📝 Quitting corporate job
Hello! May I know what masters are you pursuing and are you on a scholarship?
Social sciences, self-sponsored studies!
i quit corporate 3 years ago to do a mid career switch from banking to nursing and currently am a nursing final year student. 😅Amongst all the youths.. should i say i regret? honestly some times i do miss work life corporate but I wanted to live my remaining life doing something more meaningful in life helping patients. no doubt people might say i’m silly but who’s to judge me for what i do. they don’t live my life. most people are afraid of jumping and just stick to work till they die in the corporate race. wow, you take a very strong painkiller, maybe you should switch to a lower potency one as that drug is more for after a surgery pain management 😊
Well done making the unconventional switch! It’s natural to feel regret at some point, but I know I will regret even more thinking about the “what-ifs” for not pursuing non-corporate path while I still can. YOU GOT THIS!!!🤜🏼🤛🏼
@@yuldaze we got this 💪 there are many what ifs in life. Sometimes we just got to do it and the answer will reveal
If you enjoy nursing, then I said you made a wise decision!! Corporate world is full of politics and bullshits
This was me just last August 2023. Quit a rather well paying healthcare corporate job and switched to the Early Childhood. Had to make some lifestyle changes, but I feel so motivated to go to work every day now and no longer have insomnia/anxiety.
It's a long way ahead but I definitely agree that finding work that fulfils you from within is the #1 priority to lower the chances of any mental breakdowns that will cripple you for good in the future, especially when you already know corporate is not for you.
Thank you soooo much for sharing your own career switch!! V v inspiring, makes me feel hopeful about what’s ahead 🥹 Work anxiety in the corporate world is more common that we think, but people have normalised it in exchange for stable & fancy paychecks
Amazing you really got the courage to do that.
@@yuldaze so much truth to this! lol I am in the midst of career change too at good ol 39 years of age
i don't usually comment, but felt the need to because i'm in the same boat as you! quit my corporate job of 2 years, a month ago for the same reasons, with nothing lined up. There's so much uncertainty but at the same time i've never been happier! all the best in your new journey ahead :)
Thank you! Wishing you the best in your next adventure too!
All the best in your new journey!!

This is so exciting and all the best to you!! Excited to see your new vlog contents 😎
Thank you!💕
good luck on your new journey!!! keep making this kind of vlog huhuhuh!!!
Heh thank youuuu!!!will keep making as long as yall keep watching 😆
I worked a corporate job for more than a decade right after U. First 10 years was interesting but after that there was nothing left except getting ahead in the rat race. I had no interest in faction politics or brown nosing, and I wanted to put my abilities to good use. So I quit without a job.
Eventually returned to U for my Masters, Remember fondly searching for a Prof to be academic advisor, begging for academic references etc. Proudest moment was when I gathered with all the incoming research students on matriculation day. It is now 7 years since that day and I am now working as a researcher. My pay is still lower than my corporate pay 12 years earlier but I have zero regrets. In fact, I find that academic research is not my cup of tea either so I am preparing to move again. My aim is to the best in the world at what I enjoy doing, whilst contributing something useful to society. It doesn't matter if I succeed or not, only that do my best and stay true to my values. Good luck to all those who seek their own purpose in life.
I had goosebumps reading your story, because the first part of your comment is exactly how I felt. Meaningless rat race that I had no interest in but had to participate anyway to survive. Curious what are your next plans if you don’t mind sharing!
@@yuldaze Anytime someone sees through the absurdity of the human condition, especially in today's globalized capitalist and hyper competitive society, they are taking a first tentative step into the unknown. Most people are so bound to societal conditioning that they will never contemplate this step. Thus they are forever trapped on the treadmill that forces them to run ever faster. I am not suggesting we reject society, but that we can learn to live in it with wisdom.
These days, two questions guide my daily life - ''Who am I' and 'How should I live?'. Through my failed careers, I have found that I have a very strong aptitude for R&D Engineering. So I head in the direction I think will lead to me become a top inventor and designer. I hope to build things that bring happiness, or lessen suffering in this world. Humans suffer from the terrible disease of always wanting what they call desirable and not wanting what they deem undesirable. We can choose where we aim, but the Universe decides where the arrow lands. I try to live in cooperation with the Universe instead of clashing with it when it gives me something I don't want.
It is of course very difficult to accomplish. But if you can train yourself to do it you will tread much lighter in this world and life will become a mystery to be explored, rather than be feared.

All the best for your studies! I can understand the kind of feeling working in corporate job. Yup, pay is definitely better but life is meh. Switched a few jobs in past few years that is non-corporate and loved every seconds of it! Wanting to try out and learn different things before I get too old haha.
Thank you! Congratulations on making the bold switch too

Congratulations sis❤ maybe u can go backpacking for a while 😊
Thank you! Wish I could but need to study 😂
I did few jobs started from security officer , food delivery , housekeeping , logistics etc etc.. now im a desktop engineer. Using my funds to upskill on the weekends too! Felt motivated to learn new things rather than working 6days at times and spend that one off day rotting at home. Meanwhile I am still stuck in the rat race… but tbh pretty content with being able to do my job well + decent pay 😅 Recently got poached (if rat race had tiers this is god tier) but I just feel too tired to “chiong” anymore tho I am only in my early 30s 🥲 Always a dilemma between what I want versus what I think I should want… you are sooooo brave thou!
I’m not sure I have time to post any more frequently than once a week with the studies 😂 I always envy folks like you, who suit the rat race! It’s not a bad path to take if you’re not miserable and are well paid. Can aim for early retirement to pursue your interests heh
Congrats!
Haha thanks !
You can go humanistic Center at Yishun there always got a lot of seats and sockets. But of course downside is noisy and no air con. But can listen to music to block out the noise.

