My instructor used a lot of your RUclips videos in my auto classes in college. I’m glade your still making videos. I have a 2003 Toyota Camry V6 and my cars giving me problems with air flow. I replaced the MAF sensor, but I’m realizing the IAC valve is dirty and now I need to go back under the hood and clean everything. Thanks for the videos and spending your time to help others. ❤
Thank you! Very well done video. Especially the explanation at the beginning about how the throttle body and IAC work and the types of issues that result when they get dirty or fail. Very well done!!!
Wow, that was easy. My Delica L400 v6 is identical. It didn't even look that dirty, but totally fixed a warm start over rev then super low dip idle/stall and now she's back to normal and she purrs like a kitten again on acceleration!
I'm glad that you do videos on vehicles other than 4 cylinders. I get sick of all these RUclips mechanics who have 90% of their videos on the easy to work on 4 cylinder engines
This video was awesome. Not sure if this is my problem yet, as I need to pull this open and take a look, but you were straight to the point and showed everything really well. Definitely earned a sub from me! Thanks again!
Yeah deff I have seen alot of mechanical video ..but from you sir I have learned alot ..and that's golden info for me..thanks dude !! Best videos hands down
Great video guy. I’m have some problems with my idle on my 1992 Dodge Ram50 pickup and it just might be the ISC valve. I’ll remove it and clean it. Thanks for a great informative video.
That really makes no sense at all. Should I just throw out my electronically controlled throttle body because it's dirty? No I cleaned it and car runs good as new.
step by step explanation how to clean a throttle body.. hope next time around show us how to clean a electronically controlled throttle body.. or kindly share to me how to open the gate/butterfly the best way by not damaging the calibration of the electronic control system .thanks . stay safe . God Bless
RatchetsAnd Wrenches Yes, I did move the throttle plate to clean it, as I wasn't aware of the potential problem you mentioned. But I haven't experienced any problems with the throttle since then.
sam one can halp me plees I have mitsubishi lancer 2004 model and I need halp from a good mechanic advice my Wats ap naber is 00923016642456 plees contect me
Mahalo from Hawaii!!!! Very useful I will put it to use and hope for the best right now I am having problems with low idle as I come to a stop light with my air conditioning on it is a 2008 Toyota RAV4
carbon build up reduces the amount of air leaking around the throttle blade requiring the idle air control valve to open farther.. this limits the amount of idle control ability the idle air control valve now has... so it might not be able to open far enough to maintain idle speed at all conditions.. normal idle air control is 20 to 50 steps back with the engine warmed up. cold start would be 80 to 90 steps back.. these usually have about 115 steps max..
Do yourself a favour and subscribe to his channel if are watching his videos for the first time. His videos are always to the point and easy to follow that are explained in a logical and diagnostic manner.
Very helpful video, thanks. I did it without ever having done any repairs on any car. However, did not work for me. Also, had accidentally left the hose on the left side disconnected. Only noticed it after I drove around the block to check how the car was running. Any ideas if that has caused any damage?
Would be impressed if u have an answer to this one. Tata Indica SLi 2008 1400 Petrol. After a Clutch replacement that have nothing to do with the fuel injection system, I have the Following symptoms: Engine start first time but idle to High then after 10seconds go down to normal. When driving the engine runs perfect until you stop. The idle surge three times between 1000 and 2000 rpm then a last time to 3000, sometimes 3500 rpm then slowly goes down to normal and stay there. If I ref it up again it comes down to normal, but a little slow but not surging. But just drive 10 meters and same thing happens. I replace the Idle sensor with a new one, making it ever worse
Turn the key but don't turn engine over put a weight or something to hold gas pedal down and it will open the throttle body plate up for you and then you can clean freely
Thanks. It would have been useful to see more clearly how much the IAC is supposed to actuate in order to determine when the IAC needs to be replaced (vs. just cleaned).
thnx - very helpul. my '90 nissan d21 idles smoothly but way too fast. Can't find manual or any info on google/youtube. I believe k24e engine. However it's so old, i'm sure it can't be that hard to adjust if i had some info. Can u point me to some resources? there's 1 adjust screw on this gizmo with a REALLY ridiculously stiff spring that cams and stops the throttle from turning too far. And 1 adjust screw on the carb side next firewall.
First thing to locate. Air filter box, but what if you dont have a air filter box anymore and the filter is located behind the front bumper now and so you have to take your entire front end apart to see the filter without taking it out of the vehicle
Hi can you just what to do for rough idle issue on freelander 1 ? Does it has mass air flow sensor ? Or manifold air pressure ? Or anything else needs to be clean along with throttle body ?
Hey Ratchets and Wrenches thanks for all of your help. Your videos are awesome. I have a 93 civic that's been idle surging occasionally. I removed the throttle body to check it out. I also found some small cracks on three different vacuum hoses that all connect to the throttle body. The plunger on the idle air control valve does not seal all the way when resting. Could this mess with an idle surge or could it just be a leaky vacuum hose? The IAC is a pretty expensive piece so I'm hoping it isn't the problem.
also, it usually idles fine on a cold start. Also, when you press the brake pedal or move the steering wheel while idling it can cause it to start surging a little bit. And both of those use vacuum.
Have 94 ram 1500 5.2l with 5speed manual trans and in second gear starting from dead stop it wants to some what kind stall with a bit of a dieseling affect. cleaned throttle body and replaced IAC
just want to know that when the car is NOT idling and it is running over 4 rpm around 120 kilometers per hour speed so what would be the reading of IAC valve on OBD2? plz note that car is having Cable less electronic throttle body. my car shows IAC readings fluctuating during drive too, is it normal ? thanks. in advance.
My car acceralate on its own at the start when you go to D and after first few stops, it wants to acceralete on its own on stops. After awhile of driving, it will only acceralerate to certain high rpm while at stop.
I just disconnected my throttle body and cleaned it without realizing the IAC was attached to it, I also disconnected the coolant lines going into the TB. They are currently plugged, but am I ok to drain the system of coolant while the TB is still removed from the car? Any issues to come when I need to bleed the system? Thanks.
Just wondering, I tried to follow this video and removed the air filter and cover and inlet and on the other end was the turbo not the throttle body. Where is the throttle body on a 2002 Mitsubishi Pajero 3.2L Turbo Diesel ?
Gasket from my iac got sucked into my throttle body, my truck is choking for air now I have a rough idle and black smoke from my exhaust and I have no idea where to check for for the clog the vehicle is a 96 nissian hardbody

