I have just watched and it is already one of my favorites. It has great actors, great scenario, great costumes and above all, a great script. I've been married for almost 20 years and we've been falling in and out of love so many times during our marriage. Very good movie, I enjoyed it. I especially liked how the characters changed and matured in their relationship. Excellent acting by the 2 leads. Loved Mr. Waddington too.
Strange how a relationship can become your best teacher... Kitty came out a very different woman from the first version we are introduced to... and Walter learned how to love unconditionally... He was a great man... I didn't want him to die...😢... I guess his public ahd private missions were done and he had to sign off... A great movie❤

Spoiler Alert!!!!!!! The best decision she made was give up on the other man, at least she had little value for herself some women in that type of situation are hopeless. The second best decision she made was to not tell the guy that he is the real father after the passing of her husband. Legacy is everything. Also as a child it is better to believe that your father was a hero who died for a good cause than than to come to know that you are an illegitimate child with morally bankrupt parents. I hate the movie by the way. Don't make us love a woman who betrayed a decent guy and then outlived him. It would have been better if the guy lived a long, good life. 0/10. Typical Hollywood movie, always glamourising or excusing debauchery and bad behaviours.

Such a beautiful film. I do think the boy at the end looks more like Charles than Walter. Or maybe he just looks more like Kitty? I don't know what the intention was, or what the intention was in the novel, but I wish they had used an actor who looked more like Walter.
In the novel, it was clear that the baby was Charlie's and he gloated about it and forced himself on Kitty after she had undergone a profound as spiritual transformation. The steps in this transformation were agonizing but liberating and in the end triumphant.
I've never read the book but the child's mannerisms and the way he spoke and the way he looks all made me think of Walter, not Charlie. Personally, I think Kitty politely but curtly cut Charles off in the final scene because her experiences during the cholera pandemic beside her husband taught her what love actually is and she therefore now sees Charles Townsend for exactly what he is. Her comment to her son, "Nobody important darling", confirms this.

Wat a great movie but I could only imagine how can a husband live peaceful with a cheat wife and still get alone to make the relationship back I just wish the guy never dies in the end
This movie is very good, but the actual text of the book is incomparable. So much nuance and depth. This movie leaves out a key phrase. "The dog it was that died". If you miss this, you miss a key.
I was keen to see this film after reading the book and listening to the audiobook (yes, it's that good). Although I don't like loud dialogue, this is impossible to connect with as the sound quality is so low. A shame. There doesn't seem to be another film made of S. Maugham's most excellent story.

The character of Kitty is more intense while Walter's character is somewhat vengeful. Her repentance at the ending of the novel and when she asked forgiveness at his deathbed made me cry even worse. Its a good novel all the same.
I was cheated on, and she did it with a married guy , I guess that's what got me slightly interested when I saw a clip of this movie on tik tok, I just wanted to feel satisfaction in seeing Kitty hurt more , I don't have sympathy for cheaters and I'm glad that guy never left his wife for my ex either. I feel extreme hate and bitterness and I hope one day to never feel anything

You could just pay £2.49 and watch it on RUclips Movies. I did, and sound the photography are excellent. There is also a 1934 Garbo film of the book.
