As someone who bought an expensive vg+ record off discogs not long ago. When played, it had anunch of pops and a fairly noisy record. I appreciate the playing the record to ensure it's in good condition and is really appreciated!
I worked in an HMV when I was younger and hated it. I think working in an independent would be better though, and having your own shop would be better still.
Delighted to see him mentioning the record not being able to shake about in the packaging. Same with box sets. Put something in the box sets to stop the vinyl from moving around and getting all scratched up.
Great video Jake - you look like a natural in there! Would be difficult to leave after a days work with any money in my pocket with all that temptation around!
Excellent video. I have not been to Intense's satellite shop yet but have been to the other place on a number of occasions and always come away with some great stuff. Good work Jake.
First one I worked at was Quincy’s Records and Tapes between October 1998 and August 2003. I learned what to do and what not to do. I got to be around music but the kid I worked for was Adolf Hitler and he hated everything I liked and from him I grew sick and tired of Radiohead, Chris Isaak, Portishead and Lauryn Hill. Plus got tired of being chastised for being a fan of Rush and Triumph amongst other bands. Also he got his CDS from a thief who stole from stores and wore winter clothing in the summer to pull off his burglaries. I was pretty much doing the work and he paid me 💩 in the end. Then in August 2006 I was hired to work at Sounds Good Music for the now deceased Andy Royo and he was the definition of a great human being. He tried to get me into jam bands but it didn’t work but he allowed me to play Rush as loud and proud as I pleased plus let me promote the Metal and Hard Rock bands. I was co-GM and he laughed that I was doing my shifts like concerts. I would arrive a half hour early to do a soundcheck and then began the shift with the theme to 2001 or something and would kick into Judas Priest’s Screaming for Vengeance album or The Spirit of Radio and also played whatever I wanted and broke sales records that have yet to be topped. Drum solos was me straightening the LP and CD racks and putting out merchandise while live guitar solo spots (either Rik Emmett or Jimmy Page or Brian May) was me leaving the store to run the rubbish to the dumpster and retrieving the mail and coming back in just before the drums kicked back in. Some shifts I left the floor during the opera section of Bohemian Rhapsody to do a shirt change from the store shirt to a Red Sox and/or Patriots shirt. I would still do sales after closing and call it the encore sale and then would finish with an epic finale. Although Pink Floyd is my favorite band along with Rush, Queen and Genesis the owner retired Rush from being played after I amicably left in April 2008 for family reasons. Plus Genesis and related were also retired from the store playlist. When he died I was devastated.
Try not to slide the record out of the sleeve like that (@20.00). That's how you get surface scratches. That Genesis album tends to always has surface scratches on them due to that type of inner sleeve.
Worked behind the counter of a very large 2nd hand record store for 11yrs! Most days were pretty fun, always helped by a boozy lunch but when iTunes came along the slow decline was horrible. Oh and we used Ronsonol lighter fluid to clean records in a similar style to the video, ignore the pendants 😂
Sounds like a dream job to be honest! Though I'm not sure I'll be using lighter fluid to clean my records! Do you have any memorable stories from your time there?
Hi jake has poppa dave got the new Amy winehouse soundtrack to the back to black film lobed the video its a good change to what u normally film but I love all ur uploads thanks one love to u and poppa dave ❤
You should have asked for the Bulldog Breed LP 😂. Packing the 12" I would have shoved it in an inner sleeve rather than leave it lying against the card sleeve and poly sleeve. Record shops buy collections and end up with worthless rubbish but at least can save decent inner sleeves and reuse them for records that have tatty inners or no inners.
If they sell a lot of 2nd hand vinyls they ought to invest in a machine, not that expensive, get records cleaner and take less time. His prices are higher than online rates, but shops should charge 20-25% more to cover costs and the buyer is not paying postage. Good job for you as you like the pop/rock records that these types of stores tend to focus on.
Didn't much like the way the guy in the record shop opened and closed the record covers; that method puts a crease in the cover and is totally unnecessary. The best way is just to slide the record in and out; I noticed that you did it that way 👍
The only record store here is the Exchange, I definitely wouldn't want to work there. They are just a bunch of kids that don't know anything about music. They are only in it for the money 💰 💵
Complete waste of time cleaning vinyl like that, you need to invest in a wet and dry machine that actually sucks the dirt/dust off, instead of just pushing it into and around the grooves
@@Arthur.in.the.Fridge The only thing which is happening by “cleaning” it this way, is embedding residue within the grooves. It may add shine, but your stylus will be picking all of that up. For a shop to be cleaning records like this, is kind of whack. If you think that’s “utter bollocks” then I would hate to hear the audio quality of your vinyl, further still, allow a record to played through your stylus.
Please dont spray the cleaner directly onto the vinyl. Spray the cloth and then wipe it onto the record. Not every cleaner is the same and some can have Iso Alcohol in them and damage the record if applied directly.
Yeah - that looked like VinylClear, which is 5% alcohol IIRC. I use Kulloumi non alcohol, and an ultrasonic cleaner. If there's anything left after that, I may apply VinylClear...
I've worked in record stores for years and what I've gathered is that it can be a dream job or a nightmare depending on who's the owner
Yes! I came here to say the same.
Great service provided by Intense Records for cleaning every single record and skillful packing the orders. Looks like an amazing store!
Couldn't agree more!

