It's a different type of artistry than a PURE vocalist like Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston, or Mariah Carey The problem for me is when your performance sucks and you lip synch... or the dancing is basic and you lip synch... that's pathetic.

To paraphrase she was asked about her thoughts on lip-syncing and she said for her specifically, she feels it would be kinda ridiculous (especially winning a SINGING competition), but for other artists who really dance and move around a lot, it’s different and hard to keep it up when using that much energy. Plus on a side note, I do recall Janet singing live quite a bit...

I think it was because they were supposed to sing live at their own show. I think it was okay for dancers like Janet and others to lip synch at awards shows but not on tour. I think that's why Milli Vanilli got it the worst because they weren't singing live at their own shows and then it came out they weren't even using their own vocals.
