  • In this video I work at troubleshooting a pit bike I bought starting with adjusting the valve tappet clearance.
    This method applies to all horizontal engines for small dirt bikes and atv's.
    Intake clearance should be .003
    Exhaust clearance should be .005
    For the best cheap feeler gauge : amzn.to/2UhgkQV

    Nice you actually showed the valves on camera. Nice to actually see it and know where they put the feeler gauge. It hard to tell what they're actually adjusting on a lot of other videos cause they dont ever put the camera on it. Thanks for the video.

    Hi, not sure if you'll see this in time but I'm actually following your video right this minute, adjusting the valves on an Apollo dirt bike. But I'm at the part where I'm doing the exhaust and when I opened it oil started pouring out, and it's actually still pouring out, there's a lot of it and its continuously pouring out in a very thin steady stream. Is that normal?
    Also Your video is very easy to follow, so thank you!!

    • @burnout_MEDIA
      @burnout_MEDIA  3 года назад +1

      Don’t worry! That’s normal on some of the Pitbike engines. The oil lubricates the top end and usually drains back in to the bottom end but on some models it will pool there. Make sure you check your oil level after you get it reassembled

    I have a thumpstar 140 pitbike, bought it used. air filter is clean,good spark, good fuel,its getting fuel & will kick first start and idle and rev fine so I know carb is okay but after it warms up and u ride it for 30 secs it bogs out and shuts off and won't start till its cool again. Acts as if its suffocating for air or something.. Usually takes a few mins to start back up.. Do u think the valves are getting too tight once its warmed up and causing the issue? Hope its a simple fix. Plan on tearing into it later

    • @burnout_MEDIA
      @burnout_MEDIA  4 года назад

      Are you getting enough fuel flowing into your carb? Maybe your fill plug is clogged and not let fuel in fast enough. It doesn’t sound like a valve issue to me.

    • @joeycarpeal
      @joeycarpeal 4 года назад +1

      @@burnout_MEDIA it was the fuel filter. Easy cheap fix. Partially melted lol

    Head gasket is actually a really easy fix on that motor. Should be straight forward the hardest part would be the timing I think

    You got spark ? Yep ... you got fuel? Yep ..... do you have compression??? That should have been the first thing you checked. And that skweeking sound ? Probably your crank bearings.. I can’t say for sure but I’d put money on it Long story short,, The guy that sold you the bike well he got you. It’s an easy rebuild or Change out. Either way it’s better than junking the bike. Good luck to you

    My kickstart is super hard to kick and it pushes back hard on a fail attempt, too much compression or bad valve timing? Thanks

      @@chinosaki8067 does it actually start? If it starts and runs ok then it’s probably not your ignition timing. What kind of bike?

      @@burnout_MEDIA it starts after a few kicks. Runs and idles smooth. I have the Apollo z20 max brand new 2 days old. Majority of the time it’s hard to kick at the top, I can put my full weight on the kickstart and it won’t go down. If I try again but with force it will move.
