You leave your stuff in the room, run, hop on the metro and head out across the Yamuna river to East Delhi, to try a small but famous stall in Geeta colony, known as Kadhi Chawal.
I had learned about this small stall online from Foodie Saand, an Indian food vlogger's videos before coming to India, and I knew I had to try it. It's a bit far out from the city, about an hour an a half by metro plus rickshaw, but it was worth it.
I arrived shortly before 10am, and the locals told me that the shop would open by 10am. However, do to a festival, they opened about an hour later at 11am. I walked up and said hello to the people around the stall, and they were quite surprised to see a foreigner, and also a foreigner speaking Hindi. After talking a bit, I ordered a half plate of Kadhi Chawal (Curry Rice), which was listed to be 60 rupees ($0.74). I took my plate and in Delhi style, threw it on the table and stood to try it.
The food itself is incredible. The kadhi is super flavorful, creamy, and soaks into every nook and cranny of the rice. There are also super yummy pakode made from palak and basil. And the best part is no matter the customer, for 60 rupees, you're allowed to refill as much kadhi and pakoda as you want!
The owner also gave me a "small" bowl of rajma chawal to try, which is essentially kidney bean stew with rice. I actually preferred the rajma chawal to the kadhi chawal, believe it or not. It was really good.
At the end, I tried to pay but the owner wouldn't let me pay. We then got a picture together. He was a really nice guy.
If you come to Delhi you definitely gotta try this place. It's worth the journey.
Gabbar Kadhi Chawal
Address: A 432, Satanam Marg, Rajgarh, Colony Jheel Khurenja,
Geeta Colony, Delhi.
Timing: 10 AM to 6 PM
Special thanks to @FoodieSaand for his always detailed videos that helped me find this place.

Whoever taught you Hindi needs recognition. Also you deserve so much respect for learning Hindi fluently
I believe he has watched bollywood movies which helped him learn and that’s why he even tends to have a Indian accent in his Hindi from probably listening to all those movies!
Actually he also traveled to pakistan and pakistani people teach them Urdu
He speaks Urdu not Hindi

Love your channel! I am an American who is learning Hindi but based in the states. I have been to India a number of times but I'm so happy to see someone so much more advanced than me struggling with numbers like 42 as well 🤣🤣 I can count 1-10 and say 100 or 1000 but a number like 42 is hard, also things like पौने पांच are so hard for me to remember as well. I really enjoy your channel and love listening because I have an easier time understanding your Hindi so it helps me to learn. Thank you and जय हिन्द!
I m an Indian and worlds like Choatar phichatar adsath are like hell tough for me still don't know what is choatar 44 or 84 or 74 ahhhh crap
I think 42 is pronounced as Chauwalis, to break it up, it's Chauw - Aleese.
@@J.M.254nope that's 44 . 42 is pronounced as baay-aalees

Chris is just simply a humble man, thanks for the video my friend
Surely one of the most soft-spoken food vloggers out there. That is why people are always interested in talking to you and helping you.
That "bhaisaab" pronunciation was heart touching... ❤
Nothing comes close to the hospitality of Asian countries as a whole...very genuine people at heart ...
You are incredible, man! I don't think I've ever seen such a humble person interacting with our local vendors . Love the people and the lively ambience.
He is so humble and innocent, so good nature man.....
Your Hindi diction and intonations are so good - kudos! This video reminds me of my time living for a month in Delhi during an internship; after making some Delhiite friends I got to try some amazing street food. Such a great time in a wonderful city! Cheers from an Indo-Caribbean Canadian in Toronto 🇨🇦☺️!
Beautiful people taking care of visitors. Great ambassadors of India.
Wow bro those kadhi chawal look so good and humble owners
So good!
It's impossible to watch this and not smile. The smiles are infectious. This is the precursor to the video where he visits the business owner in his office.
What I love the most is how nicely all Indians around him are behaving. Delhi especially is quite notorious.
Chris, so impressed with your Hindi . The rickshaw waala was so friendly, but then they usually are . Was surprised the kadhi chawal owner did not charge you . That was wonderful of him . Feeling happy seeing these good people. I also saw the video where you cut your hair in Mumbai , and the barber’s companion charged you Rs. 100 just for subscribing . No one who watched your video will want to go near that man
Very nice to see how nice talking to u our Indians people...I am proud to be an indian...
The way you describe all this dishes - we have never thought that way eating whole life, just love it!!!❤
You gave them a start, when you spoke in Hindi. They loved you for this and so I do.

I've been binge watching your Chanel. I love India, the culture of people and the food. I found the numbers quite difficult to learn too. I found Hindi a bit tricky to learn so you are doing excellent and the people appreciate you for it.
Respect for your efforts and talent to speak hindi in such a great way❤❤Love you Chris❤❤😊
I've watched your other videos travelling India too... and I'm in awe how well you integrate into the culture and speak hindi like a local. It's mind boggling man. Keep it coming..

Your Hindi is so good that even Indians in different states don’t know speaking Hindi well.
That's really cool that you speak Hindi fluently, this was the first video of yours that I watched and in full too. 👍

Hats off to Chris for being so humble and adjusting!
Excellent Vlog by Chris. Kadhi Chawal is eaten as lunch so some people may start to sell around 11 ish. Frankly, I love the way you pronounce Kadhi Chawal. I am a Delhiite who is married to a foreigner for several years but my wife cannot eat a lot of north Indian food as she finds it quite spicy. So you have another crown to be able to not just eat but even appreciate the lovely Indian food. I can clearly see that you have made a lot of efforts to learn Hindi / Urdu as I feel that it's a difficult language to learn. Lastly, street food and local transport are two best ways in my opinion to explore any place. Good luck and looking forward to see some more vlogs!
Most westerners will not like North Indian food since not only do they find it extremely spicy subsuming the flavour of the veggies/ ingredients in the dish but also dangerously oily / greasy.
Kadhi chawal is so good, wish I knew about this place years ago when I was in Delhi.
Man your content is pure, and amazing. loved the vlog.

Hi chris, just amazed by your hindi fluency, u def give a run to many hindi speaking guys especially from south india, god bless u😊, stay safe stay blessed 🙏💐
It’s my dream to visit Delhi and other parts of India 🇮🇳. Love ❤️ and peace ☮️
if you are to eat street food In India only eat if it is piping hot. things to avoid: Non-bottled water and uncooked foods like salads, buffet breakfast in hotels that's not fresh cooked.
I suggest the same to everyone, even to most Indians. + Avoid the sprinkled masala if you can't digest spice well.
Non bottled water is sure number 1 to avoid. I always prefer drinking water at home. And being Indian, we r prepared fr what the food might bring to us. Street food is mostly taste oriented and for health we prefer food cooked by mom or wife. 😂
Naah my gut will still beat that shit
That's Common sense bro
U r really a very humble person yaar...just love u ❤️
