Good instructions, here! My 2009 spectra5 sx broke the timing belt, while driving. It bent 4 intake valves. It is best to remember that the intake camshaft is driven by the exhaust camshaft via a short chain. With over 300,000 miles on the car, the chain was stretched. This causes undue wear to the camshaft journal, nearest to the chain.
You got 300,000 mi out of it without even changing it once? I believe that car it's supposed to be every 90k. I'm at 355,000 and I've changed it twice. Regular sx
yeah sometimes in the morning too I'm going to start with the fuel regulator hopefully that fixes the problem this car was sitting for a while . the strange part is that is got no lights or codes going off . thanks for the info man.
My 2006 Kia Spectra 2.0L 4cyl shakes when I at a Stop Light or Stop Sign or when I'm waiting at the drive thru restaurant. Usually it happens when I have the AC on at the same time. Also it shakes when in reverse or drive while the AC is on. Also when I press the gas pedal it accelerates slow and then it goes normal. Same when I go uphill. Again all them happen when I have the AC on at the same time. Do you think these steps will help fix all those? I need the AC on when I drive because it's Damn Hot in Texas!

Actually it’s a issue with the fuel system and a evap value. I have a 07 does the same thing and stalls out. Best thing is don’t fill your car up all the way when you get gas. Honestly that’s what the dealership said 😂 I fill up 3 quarter the way no issues.
How many miles where on this car when you did the repair. Own an 09 with same engine i believe. Just trying to keep up with all the issues that can arise with these cars.
Hey Chad, I just got my nephew's 2005 Spectra5 to do his brakes. It's sat idle for over a year and when I started it the check engine light was on. I scanned it and got 2 codes: P0030 (O2 sensor) and P0507 (Idle control system fault). I'm wondering if one cause might be throwing these 2 codes? It starts and idles smoothly at just under 1000 rpm. What's your opinion?
+spikeman dan thanks! As far as why that keeps blowing, I am not 100% sure. It could be possible that the fuel pump is faulty or you could have a power wife for the fuel pump grounding out. It is really hard to say without being there
Hey Chad ! I just bought an 08 Spectra5. I've been driving it for about 2 weeks, and today it stalled out at a red light. My idle seems to worsen with the AC running. could this be the IAC valve ? +tim wilson hey Tim, thanks for the subscribe! A few things I would check first is air filter, spark plugs/coils, and a compression check. You would need to good for the correct psi for your car/engine. Are you throwing any check engine lights?
Chad Williams no check engine light. If I nursed the throttle, it wouldn't stall. when I got home I sat in the car, turning the AC on and off, and watched the tachometer fluctuate.
Chad Williams I checked the air filter, it was reasonably clean, except for some debris from like a tree/plant, and what appeared to be a piece of dried up gum sitting on top. I bought the car from a friend, and it had been sitting for a while.

I'm a good DIY guy, but my knowledge is limited, and I rely on learning as I go. this morning the engine light actually came on. I just wanted to make a comment about the IAC when it comes to the 06 Kia Spectra and models like it. The IAC even when clean can act like its fixed but actually act up again days later. For a lot of them you will most likely have to replace it with a new one. Also keep your receipt info when you buy one because a few of them have been faulty right out of the box. If you are actually able to fix it by cleaning it consider yourself lucky. The IAC I'm beginning to think is a faulty design part for this vehicle. This is a common occurrence with many Kia Spectra's...
In addition to rough idling, does it also act up when accelerating at low speeds and trying to speed up when going uphill? I'm trying to determine whether or not my car's having transmission problems (which sounds very expensive) or if it could be a simple problem like you point out with the dirty air control. (Transmission fluid was at an okay level, felt and looked okay, but reeked a bit.) Is there an easy way to tell if it's simpler than transmission issues? I don't want to risk getting ripped off if I take it into a shop and would appreciate any pointers.

Otherwise that ny car runs great when I'm driving and my foot is on the gas pedal. I've had no check engine light and the problem has been intermittent. Sometimes it might do it once a day sometimes none but the last couple of days ithas been getting noticeably worse.. am I on the right track with starting at the IAC? Thanks
I would check the compression first, to verify that all cylinders have similar amount of compression. While you are doing that check, you can look at all your spark plugs or even replace them if you like at the same time. Compression and spark is where I would start.

+felipe lopez Hey, I never had those issues. I had those rough idle issues that I showed in the video. You may want to check for vacuum leaks and maybe your intake manifold gasket.
I have a 2004 kia optima it seems to rev at 2000 rpm after u press the gas any ideas on how to stop it from getting stuck open? Car ise to idel at around 800-1000 rpm

what valve is that? I have a rough idle and i have a new alternator, new therm, new radiator, did a throttle clean, tps replacement, solenoid valve replacement.....still idles VERY HIGH, sometimes it's perfect though too....HELP!

Mine didn't tear, so I reused it. Use your best judgement to whether if you think it is good or not.

Instead of using Carb Cleaner, Can I use Mass Air Low Sensor Cleaner as a substitute?
I did a quick google search, it said "Yes, you can use a MAF cleaner on a throttle body, but you cannot use carb cleaner on a MAF". So go for it! :)

+angela barber I was thinking the same thing, the catalytic converter sounds like the issue. You can do voltage tests on the sensors, pre and post.

This is most likely bad oil rings on the pistons. Can't really fix this issue without an engine rebuild. Sorry about that

I think the rebuild is a good idea too. I have bought those engine from car-part.com for around $200 too. You may just want to look there too
