    I think a lot of the critique of the bag seems to be from those who want to use it more as an EDC and/or travel. This line, though, *is* primarily marketed for the outdoors, hiking, rock climbing, and such. So for those activities, I can see how the plethora of cords would be helpful in lugging around bulky outdoor items.
    Thank you for the review! I'm exercising a little more patience for the next launch - hopefully an EDC backpack geared more towards non-photographers, but can still cater to broad use cases.

    I like the exterior look of the bag. The Bungie cords and access looks like a hassle to deal with

    • @mrmonday42
      @mrmonday42 Месяц назад +2

      Most backpacking backpacks use a similar cinch cord system for the main compartment.

    • @MitchKirkham
      @MitchKirkham Месяц назад +3

      @@mrmonday42Agreed but as someone who backpacks a lot all of my bags with cinch cords have the cord running circumferentially around the opening with the “brain” of the bag then clipping on top. Alternatively my roll-top bags all use clips to secure the roll. I absolutely love how this bag looks and I think there is still plenty of potential so don’t get me wrong but I’m curious to see how the closure works in person if I get the opportunity.

    • @mrmonday42
      @mrmonday42 Месяц назад +4

      @@MitchKirkham It looks like the rolltop will be secured by the cord unless you fill it to the top. My primary concern is that the kangaroo pocket has no weather protection at all. It will act like a bucket in the rain, so hopefully it has drainage.

    As an outdoor hiker who uses Zpack and Hyperlite packs I was thrilled to see a Peak Design roll top, after watching your video I feel the same as you, I don’t like how it unravels when closing. Maybe they can add Velcro or a magnet to hold it in place

  • @WabbitCrouton
    @WabbitCrouton Месяц назад +1

    All those loops are indeed confusing, slow to use, often with both hands. But I do love the dual option to either use the rolltop (albeit more labor-intensive than normal rolltops) and the clamshell (angels: Ah! ~Ahhh!) to get access the whole internal bag space.

    11:33 Hey Christine, just wanted to say thanks for the awesome video! I've got a couple of questions about the Peak Design Outdoor Backpack 25L. Does it have side access to the Camera Cube without needing to open the entire bag? If it does, is it on one side or both sides? Also, is this the older or the latest Peak Design Camera Cube, and what is the size? Thanks!

    • @OdiumTV
      @OdiumTV 25 дней назад +1

      neither have side access and the side access cubes don't fit the 25 in a way to access them sideways anyway. recommendation on my part would be to strap in a small cube to the top for access through the rolltop and use back access for other things. PD kind of missed the mark with the rolltop imho, wish it had one of their zippers instead of the flimsy magnet solution

    • @chrisbale11
      @chrisbale11 24 дня назад

      @@OdiumTV So, this bag doesn't have side access, and we need to pay for camera cubes separately. Also, the rolltop is closed using magnets instead of proper zippers. Honestly, if it's just an empty shell bag, there are much cheaper options available from other brands.

      yep, it's more of a camera cube compatible hiking pack with some cool features than a camera bag. I haven't been this disappointed in PD since the micro clutch...
      the missing side access makes limited sense for waterproofing
      I like all the features but not at retail price, the kickstarter price is "ok" for a lifetime guarantee outdoor pack but considering you can pick up a used deuter bag for 10 to 30 bucks that will last you a lifetime regardless it's just a bad sell...
      personally I might pick up the 2L sling just for the discounted cubes I can snag along with it😅

The bungee cord doesn't seem like it would be durable long term, but. hopefully PD has done some significant stress testing. This is not refined enough a design and is a surprise from this brand, who is normally really good about, well, design. I absolutely hate the dangling cords off the front; which look perfect to get snagged on some trees while hiking.

  • @1970rsc
    @1970rsc Месяц назад

    That long cord is something that’ll get tangled and knotted up within a week. You’ll end up cutting it off after it gets knotted up or stuck on branches on a trail. Really poor design element imo - you’d think a company like peak design would come up with a better solution to securing that little panel than 2 foot dangling cord.

    All I can think of is rain running down into and filling up that front compartment. Damn. And then it'll probably seep into the main compartment via a seam at the bottom. Really weird design choice. They should've put a drain at the bottom of the front compartment at the very least. Or had it attach above and over the top of the bag/rolltop rather than in front. Love the wider shoulder straps, but PD being PD they have to have something narrow and uncomfortable so they chose the grab handle this time. WHY? Initially liked it, not much anymore.
