Intoxicated, merci.
2020: still on my playlist.
How do you feel about the whole Album?
Wore out my CD. Actually that was my 3rd cd of this album
This song pumps me up before golf and gets me focused it's so hype. "I never miss, I never miss". Get's me in the zone right away. One of the best songs for athletes to train to hands down. When I was young I would listen to this and Finger Eleven's Good Times and it would help me through my brother's death a lot. An absolute masterpiece.
Golf?
You listen to this to hype up for Golf???
Don't people play it to relax lmao?
I use it for running and riding my indoor bike. One of 6 songs I play on 10....NO WAIT...11!
"I never miss, I never miss" *Hosel shank into the woods*
Love this song too for sports….here’s a little hidden pump up gem…Possum kingdom, Toadies.
This is on my playlist. Incredible production, great energy, and a nice hook!
I saw them in concert a few months ago, and this song kicked ass.
Listen on a good head set or sound system. I think my laptop is getting old. Not the same zip anymore. I turn this up in my car all the time.
Saw them live back in ‘94 or ‘95 at SAIT college in Calgary, Alberta. I recall there was a several minute conga solo when this song was played.
I forgot about them lmao I used to be so obsessed with MuchMusic
Still remember having this CD along with bushx and no doubt. Ah the days when much music played real rock. The muchmusic count down was awesome lol
I still have those CDs.....:D
Music died in 99
This song rocks!! Im 64 and know a good tune when I hear it. Four Sticks/Panic in Detroit - like drums.
Play very loudly.
No nostalgia for me; this awesome song still rocks the radio all the time :)
+smthone I know. I think it's a bit overplayed in Canada.
hard to overplay I mother Earth
Well, they have other great songs which don't seem to get any airplay. So, most people only know this one.
I know Levitate, Not Quite Sonic, Rain Will Fall, So Gently We Go, Summertime In The Void, Used to be Alright, Another Sunday and Raspberry...
Robert Baratheon i miss the fuckin Canadian Highway man. Puffin and goin from the coast to the rockies just living the music. I live in the USA now and its cool but not the same. No vast distances of wilderness or shit. I love this band.
First heard this song on a VA compilation promo CD that I received from Alternative Press Magazine during the 90s, and soon was "hooked" on "Scenery and Fish"
Love this song
Damn this reminds me of my youth... I can smell the pine trees, and feel the cold California air down my spine...
In Canada there's a lot of pine trees and crisp air, lots of nostalgia. Songs like this bring back bittersweet memories. Hope you see this so you can relisten to this song.
Let's enjoy the memories together shall we?
Damn this song old as me, rocks to this day ! Back home !
This song reminds the world of it's youth.
So let me remind you of this song again, I'm sure you won't mind this ping.
I'm glad I found this in the pandemic. I used to listen to this album constantly back in the day.
Makes two of us, even now that that tripe is over.
I used to have all these cd's and have mixed and mashed left. you cannot buy them anywhere..so glad to see them in here!!
Super curious.... it's "mixed and matched". Did you think it was "mixed and mashed"? No judgement. I just think that kind of thing is funny. I do it myself from time to time.
I was Facebook friends with jag Tanna nice guy likes guitars especially strats
I haven't referred to MTV as "empty-V" for nothing, but they were the first to expose me to Tori Amos, and this band here, and that's definitely something .
My first live concert was seeing I Mother Earth when they toured for this album.
Crazy experience. I was only 9 or 10. My first live concert and it was made even better when my younger brother started hitting on the cute, gothy female bartender and then meeting Edwin and talking to him for about an hour. It was an almost forgotten moment in my long life, but it changed so much of who I am that I will probably never not dwell in the memory every so often.
9 or 10?......19 or 20, you mean, right?
@@Protege2001 Nope. 9 or 10. I was the cool kid in Grade school. Also, I'm old.
@@atthecore4560 but you said above your younger brother was hitting on the bartender....and if your old, I've got ten or more years on you, making me ancient..lol.
@@Protege2001 Nah, I'm ancient, but you, you're from a bygone era XD
@@atthecore4560 lol thanks man
crazy underrated
I was listening to this in Florida in the 90s though Americans didnt understand it. It rocked a few campus parties.
Canada rocks!
you were in the south they dont understand anything. But americans for sure "understood" this. Detroit got this the same time canadians did as being right next to windsor gave us everything canadian as it came out. The 90s canada absolutely dominated america for good music. Hell i have the video from much music (yes the canadian channel not the american version) from back in the day on VHS.
Canada absolutely owns music~
I'm from Massachusetts, my older brother was into these guys. What other Canadian bands were big back then? I don't recall Canada being a dominant force in rock music at any point in time, let alone the 90s lol.
John Smith Our Lady Peace, Pure, Limblifter, The Tragically Hip, 54-40, Sloan to name only a few. Worth a listen.
spirit of the west!
Best band ever. I'm from the block too. Dufferin and Lawrence
Incidentally, this song is great to get stuck in your head while surfing. Pulled my only 180 aerial tailslide to this song.
I jam this while shredding the trees with ski's,the drum breakdown goes well for the real technical stuff
If only I knew what that was lol
RIP Dave Wilkinson, one of the best Canadian Drummers, best friend i ever had, died because of our shitty health care system in rural Ontario of an aneurysm in the hospital, the whole time i knew him he never even told me he was in IME, just found out like year ago..
Saw this live Edgefest '96.
I'm old enough to have bought this album for 1cent from Columbia House
On the highway you need to watch it, by the 2nd verse it sonically shifts cadence and you'll find your self absolutely flying
Great track, this was a welcome recommendation from yt. Great sound.
