- The South African Railways Class GMA 4-8-2+2-8-4 of 1954 is an articulated steam locomotive. Between 1954 and 1958, the South African Railways placed 120 Class GMA Garratt articulated steam locomotives with a 4-8-2+2-8-4 Double Mountain type wheel arrangement in service.

We lived in SA in the 1970's when garratts still in regular use - to see ( and hear ) them at full chat on main line from Capetown to Rhodesia was something else

Travelled from Cape Town to Broken Hill a few times and from Joburgh to Wankie / Bulawayo / Salisbury in the 1960,s all behinded Garratts
I'm from India and never seen before such steam locomotives. In my childhood period I traveled a lot in such trains. The sound of these locomotives still facinates me. Thanks for video.
These Locomotives were in service from 1964 to 1968.
