I'm in Daytona Beach Florida, my neighbor has a mature tree that has wound up growing a few saplings in my yard. I transplanted them, two years ago. And I've got fruit on the two I transplanted. Makes me smile 😊 they are so delicious 😋
We have 2 varieties in our yard here in Spring Hill FL. We also get loads of baby trees growing like weeds around the yard. One kind has larger fruit and one smallish. Yummy fruit, love them! But in recent years the fruits are getting attacked by fruit fly worms inside. 😢 It's getting hard to find clean fruit.
My loquat that I grew from seed took me about 5 years to produce fruit here in zone 9b, it has such an amazing flavor, can't wait until my start producing next month.
I'm in Texas and Harvesting in April 29 2024! The Texas extreme freeze we had a couple years back caused my Loquat tree to stop producing fruit. This is first year since, I have fruit, I am so excited!! Much of the tree died and all the bark fell off but it hung in there!! Will cut it back once all fruit has been produced this season. Thanks for the guidance on best way to pick loquats from tree, have subscribed...
You are so cool man! I love your videos brother! I live outside of Savannah, GA. I purchased my first greenhouse 8x16 growing some delcious microgreens! Living a healthier lifestyle! 🌱🌱🌱🍇🍈🍉🍊🍋🍌🍍🥭🍎🍏🍐🍑🍒🫐🥝🍅🫒🥥🥑🍆🥔🥕🌽🌶🫑🥬🫑🥒🥦🧅🍄🥜🌰
Here in Central Florida Christmas Loquats are hardy. I make Loquat Jam peel , seed and take husk out . Use a 2:1 ratio fruit to sugar example 2 cups fruit 1 cup sugar. Loquats are high in pectin so no thickening agent needed. Cook loquats and sugar in a saucepan 40 mins. Last 10 minutes add a tsp lemon juice preservative.. store in fridge 2-3 weeks Amaretto liquor Use 1:1 ratio loquat (as is do not wash, or take husk off) seeds to vodka. Store 30 days dark and cool. After 30 days add 2 tbs sugar and 1 vanilla bean store 40 days. After 40 days use coffee filters and filter until clear. I use cheese cloth for the first 2 filtering then coffee filters. It normally takes 3-4 stages to get a clear amaretto tasting liquor.
They're all over the east coast as well. From Central Florida, where I live, up into the Carolina's and probably more than that. Even when clipping and fridging, they don't store long, but I lov'em!
Hey John! It was so cool to see you at the Heirloom Expo in Ventura the other day, I didnt want to bug you since you looked busy. Ive been checking out that Nama J2 and it looks amazing. The Omega horizontal we got from you way back is still going strong. Keep up the great work.
My loquats are oblong about 2". To eat I cut off the 'belly button', split in half, remove seeds and eat. I will freeze them that way also. Hurricane Ian did a great deal of damage to my biggest loquat - even imbedding a piece of shingle in the trunk. That loquat has finally died, but I have 2 offspring that are doing well & should fruit next year.

Soooo glad you've made shorter than 50 minute videos. I've followed for the better part of a decade or more and hoped one day you'd do so.
Yaaay, finally a new video.. NOoooo only 8 minutes :( we need a 12 hour video
The seeds are so beautiful, big & plump and a lovely mahogany color.
💚… I grew up in cali and enjoyed this fruit every summer. - If possible, I’d like to grow a Loquat here in Vegas.
My grandma has been growing that for years my childhood favorite
Such an underrated fruit. My grandparent had 2 trees at their home when I was a kid.
I never heard of peeling the skin. You learn something everyday!
Here in San Diego. I planted a seed, and the 6th year I had a fruited tree. 2024 is the 7th year and the tree is beautiful.

When you taking another trip to TD’s?

The leaf is good to compost after they fall .
If you freeze them, peel them and take the seeds out before.
They're not related to apples. They're part of the Prunus family with peaches, cherries, and almonds.
Are you in California or Arizona ? I’m trying to grow one in las cruces nm zone 8 - but may not get fruit, maybe too cold here in winter☹️
