- We had a fun and destructive time on the Slick Rock Trail with the Joaquin Jeepers! We ended up damaging one of our prototype portals that was built with narrow gears to test the limit of our design.

Thanks for showing the Wins and Losses of real world product testing!
First off, I love portals, but I will qualify that statement by saying they are really for specific applications.... Too many tradeoffs otherwise. I just ran that trail two weeks ago with a couple of pals.... I drove up the line you were attempting with my 67 year old Land Rover, on it's original axle assemblies (Upgraded to 1.400" 32 spline shafts front and rear, with Rzeppa style front joints that are physically larger than Dana 60 u-joints) I run 7.50-16 (31") bias ply "grave digger" tires at 7-9 PSI, depending on the trail. I have driven up every winch hill on Fordyce, driven straight up Rocker knocker on Moab's Prichett Canyon (no sideways walk needed) Just ran Coyote Canyon in Moab. Lots and lots of the classic trails in the Western states with no drive train breakage, beating it like it owes me money, and it's LS swapped with a manual trans. I'm an older guy and I feel something really unfortunate has happened to my beloved hobby.... Everybody is building huge, way over built for these trails..... It's a vicious cycle of oversize, overweight rigs that despite cromo "tons" and all the links, coilovers, ect... cannot take the kind of repeated whipping that my modest little antique can. I think these portals are awesome, but they need to be focused on what portals do best.... Snow wheeling and deep mud and marsh trails. Your gear profile has quite an undercut to each tooth, and that recess of the gear hub creates a weak spot under the tooth root. I would look at some alternative tooth geometry to get rid of that undercut. Keep up the good work and testing, and show off their potential in some Sierra snow !!!
straight cut gears to weak
Great to see you testing and not being scared to show not only the Pro's but also the Con's of a new product. Its all part of creating a final product and showing transparency.
Oh man, I was at that run. I missed my chance to see the Jeep in action
Bad ass product, definitely will be following. Portal gears broke? What is the reduction on the box? I am playing here with Volvo TGB portals.
The reduction is 1.25