I worked for years in record retail. For a real test, work on a Saturday near the Christmas holiday! ❤😊
That is awesome!
Working at a record shop is fun! I only wish it paid better lol. This video was entertaining!
Glad you enjoyed!
One cool thing about hits shop, is the shop number in the road is 33!
Playing a record.Radical.Always like it when the store stands the cover on the counter,so we might know what's playing!

Great to see a record shop in a shopping centre - Will defo pop in if down that way
You do something special . That´s fun for all followers and fans of your videos. king regards Ingo from germany
Thank you very much!

Great video, Jake. It was really insightful to see the day to day running of a successful record shop.
Excellent album pick at the end there. 👍
He picked out a good one for me :)
What a great video. Looks like a cracking record shop.
Thanks Steve!
That's a great record you got to take home recently got given the same one from my grandad out of his own collection top tier album.
Nice work and a big shout out to Intense Records . 😎👌Nice selection that Camel album
Wicked Video 👊🏻👊🏻
Great video Jake - you look like a natural in there! Would be difficult to leave after a days work with any money in my pocket with all that temptation around!
Thanks Jake! I'm happy to have got that album, I think I'd gladly work for just records for a few days a week!
Great vid
Dear Jake, Thank you for your work and your great video. Very interesting to see how people work in a record store. Thank you very much
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good work. Mirage is easily the best Camel album.
Mate of mine shoplifted from the shop he worked in. He picked it clean. That's how he made his money up😂😂
Excellent video. I have not been to Intense's satellite shop yet but have been to the other place on a number of occasions and always come away with some great stuff. Good work Jake.
Thanks Mark! Thanks for all your support

Great video! I really enjoyed it. That Asian press of that Atomic Rooster LP looks very nice :)
Thanks Nick! And yes, a very interesting pressing there

I think he may be talking about cleaning the jackets.
Love Your Channel, only great Videos 😉
Very interesting ❤ my perfect day !
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video,
You definitely look like you should be working in a record shop... Natural.
I would have gone for one of the records in the show case😉..

Ooft well jealous now!! Working in a record shop is my dream job just wish I had cash to start my own
This is the record shop in the shopping centre in Chelmsford.
Well done. It would have been great to see your pop cone in as a customer!!
Next time we should do that!

Could we have a link to their website please? I spotted a couple of records of interest. Thanks

My Dream Job!
Did you walk out with a free hoodie!!
I did!

Did you get to keep the hoodie too?
Hard business when you own a shop. Margins are small. You won't be getting rich from it. You can only do this when you really love what you're doing.
That's exactly it!
Well, getting paid for loving what you do...isn't that sort of being rich? To me it is!
@@BluDeadwaxOutpost Absolutely! People should do what makes them happy.
@@BluDeadwaxOutpost Running the place means you never get a day off though. It's intense! You need a lot of energy.
Surface marks not scratches. Two entirely different things!
Hi, good Video! Where is this Shop?

Put the LP in an inner sleeve…. Wow…. Can’t believe they didn’t use an inner sleeve…

No, it was only for a day unfortunately 😭

@Arthur.in.the.Fridge I respect this shop, but a decent cleaner with a vacuum is not crazy.
I'd imagine most days would be boring?
Most likely pricing, yes.
Never heard of Taylor Swift... Is he a hard rock/metal artist ?
Absolutely 😂
Dont agree with the vinyl outside the sleeve shipping method....sorry.
Please dont spray the cleaner directly onto the vinyl. Spray the cloth and then wipe it onto the record.

Atomic Rooster isnt super super good XD. its like other bands like Jerusalem, Samuel Prody, Josefus, November, etc etc hehehe
Converting and conscripting people to the Atomic Rooster movement everywhere you go I see :)
Of course, of course!
Did he really just put a naked record alongside the sleeve? Also, his cleaning technique is awful. Intense Records is kind of shoddy.
