Despite an increase in demand, these poor craftsmen work on starvation rations, making only 7 to 10 thousand dollars, US, per canoe. Working alone, a single crafstman is only capable of creating 15 or 20 of these masterpieces per year. With such measly wages, they are scarcely able to keep their children clothed in alpaca wool sweaters, let alone being able to afford full shares in the local CSA. few of these craftsmen have even tasted a venti macchiato before. So we are, like trying to raise awareness and gather signatures for a grassroots campaign to stop the exploitation of niche craftsmen by the western canoe industry.
