Great video... thanks for sharing your experience. Question - why did you choose that sail plan? What added value did you get from a full battened main? If that also a gaff rig? Safe sailing.
Hi Alan, it is a chinese lugsail, aka Junk rig, in the tradition of Blondie Haslar's JESTER, but with camber sewn into the sail to provide much more power than a flat junk sail popular in Blondie's day.
Thanks for your kind words George. Going out after Xmas for about a month around North East Coast of NZ. Will shoot some video and edit it when back. So keep a look out some time in Feb.
I was going to send ewe a link to tell you Ming Ming 111 was in build. But I see you're subscribed anyway, Im looking at downsizing to a Lyle Hess 24 foot (Seraffyn) RC
Ah yes - lovely boat was Serafyn. Small down below I believe although far beamier than even the Twister, and if you're not overly tall it will still be quite comfortable.
Hi Stuart, only just seen this comment. Imagine beam reaching in very light winds on a rolly beam sea. As the boat rolls, a forward raked mast helps the sail to remain to leeward; and it helps reduce slatting.
i think the only thing your vidio lacks is the narative i see you did the work in auckland saw orams marine in background would be interested in the whys off some off the alterations I'm thinking off doing something similar to a stewart 26 with aim off cruising the pacific

Google up all these sailors and their boats, and you will have a bunch of rock solid proven ideas on how to make a small boat simple and safe for offshore work. My boat is a conglomeration of ideas from all these sailors. Things may still change, and I doubt my boat is finished it's evolution, and of course I have yet to test her out on the big blue.
@John Stewart Hi John. I helped out where I could and while I have gained some skills over the past few years, I am not of a standard that allows me do away with a skilled boatbuilder to do major construction work as I did to the companionway, cockpit, and mast step on PANGO. Even at "mates rates" I spend a fortune (for me) on PANGO. And I still have more work to do (Hull/Deck joint this summer). The junk rig is far and away the best rig -for me- as a single hander. It is not so much the 'Power" (a bermudan rig with good sails and a skilled helmsman will always do well to windward comparatively) as it is the ease of handling. Each to their own though. I always say "for me". I never say to our Bermudan Brethren that pointy rigs are inferior to junk rigs for cruising. I can't be bothered getting into arguments or any aggro. If people are genuinely interested, then I will gladly tell them what I know - which isn't much. The best resource by far for Junk Rig is the JRA ( junkrigassociation.org ). Cheers.
An ABSOLUTELY perfect blend of Hull form and new rig. Blondie would be so proud!

Amazing work, fantastic idea changing to a junk rig.
Just gorgeous. MingMing2's accomplishments also show how well the junk rig works on a small vessel. I love what you've done.
Very impressive my friend. What are your plans for her?
I want to get to England. Falmouth for orders, if you like. English maritime history fascinates me, and so that is my initial plan.
@@junk_rig_sailor1698 Nice boat and good plan, make sure to visit Dartmouth harbour it's a fantastic place!
@@junk_rig_sailor1698 When Wave Rover is passing through the South Pacific lets see if we can have a Modified Contessa RV in Fuji.
@@RoversAdventure Unfortunately I think you will be in and gone from Sth Pac before I am ready to leave. Still stuck in a 9to5'er for a few years yet.
@@ChessmasterHex I have a old copy of Mark Fiswhick's West Country Cruising - looks a wonderful place.

Nice job! Looks great, and a most enjoyable vid :-)
Well done. Love the transition to junkrig.
My goodness!! Truly epic. I love the mainsail
Wow that looks beautiful
Why does your mast lean forward?

Beautiful
Bravo!!
Gorgeous
Cool sail