Back in my Rock radio days I had a chance to play 'bongo's' on stage with these guys for WXTB's Gasparilla event in Tampa, to this song...what a rush
love the bass and drum section.fg smokin¢°¥¥]×÷ππ
Please take be back to the 90’s .. 😍😍😍
Bring a pack of ciggies, old boxy cars and teenage mutant ninja turtles for the nes. You're gonna need them if we're going back to the 90s.
Personally I'd rather skip the expensive instant camera film and cheesy movies and just remember the good times we had eh?
@@basedmax9029 💯😊👍🏿
Sick tune!! 🤘🤘
Still loving this in oct 2023 ❤
I work in radio...one of my favorite all time moments was being invited on stage to f with a set of bongos at one their shows in Tampa for a Guavaween show here ...they were amazing live and Jag was Money
Amazing how something as insignificant as bongos can make one's day in context. It's been a while, you should give this song another listen for bongos sake!
I bought this album a long time ago...I guess when it first came out. I forgot I have this CD. I forgot about this band and for some reason their name just came in my head and I thought...ahh...I wonder if they have videos on RUclips...sure enough...this was my favorite song by them. I didn't know they were still making new albums. That's cool.
Been even longer since you commented, so why don't you come click on this notification to jam once more to this masterpiece?
Going to see these guys in Chatham, Ontario with F11 next month!
1996 was the year for I Mother Earth. And I sat in my cold dark room and got stoned.
Same
one of the best shows i seen
Loved them all the way here down under :D
Great tune
This was the very first song ever released on the Big Shiny Tunes series. A little trivia for ya. Your welcome.
awesome song!!!!
I agree, you should come listen to it again! It's been a while but I'm sure you won't mind
man does this bring me back... Arts County Fair.
Whenever I'm on the east coast of Canada. I think alot about this song. It's just an east coast kinda thing.
Yeah. And whenever I'm on the east coast of Canada. I think alot about this song/album... Good observation ;)
Still Awesome in 2019
Songs awesome period. It's immortal,
@handsomebrick thats the beauty of music man. It speaks to you in a way thats different from the person next to you. Its not rap, we dont need to be hung up on lyrics.
Saw these guys as my second concert
Saw them too with Moist and Our Lady Peace in Quebec City back then. Amazing show.
Thank you, CHOM 97.7.
yeah but astral media sucks dick making Chom play shitty songs 5 times every hour again their will. per se by contract
It can get a tad repetitive, but all the same, they have a nice mix of classic rock and present-day stuff.
Ningty at nine cant miss it at my job
Still killer in 2017....
nockanoo62 2018*
Christmas 2018 lol
Also in 2019
saw them friday night w finger eleven
@@mikelake5828 I saw them in Chatham on the 10th thursday
Kinda weird that this song reminds me of Cherub Rock by Smashing Pumpkins, but overall the highly underrated rock song of the 90s.
Lead singer is from my home town :) Went to school with his brother!
***** peterborough
Corner Brook, NL!
That's a totally different singer than the one in this song.
Yea thats not edwin. Thats the guy who took over for him. Theyre both great
Edwin's the janitor at my school.
well hot damn this is the real deal. thnx
Just now discovered this band because I decided to see who the singer was for Alex Lifesons solo project 'Victor'. Glad to have found IME
For Canadians, what even is the 90s without the CanCon!
Yes this Canadian band..has deep messages in a lot of lyrics such as this song & "Rasberry" xl music also
One of the best Albums ever.
I forgot how this song went until I heard like the first 3 seconds 😂 these guys used to kill it with or without Edwin
somehow when I listen to this album I am taken back to early early morning driving across Saskatchewan near Alberta, the sun coming up and listening to this was just so zen o>o
Ok shaggy!
There is mystical aura to this song, no doubt about it. It seems to resonate with a lot of people so there must be something with that haunting guitar that causes the effect...
Maybe you and I can relisten to this song together and jam out, for those cold morning drives?
Always loved Canadian rock bands. Notably April Wine, Tragically Hip and I Mother Earth. Great Guitar & musical talents! American media/radio is to scared to play great stuff like this. If it can't sell to the lowest common demoninator of mouth breathers then great talent be damned!! Can anyone say Justin Beiber?! I rest my case for the sorry state of the music industry.
Rip Gord downie. You raise great points and have great taste my friend, now let me ping you so you can relive this song once more.
Agree boys.
wow edwin is back with IME and they're releasing another album this year. fuck that's amazing!!!!
4:12 best part
Saw these guys in 2000. Minnedosa with jar n nickleback when in there infancy
High school was awesome.
Awesome
Thanks Mark!
Fuck i miss drinking whiskey out at the ship and anchor in Calgary. Trippin and droppin quarters in the best fuckin juke box ever. I miss this music.
Beginning of this song reminds me of a cartoon I use to watch when I was a kid. Back in 92 it's a Japanese anime
I wish I was a Astronaut. I’d be listening to song in my capsule
I don't, space is overrated. Songs good though
good band for the time
Great Job!!
Sick bassline
It sounds so good yeah
Saw these guy on this tour in boston mass....fucking awesome
I always heard it as as "zen it hit me, this cosmic pulling energy, the kind that makes me wonder if I'll ever make it back home." But most official sources agree I'm wrong.
Deep, honestly that's very badass.
How about we listen again to check and make sure your right?
Edwin is a god!
Still bangin' my head in 2020.
When is it not?
