@@HuJack007 Yea it's natural. Unfortunate for people in its path, but it is natural. Something as simple as sunlight through a piece of glass from a broken bottle can ignite a forest fire. If there is enough fuel they generate so much heat they make their own wind. Wildfire is something you don't want to be anywhere near.
Hmmmm melted cars, melted steel, but perfectly intact pine trees right next to the melted vehicles? Pine trees are insanely flammable. Sorry, but this fire wasn’t natural. Another Maui situation.

Pine trees are not insanely flammable as seen in this video. The bottom of the trees are all burned but they've adapted with stronger bark that protects against these fires.

This is like the black forest fire or Marshall Fire, or Waldo Canyon Fire in Colorado. Or the Camp fire in Paradise, CA. It's just tragic.

There were pools of aluminum melted into weird shapes . The trees there are not good for lumber mills because they are infested with bark beetles and can`t be used for much. The trees have been allowed to be over thick because when the lightning does start a fire they fight the fire aggressively to protect a nearby town. Photos of the area taken 100 years ago show the area to be less overgrown.

Even if it were, fire behavior doesn't change just because someone used a fancy tool to ignite it. Besides, I don't know why they would use a multi million or billion dollar tool to ignite a fire when a 2 cent match will do the same.

I live in Midtown Ruidoso and it all feels sub real. I looked outside my window at night and saw the flames turn the sky black and red......I know most people left but I feel safe where I am and so the horses, deer, birds and animals around me. The second I see them run for the hills I will be doing the same.
I wonder if we will ever see the four wild herds of horses again?

That's what it was like.
Although we did have warning, that fire spread extremely fast.
It ate up 14,000 Acres in one day. It's at around 24000 Akers right now and we did get some rain the last couple days so it helped a little bit - also made a mess :(

Singing sailors, Indians, construction workers, leather bikers and other extravagant menzes reside there. And it was fun to stay there with the village people.

Pine trees are actually highly fire resistant as well as 70% water. Have you ever tried to burn a fresh cut stick or log? California's ecosystems have relied on fire for millennia, just not to the extent we see today, due to poor forest management. Even many of the burnt trees, if not removed, will regrow with time.

We have had no rain in a long time until 2 days ago.
So everything gets so dry there. Extremely dry.
And you have to remember, we live in New Mexico and we do not have the humidity as the Florida Pines do

Hopefully, this fire wasn't set by the U.S. Forest Service like the 2022 fire, the Hermit's Peak/Black Fire, the largest in New Mexico history, and the Cerro Grande fire that burned down much of the town of Los Alamos in 2000.
Those fires were the result of controlled burns done without proper evaluation of the threat they could pose because of weather conditions that could and did change.
I have always said that controlled burns should be conducted in the spring because of the possibility of strong winds blowing up suddenly.
I'm sure I'm not alone thinking that!!
I've lived thru tbis. Our entire mountain town and everything I owned as a single mom, burned to the ground. As a 100% Volunteer Firefighter, I had no time to evacuate my own house. I got my neighbors to evacuate my Son and our Cat off the mountain with them. I get that same numb, pit of the stomach feeling of disbelief, everytime I see anyone else go thru it. I am so sorry for all of you.

Yea actually the Village wasn't left in ruins. The fire was mostly on the west and north side of town. Most of the damage was in unincorporated areas with vacation homes and cabins.
Why at 0:38 i see a car with no wheels burned to a crisp whatsoever and trees in the back ground with green leaves in them still.

There are maps online from the government that show the heated areas from space.
It started in the Mescalero reservation that touches Upper Canyon
It moved its way Northeast and destroyed a lot of area in Brady Canyon
It destroyed all of Cedar Creek (where my cabin was) and started to move towards the Albertsons on Meechum.
Then there was a glorious wind that pushed it North so it did not hit Albertsons but came close.
It did however continue North and destroyed businesses on Meacham Street further north
It continued towards Alto
I think it is still moving North but at this point in time the businesses that remained, are safe
It also destroyed a whole bunch of homes in Alpine Village which starts around Cedar Creek/ Musketball, and continues North to where it meets Meechum

Blue spruce are not pine trees. They are spruce trees. But seriously most of the trees in the forests around Ruidoso are ponderosa pine which are naturally resistant to fire. It is extremely hot fires that are a threat to pine trees however.
These are overstocked forests. Thinning would make fire control more likely. Why oh why do people want to build in standing timber in a fire-prone area? These kinds of disasters are preventable with proper forest management and building codes that address the hazards of building in forests. This 100% did not have to happen.
Also preventable when people don't start them ;)

Heavy pockets of rain, thunder storms...? likely lightning started fires. They need more of those dounpours, flash flooding of creeks is better than forest fires I imagine. No wonder insurance is expensive and hard to get! That landscape looks beautiful, I can see why people like living there. I bet cost of rental housing is a lot less than places like Seattle, San Francisco and LA.
