I'll trade you...Middle of the Night, a song by Elley Duhé brought me here. This piano piece by Albeniz was infamously transcribed for guitar and renamed Leyenda and has been a staple of classical guitar repertoire since at least the beginning of Andres Segovia's stage career. I have played the classical guitar for the last 45 years and naturally I studied the transcription early in my career but through the years I have listened to recordings and watched countless players perform Asturias (Leyenda). The song by Elley Duhé (Middle of the Night) Is based on this piece and it is intentional. I just needed to hear the original piano version after hearing Duhé's 'Middle' instead of the tired guitar version, that's how I got here. I hope you enjoy the song if you should decide to listen, she's quite the vocalist and yes I will check out the film or the very least the soundtrack.
I would like to thank you all for your comments about Asturias!! Originaly for piano and transcribed for guitar, as a very inspired ‘flamenco’ piece, works differently but perfectly in both instruments. Then dear all... it’s all a question of personal taste! That’s music about! Anyway... we have already more than a million reprod.!!! Thank you all!
But your playing makes it sound natural for the piano. I’ve never enjoyed it before on the piano, and I’m a pianist. The variety of tone that you got was very beautiful and expressive. A stunning performance!
I LOVE this music piece though I admit I never realised it was originally composed for piano! I only knew the guitar version. This is powerful and the performance is excellent! Very happy to have found this!
This is so beautiful. I have just started studying guitar and I love Asturias. I will play it one day. It is wonderful to hear it on piano. Now that I have found your performance I will listen to it and to John Williams guitar when I need inspiration to practice :)!
It is possible to encapsulate a likewise feeling with this piece on piano. But then, in my opinion, it needs to be played slower, so you can take the time to really capture what this song is about. Nontheless, this man's playing is extraordinary. Certainly something I cannot reproduce at this moment :p
@@deutschesmaedchen i personally like the guitar arrangement more than the original since its much easier to encorporate the "liquidity" that Luiz mentioned. I dont like the piano version as much just because it sounds way to harsh and fast.
Love it! And although Albeniz wasn't a guitarist, he did wonders for the guitar repertoire. But the piano version is my first love. I really enjoyed how you built the resonance without losing clarity.
The emotion you've putted into your playing is wonderful! would love to hear more of you. I play classical guitar. I find your way of playing and presentation of the piece awesome. :-)

This is so utterly spectacular that of course I have subscribed to your channel. I very much hope there are many other examples of your playing to look forward to! I've just gone through many guitar performances of Asturias here on RUclips, though I knew it had been written for piano - so I thought I must hear the original piano version - and then I discovered this video. No wonder the audience cried out in appreciation at the end! And the piano does convey various remarkable ... effects which are not possible on the guitar. As people say nowadays, awesome. Because your performance literally IS awesome.
LOL My first time hearing this famous piece on guitar here on piano -- which I understand to be the original -- and it strikes me as exactly the same song, even working /better/ on guitar ... Impressive pianist! Nice.
Beautiful piece. I believe it was written on Piano but I have to agree with many comments that it sounds so much better on guitar. Piano just can't match the soul and warmth of a Classical Spanish guitar.
I have to disagree. Both versions bring something different to the table. The dynamic range of the piano is unbelievable and really adds to the expressive power of this piece. It's something you have to experience first hand because it won't translate well through a recording that has been compressed and uploaded on RUclips. The speakers you're listening on matters a lot. It's a lot easier to make the guitar sound good because of the frequency range the instrument is in. The power of the piano is completely lost on most small playback systems that people listen on these days.
This was originally written for piano, Isaac Albeniz never wrote for guitar but this piece was inspired by Andalusian flamenco of southern Spain so it is to no surprise that it was transposed to guitar. It was also titled "preludio" not Asturias because it does not correlate with the music of that region of Spain. A German printing company named Hoffmeister had retitled it Asturias after isaac passed and republished it as the fifth suite of "Suite Espanola op 47". The first 4 suites were written in honor of the Queen of Spain at the time, Isaac never got around to writing the other 4 that his printing company had advertised prior to its release so the German company took 4 existing pieces that Isaac wrote (one of which is asturias) and named them after the pieces that Isaacs publishing company had advertised 25 years prior. Sorry for spelling mistakes and correct me if I'm wrong on anything but this is just what I can remember off the top of the dome, you can check out Stanley Yates analysis of this piece
Asturias was written for Piano originally. Then transcribed to guitar. I'm a pianist and guitarist, but I love the sound of Piano more, especially with this piece (: They are both very different instruments though (:

I'd love to see a guitar-piano duet with this song... I wonder what kind of tricks the players could pull at different parts of the song to add new dynamics and feelings as it's played.
Such a great piece. Fantastic technique. I must admit though, John Williams playing this on the guitar gives me goosebumps all the time I listen to it. The guitar is the king and queen of all instruments and Andres Segovia is the god of guitar :)

It's hard because the sound of guitar playing is more "liquid" and I expeted the same dynamic. But it's great! Hard piece!
