    This is awesome. You just know if this car was in the USA it would be on a 4 post ramp, in a garage the size of an Amazon warehouse, full set of snap-on tools, all next to a million pounds worth of auto exotica. And here we have two blokes, laying on pea gravel, in the rain, Wickes patio table as a work bench. Fkin awesome. 👍 power to your elbow. Great resto.

    In Nottingham's bounds, where legends oft are told,
    Lads with zeal revive a Corvette old.
    With wrench and polish, they craft with care,
    Restoring glory to a C4 rare.
    In Nottingham's streets, their tale resounds,
    Of lads who bring a treasure 'round.
    With passion pure and steadfast will,
    A Corvette's revival, daunting still.
    Cheers from Houston.

    Great choice on the Black Hole… it’s a fantastic product for swirls and imperfections. Looking solid! Also, don’t mind the engine stuff… i could watch hours of engine diagnostics… it’s the heart of the car, and worth the viewing. painting makes no sense w/ an original finish that good. towards the end of the project have a paint specialist address the little defects if that gives you comfort. not only is it "only original once"... you (or a subsequent owner) can always paint the whole thing later. which, btw, only adds to your cost basis, while decreasing originality. it now looks fine enough to inspire your forthcoming efforts to solve the known (& yet unknown) drivability issues. speaking of inspiring, when you become exhausted & frustrated, remind yourselves you are indeed inspiring many committed driveway diy mechanic / enthusiasts. {in my case, mostly reminiscences... thanks for that too.} cheers.

    It's come up really nice, good job. Likely it's had moisture in a box of two, if all else fails clean inside with electrical cleaner/lub and a soft toothbrush. If you get stuck bleeding brakes by yourself use a piece of pipe like you had plug end with(I use a bolt) and cut a fine 10/15mm slit in it, by the bolt or whatever you use to plug hole.So it will close after the pressure has dropped. but put well inside a bottle because it squirts out. If you use DOT 5.1 doesn't damage paintwork. But don't hold me to that have a look. Run it in my BMW E91 been fine, running Brembo pads and disks Std calipers. The gloves you use I only use for things like stripping carbs, for doing most jobs I use the woven backs with latex palms/fingers. More heavy duty can reuse for months. Good luck with finding the fault. 👍

    If you feel like you need to bleed the brakes again, do it the other way around. Left front first, then right front, left rear and right rear. Don't ask me why, but that did the trick on my '87 Corvette. The engine sounds like it's missing and there was black smoke coming out the exhaust indicating a too rich mixture. I hope you guys(blokes...) can figure that out. Good luck!

    I think you guys are doing a great job, ignore the haters and do it your way, it's your car.
    Shame the cam sensor replacement didn't fix it, if it was mine I'd look at the wiring next, maybe drop it off at a good auto electrician who could scope the sensors and see which circuit is the culprit. If you want to learn more about auto electrics with the view of trying to fix it yourselves, I recommend Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics and South Main Auto RUclips channels. I wouldn't be bored seeing you guys try to tackle it, more content the better!
    You only get original paint once and it looks great after your efforts so I don't think it needs a respray, maybe take it to a bodyshop for repairs, the good thing about black is it's very easy to blend something like the wing without painting all of it.
    Are you planning on doing any shows next year? Would be great to see it in person.
    Oh and one final thing, while the handbrake is playing up, please put it in the gear that goes away from your house, not towards it, otherwise you might need that respray and a lot more parts from the States! 😅

    I think the paint will come up a treat with a proper detail. As it has sat so long, I would definitely give it a blast with some fallout remover (should really have been done before claying). Use a good pre wash snow foam (Bilt Hamber Autofoam is good), rinse and then wash with a non wax shampoo. Then clay again, do a light cut with a quality compound, wipe with iso prop panel wipe, inspect for defects and repeat if necessary. Once happy, get a good polishing pad and ideally a non resin polish (Autoglym SR polish is good, but has fillers and hides scratches, so good for a quick spruce up, but not if you are applying a sealant). Give it a couple of polishes with different grades of polish (maybe a 2,500 & 3,500 as it is a black car). Then important step, is to use a good panel wipe before applying any wax or sealant, to remove any polish, wax or residue. This ensures the final coat of sealant, bonds with the clearcoat or laquer and is not sitting on top of a coat of polish ( I like Bilt Hamber Cleanser for final step). Then apply a good wax or ceramic coat and should be good to go.
    Maybe get the paint defects sorted first though, as you will likely have to repeat the process if not when it has been done. Also, careful with that old school rotary on black paint. You can get good results with them, but very easy to get holograms in darker paints. Random orbital / mop is a safer option.
    I get that this was a quick detail to spruce it up a bit though and you probably had a better detail in mind for further down the line 🙂.

      Thanks so much for the tips - We're not experts, just learning as we go and doing our best based on past experiences.... Great shout about the panel wipe, something we completely overlooked. You are right, it was a quick spruce up and a sort of "looksee" to see what we're dealing with. Further work required, me might employ someone to do it (possibly the @thecarcleaningguru if he's up for it!)

    • @kevinwhite8836
      @kevinwhite8836 2 месяца назад

      @Auto_Funk If you have the time, do it yourselves, more content and people can get better with you 🙂. The only issue you may have is trying to ceramic coat outside with British weather and seagulls / pigeons targeting your newly polished car. It really needs to cure inside for a few days to get max protection.
      My experience would say, forget the 3 to 5 year type ceramic coats though, they don't normally last anywhere near that long, are more difficult to maintain and you cannot do any paint correction without needing to reapply (minor scratch, birdstrike etc). Personally, I much prefer the semi permanent ceramic coats that you apply maybe twice per year. You can use these outside (preferably not in direct sunlight) and they last around 4 to 6 months on average, depending on cleaning products, environment etc. I have always got on well with Mother's CMX Ceramic Spray. Easy to apply and lasts really well and a bottle will last for many full applications.
      It will make future cleaning much easier.

Being original and looking great is far far better than looking all new via repaint etc. If not left as original, you may well have just built a replica. A replica is worth nothing against a good looking original. Well done. Working in front of your home in the driveway on a street front is just mind blowing to me. Working in the rain, dedication. Regarding the engine running rough, GM’s are finicky when it comes to certain things. There are aftermarket plugs that say they fit, but they are not correct. You have to use GM plugs for that specific engine. They are expensive. I learned this with my GMC pickup. After wasting money on aftermarket plugs, I put the factory plugs in and it ran perfectly. That may be part of the problem.

    • @Auto_Funk
      @Auto_Funk  2 месяца назад

GM called it the Tech 1. The old SnapOn "brick" also works as well as the old OTC obd1 for GM. If you do have the ability to pull live data, I'd like to see a video of all of the readings while the rough running is occurring.