HAHA thanks this makes me feel knowledgeable 🤣 TQTQ for the well wishes!
Sorry to hear you quit your job so fast. You are still very
young and you will have no problem to find another job.
Remember quitting your job doesn't mean it is the end of
the world. You might miss you pay checks at the end of
the months but if you are actively looking for another
job, it will come sooner than you think. Perhaps looking
for a kind of job like freight forwarding, logistics might be
better because if you don't like the company you can
switch to another company easily as they prefer to
look for people in the same industry. Best of luck.
Remember low pay is better than no pay.
Thank you for the well wishes and advice!🙂 I like your last line: low pay is better no pay. I will push on 👊🏼

Hey! Not sure if you remember me but i was the dude in architecture in your comments section. Recently quit the job/profession as well but it is a struggle trying to find ways to pivot out of the industry. Atm, i might be considering to take up further studies.
Hiii! I think you mentioned you were drowning in multiple projects previously when I was still job hunting. Glad you’re working on pivoting now! If you can, furthering studies would def enable you to switch more easily. Which industry are you looking at?
@@yuldaze atm I'm still trying to make use of my current experience and degree to pivot to jobs in other industries that still have some relevance to what I did in architecture and something that i have some interest such as aviation! But if that doesn't bear results, I think I will try to go for a MBA to give myself a chance to go for a broader range of job opportunities since I'm currently too specialised.
Great that you’re so clear on what you are gunning for! Important to have some direction to work towards 🙂 Wish you the best in your new journey, hope to see your updates in comments in future heh
Did you consider sponsorship for your masters? Interested in taking a masters as well but it’s so crazy expensive! Would be great to hear your perspective ☺️
Never considered sponsorship bc I don’t have the relevant background and I’d be worried about the bond too! It is indeed expensive but I see it as investment in myself 🙂

How do you define "corporate life"? 9-5 work in the office type of work? Watching your video just made me have craving for mee tai mak tomorrow.
Yup more or less the definition. Go for MTM tomorrow!😆
Similar situation. I left my previous job last month. Because to chaotic, half desk-bound/half physical, in the end I end up more doing physical work due to so many error from the ground level.. and of course it affected corporate people quite a lot, and they are not happy.. so I left, but my new current job also I don’t have interest, but much more relaxing. And I’m thinking of quitting as well. Haiz, what a life 😌😌
🥲🥲🥲 the bane of a job!
@@yuldaze exactly.!! Not even one month.
Congrats. I left the corporate grind 6yrs ago and never looked back
CONGRATS TO U TOO! What are you doing now if you don't mind sharing?
I quit corporate due to office politics and be a NEET for 5 years already… mentally I’m in a better place now. But it sucks that I am still dependent on my aged parents for pocket money. Once I inherit my parent’s HDB I will rent it out for passive income and get a place of my own. 😢😢
I’m sorry you’re going through this 🥺 glad that you placed priority on your mental well-being! Besides waiting to inherit your parents’ HDB, are there other things you’re planning to do?
I personally feel like job loyalty is a thing of the past. No point being loyal when these days it’s so much easier advancing career through job hopping than trying to be promoted internally. Besides, most companies don’t even bother training their employees these days and will gladly trim the fat when times are tough.
Rant aside, I applaud you for having the courage to take a risk and pursue a path that you find rewarding. All the best!
Thank you!🫶🏼
If you don’t mind me asking. Hence how do you spend on your daily expenses given that you will not have a monthly safe salary now? As I feel savings sooner or so will be depleted as well 😢if we spend more than what we save.
Tbh without RUclips, I don’t think I would have dared to take this path. I’ll share more in future videos!
@@yuldaze yes yes please do! It is really good to hear from other perspective than the norm as well :) at least not a norm in Singapore when we are too used to the rat race. Hahaha oops 🙊
When you are young. Do what you want than stick to the norm.
For me, Im waiting for retirement 😆 or rather been ask to go so to get some payback (but that period seems gone unless they gg to do restructuring again) 🤪 Im not on mgmt level, so bascially just do what biz said (unless go against ethic n prof ground) so Im still a office worker

Hope you find something better!✨
Hello there, Would u consider doing a Q&A / Ask me anything video to allow subscribers to know u better?
Thanks! Will consider integrating one into my videos :)
Hmm what masters program did you enrolled in?
Social sciences!
There is nothing fundamental wrong with the workflow of the corporate system. Corporate system works to ensure survival of the group. In order to do so, the system needs to have a framework on risk management/control of risk, stakeholder management and crisis management. Project management system comes in to ensure that all projects are running in an orderly manner with multiple data points created to prevent problems that are caused by human errors.
Unfortunately, some people are not suited to work with this system and have to work for themselves. No layers, no repetition. They cannot expand, could only work on small scale projects, because any larger scale project will again require corporate system of workflow.
Could you please share what gave you the courage to quit corporate , and go without salary? I’m also tired of corporate but don’t have the courage to do so!
So I just want to say that you are so inspiring … and that at least you know what you want to do
