Your local parts house will probably tell you that doorman part will not fit your 2009 escape, but ignore them and get it. The dealership will sell you the wrong part for sure. This fix worked perfectly and easily. Literally took 2 minutes to get the console apart, thanks to this video, and 3 minutes to make the repair and put it back together. Great job and thanks for posting.
An outstanding video. Watching this, I was able to get my Escape safely home where I could get it completely fixed,..again using your video. Thanks for posting this.
This video was a lifesaver. My wife drove a little out of town to drop a thing to a friend and missed her turn, she pulled into a driveway to do a u turn and when she shifted into reverse, it didn’t shift out of drive. She panicked and turned off the car and tried to restart it, obv won’t start in drive. Went there this morning and sure enough after a minute of taking apart the column, saw the bushing was bad. The only thing that didn’t work for me is I wasn’t able to pop off the bezel with PRNDL just a little to decouple the bulb, it just popped off breaking the light, but my car works now with a $16 part and 10 minutes of work, so I’ll take the broken light
Thanks for the video, this was my exact problem. 2009 ford escape here, I was at work heading out to lunch, car backed out of the parking spot and as soon as I was shifting it to D, something didn't feel right (shifter felt really light), car was stuck in N regardless the shifter position. Took the trims off the found the shifter cable was dropped and the plastic insert (bushing) fell apart.
Just drove my wifes 2008 mazda tribute from her work home by taking apart the console and just pulling and pushing the wire. Thanks for taking yours apart so I could see how!
Just used the Dorman part from this video on a 2010 Escape 3.0 Limited. Worked perfectly! Old bushing was crumbling into pieces. To install - once you get it on the cable - place it over the shifter pin and press it on using a screwdriver handle. As you press the handle against the new bushing you will feel it click onto the shifter pin and that’s how you know it is on. The whole repair took about 20 minutes. Thank you very much for this video - saved me a lot of time and money!
I replaced it but now my 2010 Ford escape won't shift back to park. Its says it is in park even though it's in reverse. So I have to put the parking brake on, open the hood, and push the shift in the parking position. Any ideas on what is going on?
Terrific how to video. The BEST thing you did was give the Dorman part number!!! We all know what it is to call the parts store and try to get what you need. Thanks again!
Thank you for posting this video. I purchased a 2010 escape for my daughter for Xmas. When I went to get it from its hiding spot, it wouldn't move. Found this video and fixed it. Thanks again.
Great instructions very clear and easy to follow. Especially the insights into how to remove the panels. Saved me lots of time and scratched panels. When it broke, I had visions of towing it, getting it fixed and a big bill!! But thanks to you for a $15 part and an hour of my time, I am back on the road. Thank you again... 😊
THANK YOU SIR, FROM TEXAS! Wife pulled out the driveway... and no gear engaged! Stuck in the road! Neighbor helped me push it back in the driveway. I watched your video, drove to oreillys bought part, came back, installed. All done in 2 hours. ON A SUNDAY! Wife is relieved! Thank you!
thank you sir , it really works on my 08 Ford escape, saved me $45 dollar and a 1 month shipping time with ford , and $225 labor at a mechanic shop . Can't wait to tell them at my local auto zone it works on a ford. :)
Thank you so much for this video! I have a 2009 Ford escape and this was the exact problem that I had today. Thanks to you and your video I was back on the road within two hours and probably saved hundreds of dollars! Great instructions… Even for a blonde female!! lol

Great video! Had a breakdown and was able to limp my way home. Spent a few hours trying to find some repair videos or even the right parts and I couldn't find anything until this video. I've ordered the part and hopefully it fits a 2008 Ford Escape. Thanks Chris!
super helpful!! he led me step by step through the process and saved me a bunch of time. also i would have struggle to figure out the exact part if he hadn’t provided it since auto stores said this wouldn’t fit my mazda.

Check the bushing under the hood. Check for any slack

Awesome video!! I was able to pick up the bushing at Autozone on the way home, and replaced it in less than an hour 👍.
Cool. Thank for watching
Damm this helped ALOT. I thought I was about to have to walk home from work😅. Appreciate it!!!
Glad I could help!

2010 ford escape v6. Did not fit bushing was to short. Did not extend past the gear housing.
I loved this video but unfortunately mine was connected… so the disconnect is on the transmission side. Thank you for a great video though.
This video saved me!! Thanks !!
Thanks for watching
😮 well instructions thanks
2010 mazda tribute, the 14073 is not fitting, any suggestions?
You can file or grind it a bit. It is a tight fit to begin with.
While the part went on, my shifter cable is still loose. Pretty sure i have to change the cable at this point right? Any thoughts?
Check the other end maybe it's loose or broken too
Thank you man
You're welcome!
Is the bushing suppose to be that loose? I just got one from O'Reilly and it just floats in that rod end.
Did you watch the entire video? Yea it is floating a bit. After you pop it together it gets a bit tighter.
@@chriskolar yeah it does get a little tighter after it's all put together. I just expected it to have a more snug fit.
So this Dorman 14073 part will fit a 2008 Ford Escape?
Yes
Let everyone know either way, thx
@@chriskolar Worked like a charm. The part fit my 2008 Ford Escape. Thanks a ton; your video saved me hundreds of dollars.
@Chris Kolar Didn't fit my 2008 Ford Escape Ltd 3.0, was too small
Hi I know your suv is an 09 tribute. This should fit an 09 escape xlt
Yes
Thank you
That is the dirtiest console I've seen in a while. Ugh!
That is not the correct bushing
That's for a GM
Wow a GM bushing on a ford
@chriskolar I bought the Dorman "Ford" bushing kit and it had a bushing that worked
@@billphil8235 what is the part number?
@@chriskolar dorman 14057
