I use both my Topping NX5 and NX7 and I keep all my inputs Analog so I'm all kinds of good with the Topping NX7 as my daily driver amp paired with Sennheiser HD650 - balanced or Koss KPH40/Porta Pro or KPH30i. Agreed, this amp is insanely clean with the flattest response I've ever heard with a non-existent noise floor. Thanks for putting the news out about this great little amp.
Hey, do you think NX5 is able to drive HD650? I am trying to decide if it would be better to spend less and get the nx5 or spend a bit more and get the nx7
@@isktuna7077 NX7 all day. The NX5 is fine for anything with low impedance and has trouble at higher volume with high impedance headphones.

Hi there i have a question i am thinking about buying some DAC for my TV and Speakers, i was thinking... i know that Schiit Fulla 4 is a headphone DAC but will it work? It has Optical plug so basically i have to buy optical cable connect it, connect speaker and it will work. Or maybe should i use Modi 3 Dac which one will be better here? I will use Speakers 2.0 Setup.

I am not interested in this device, but I've had the Topping NX4 DSD and it has been my favorite audio device so far. They just released the Topping G5 which I'm interested in and looking for a review.
If you're not interested in Bluetooth, just use the NX4's DAC to feed the NX7. Probably will be an awesome match. I have NX4 as well, love It so far and currently waiting for the NX7 to arrive. Don't know how It sounds but measurements seem insane on this!

It's really that good, has a lot of power and the sound delivered is the best I've ever heard from these small Dac's with USB C. So... big recommendation from me !

i also like the look of this amp but i can't really think of a situation where i would need a standalone portable headphone amp.
You pair it with a Bluetooth portable like the qudelix 5k for planar iems or closed backs. They scale with current very effectively.

I'm looking for a portable amp, which has enough power to drive my aeon rt's. I tried the Hip Dac 2 which has not enough power. I'm considering to sell the Hip Dac and get something more powerfull instead. Can anybody tell me if it would work if i use the Hip Dac as a DAC and plug it in the NX 7 to boost the power?

haha that sucks I didn't know this existed as I had bought a different portable amp 5 days ago otherwise I might've seriously taken a look at this. Having bluetooth connectivity like the device I bought would've been nice but having an aux input along with a separate digital input is paramount to my use cases so this would've been a great candidate.

Not great you will bearly be able to get it to a listening volume...what you should ve looking for is an amplifier with at least 1 watt of output in 32owms

Cobalt is good for iems but not enough for headphones.

If I'm not mistaken, Topping released the NX4 as a DAC/AMP combo, following the older NX1s. How do these fair against the NX7?
NX1s has a relatively high output impedance, so it is not suitable for low impedance headphones, more than 50 ohm headphones are preferrable or 32 ohm at the lowest. It also doesn't have a neutral frequency response, it has either a bass cut or boost depending on the bass switch. Otherwise it is a fine affordable choice. NX4 was one of the best DAC-amps at its launch and still a good choice.
The NX1S is no match for the NX7. I have both.

In that same form factor, I have a device I bought from Drop last year call the XDuoo XD05 Plus. It's a mobile DAC & amp that can also be used with a bluetooth adapter that they also sell. May be worth checking out.
$100 more and less power output. Not hating, just stating the differences. I think it's a good choice. Bluetooth adapter makes it very nice. I'm going to wait to see if topping adds to this product line. I'm guessing a amp/dac combo is next along with an amp/dac/Bluetooth. If this has a little more power like the nx7, I'd be all over it. I still might now that I've seen the Bluetooth adapter, thanks for sharing
@@Tential1 Xduoo XD05 Balanced I think is really interesting, gets high praise. BUT is more pricey and they say it’s volume levels is slightly difficult with iems
@@Tential1 That's good info to know. I don't have anything to compare my XDuoo to, so your input is valuable to me. The only other thing I've used aside from the XDuoo, is a Hidac Beam 2 and they don't really have the same functionality.

I have a HD599 and LG V30 that I use exclusively for music listening do I need to upgrade to a DAC like this ?
HD599 is an efficient headphone, so you don't need a DAC. V30 has a powerful amp and good DAC built in so, that should be good enough.
If you ever upgrade to planars, like Hifiman Sundara, then you need a DAC + Amp.

This is interesting. I'd been looking for an amp to use with my LG G6 + OPPO PM3, no DAC needed since the phone has one. I can currently max the volume and it just gets to listenable levels for me. When I was riding the bus to work every day, pre-COVID and before we went WFH, I probably would have bought this instantly. I just found an old and forgotten FiiO E11 in a drawer, so I'll probably save the money for now and use that for the rare times I see the outside world anymore. I haven't actually plugged it in to see how it sounds yet (never used it when I bought it so many years ago) though so we'll see. Great production and review as always, Joshua.

I purchased one through your link, hopefully you get a cut! Seems like a great option for a portable amp. I have a few devices I plan on trying it with, including THX Onyx and game console (XSX/PS5) controllers. I am looking for a simple way to use my headphones, with a mic. What is the purpose of this product? Mobile phones have mostly abandoned audio output, and require external DACs; dedicated music players are getting much better power output. In 2022, what is the purpose of a mobile amplifier with no DAC?
The only thing I can think of is to add power to the required dongle dacs or just the headphone output of a pc. But the confusion for me is how balanced output ports affect this, since most dongle dacs that I've seen aren't balanced.

I have a Sony DAP. Very good quality. Its sounds better when used with a mobile amp like this amp. A mobile amp will improve your mobile phone sound quality and output eg also used for hard to drive iem's and headphones with higher impedances. It's a must have for me. If you give it a try you will hear the audio quality difference.
@@keithb5612 But you can't use it with a phone because it doesn't have a built-in in dac. A wasted opportunity in my opinion. In current form it only benefits DAP users. Even then newer daps are getting more powerful so you don't really need an external Amp anyway.

@@jaroslavfricek7772 i personally use it with Shanling M3X. It’s a DAP with dual ESS Sabre DACs. Works pretty well for me with Sundara and other IEMs. You can also look for Lotoo Paw S1/S2for portable use (these are Dac/Amps, you might end up skipping NX7 for them in the first place). Mentioning these since I was seriously considering them before I chose NX7 (since I have Shanling M3X to serve as DAC).

You can use the e1da dongle. So many options. Personally, I will pair with the qudelix for more power hungry headphones. and because I want to add Bluetooth
Check out the Topping NX4 DSD! That is their DAC/Amp in that form factor
It's much older. This is on a different level for amp headroom... Everyone knows of the nx4.

I sold my A30 Pro as it made music sound completely boring compared to my Jotunheim 2 or tube amps. I think THX is better than Topping for clean affordable solid state.

someone asked Sennheiser in twitter and their answer seems to suggest they are the exact same headphone but comes with different cables in the box and it is painted a bit different

Topping is just about the only signal chain component manufacturer, other than SMSL, who I know you can trust implicitly to be honest about their numbers. Amir has reviewed a lot of Topping products before they hit the market, and they always spoke for themselves.

In practice the DAC is usually not the limiting factor. If you need low noise for IEMs or high power for large headphones, the amp is the limit. E1DA 9038D is a high-quality dongle USB DAC, unfortunately currently unavailable.
You can add your own dac.... It's called a stack. For me, I'll just use qudelix. It let's you choose your setup...
I'm sure there will be a dac/amp combo coming eventually. But then you need to decide which features and how big it will be, etc. This is perfect for me I can add a Bluetooth dongle and the amp power is on par with desktop setups. I want to ask a rep what's upcoming first though.
