So i am looking to get those same shocks. I have the exact same set up with Rubicon express 3.5 lift springs in the front and moved my front springs to the rear with 2" by pucks all around. On iron rock website there full set for 5.5" of lift come with 8421 and 8371. The rear is obviously different part number then you got. Do you recommend whats in the kit or to order the ones you have?
The 8371 they recommend are 29.5" extended, 17" collapsed, with 12.5" of travel compared to your 8403 with 32" extended, 18.7" compressed, and 13.3" of travel
I would start out with IRO's recommended shocks, run those for a while, then decide if you need to upgrade. Most likely you'll be fine with what they send. These shocks are around $50 each if I remember correctly, so won't hit the wallet too hard if you want to go longer later.
@@ryan.vision thanks man! I did the price check and they are not to bad. Never heard of the brand before so I was a bit worried until I saw your vid on them.
+Photon Media I've never had stock shocks to compare, but I really like how these ride on the road. I'm running IRO springs front and rear now for the firmer spring rate because I don't run any sway bars. It's a comfortable ride but not all bouncy, soaks up the bumps and moves on but I wouldn't call it a firm or harsh ride at all. I love these shocks!
Dude great video just the information I was looking for for my Grand Cherokee...I got a 6.5 in rock arm lift these should be perfect....What is your exhaust system???that sounds like a beast? How loud are those tires rolling down the road?
The tires surprisingly aren't very loud at all even at 80 mph. My exhaust is cut off right after the cat with a turndown, no muffler. Check out www.projectzj.com for all the info and more videos
I know this is an old video but I would suggest with the urethane lift block in the rear that you weld in 1.75" or 2" diameter tube about 3" long to the stock spring pillars that are in the middle of the spring cushions. This will keep your springs from falling out. That will allow you to give yourself more limiting strap slack to flex further.
+All Out Throttle Great advice, that's what my buddy did to his. I ended up installing IRO's post extension kit and swapping out to taller springs without a spacer.
Hey Ryan, love the video even if its old. Im in the process of installing a 5.5 Rock link Long Arm FULL kit from IRO. My stock bumpstops are gone, will I be needing to replace those since I'm running the doetsch Tech shocks the same as you or am I good with the extenders that IRO gave me with the kit? Any input? Thanks!
I never had a problem without bump stops on the rear of the ZJ with the DT shocks, but honestly, it would be better to have bump stops between the body and axle just before the shock bottoms out. Any time you can avoid bottoming out or overextending the shock it's a good thing. If you break a shock on the trail it gets real bouncy and coils can start rolling down hills haha bump stops and limit straps are easy and important mods.
Hey what’s up ryan ...man nice details videos. I am on my project zj I am going for the same setup 5.5” kit whats the sizes of does coils ? I don’t see a 5.5” coil on irons rocks website they jump to a 7”. Thanks
This is an older video of when I was on Rubicon Express 3.5 springs with 2" spacers. I ended up using IRO coils and had a bit of a custom setup but it was around 7" in the end.
Hello friend, that brand of shock absorbers will be very hard on roads and wells up normal route? It's better than RANCHO 5000? They have automatic valve adjustment road ..?
Night Vision Uruguay I've had Rancho RS5000 and RS9000 on other vehicles but not this one. It rides great on and off road, not too firm, not too soft. Keep in mind the ride also greatly depends on your spring rate. I'm running Rubicon Express springs and they ride really nice. No complaints about the shocks, love them.
hmongwild The better thing to do is extend the upper spring post so things can droop down more and slide right back into place without falling out. You can buy exhaust pipe pieces at AutoZone that fit the spring post perfectly then cut to the correct length and screw or weld in place to existing post. IRO also sells extension kits and that's what I use now.
hey man. i am running IRO long arm front and rear and 35" mtr. my problem is that the tirs rub when turning offroad inside the wheel well. I have folded and trimmed as much as possible. how did you get enough room??
So I got a 3.5" lift for an amazing deal, but it didn't have shocks. I've been looking at these. It's my daily driver so how is the ride? And how have they held up over time?
I love these shocks, they've been great. Some might say they ride a bit firm on the road but I like the ride and they work really great off road. I just bought another set with more travel for my new suspension setup.
RYANVISION thank you for the fast response. This is likely to be my next purchase. So you said you got them from the IRO website, did they seem to be the right extension and compression length for what you have? If not I may pick a custom length from the doetsch site. I really appreciate the info, and I love your build
Highways are pretty smooth in my neck of the woods but they did great on 100+ mile journeys at 65-85 mph. Was very happy with these shocks on and off road. When I later redid the rear suspension, got the same brand, just longer for 15" travel.
gwallnut666 They only have 20 psi in them. They look bowed out on the top where no weight is on them because I'm on 7 inch wide rims with 12.50 tires. Been really happy with the wear on these tires.
Are they nitrogen?

How firm are these on road? is there a noticeable firmness compared to stock shocks?
+Photon Media I've never had stock shocks to compare, but I really like how these ride on the road. My LJR on 4in long arm from IRO rides like ass with doestech shocks. Can't decide if it's the higher spring rate or cheap shocks

How did it go.? I'm doing the same kit now on my WJ. I found Iron Rock very informed on my questions.

can u U bolt or strap down the very top of ur coil to the spacer so u dont have to use the limit strap. just woundering. but great setup.

3.5 backspacing on wheels helps a lot and I removed any plastic fender liner
Also make sure your track bars are adjusted correctly to the axles are centered under the Jeep

I use Doetsch on my Bronco and Tacoma. Good product at a good price!
Completely dialed in
Brian Stewart Yeah been working out, still love these shocks.
My doestechs ride like absolute shit on my LJR with the 4in lift from IRO
I loved how my ZJ and LJ rode with them but everyone has different preferences. Neither rig had sway bars, not sure how much that changed the ride.
you're running too much air in your tires you will wear the middle of the tire out shortening tire life.. happy wheeling