Well done Sir. Your ability to convey pertinent information in a simple way is top notch and gives others confidence to tackle these tasks.
Best explanation I’ve heard. Been having idling issues and plan on cleaning the IAC valve but had no clue what it’s purpose was fully
Thank you! Very well done video. Especially the explanation at the beginning about how the throttle body and IAC work and the types of issues that result when they get dirty or fail. Very well done!!!
best explanation I've seen of how the throttle body and IAC work from one of my favorite youtube guys, thanks for this!
+neppy5 np, thanks for your comment. I appreciate it. cheers
Most definitely 👍
P
All those good things everybody else says *plus* you are easy to listen to, with a clear and pleasant voice. Well done!
Glad you like the video, thanks for commenting.
Fantastic job! I really appreciate how-to videos that get right to the point. No wasted time explaining it. Very informative and helpful. A+!
I appreciate that you show how to take it apart. So many car goofs on RUclips totally skip that step, as if every viewer is an expert
Wow, that was easy. My Delica L400 v6 is identical. It didn't even look that dirty, but totally fixed a warm start over rev then super low dip idle/stall and now she's back to normal and she purrs like a kitten again on acceleration!

You detailed everything exactly the way it's supposed to be detailed fantastic presentation

Really good explanation! I appreciate a steady camera and good angles. Thanks!
You are great at explaining how things work and have helped me so much so thank you🙂
You are a very good teacher, thanks for all your great videos
Noticeable difference after cleaning my car, thank you!
Thank you for actually explaining what the iac does made me totally understand what to look for and clean thanks so much
Excellent video. No fluff. Great job.
awesome informative and to the point. Great job i intend on watching every one of the videos you mentioned dealing with idle
Thank you. you saved me a lot of trouble. My truck is almost identical to the one you worked on.
This guy's videos never disappoint
Great video guy. I’m have some problems with my idle on my 1992 Dodge Ram50 pickup and it just might be the ISC valve. I’ll remove it and clean it. Thanks for a great informative video.
Thanks again Ratches and Wrenches for sharing your knowledge, Cool Deal!
I appreciate the extra information such as; Don't manually clean your Throttle valve if it is controlled electronically.
That really makes no sense at all. Should I just throw out my electronically controlled throttle body because it's dirty? No I cleaned it and car runs good as new.
You do a great job on your videos. Very helpful.
Excellent description and explanation. Very useful content thanks very much
Made it simple to understand, regardless of what vehicle. Well done.. Thank you !
Thanks for posting! I like your videos cuz I am learning actually what these parts do and how they work.
step by step explanation how to clean a throttle body.. hope next time around show us how to clean a electronically controlled throttle body.. or kindly share to me how to open the gate/butterfly the best way by not damaging the calibration of the electronic control system .thanks . stay safe . God Bless
Nice video. I'll try this before pulling the throttle body and cleaning it more thoroughly!
Thank you again. I miss you 🥺
Thanks , I may have found out what is wrong with my Aunt's Kia !! Great explanation of the Idle Air Control...
+Ol James np, hope it solves your issue with the Kia. If it doesn't watch the next video I am doing on Vacuum leaks, that might do the trick. Cheers
Thanks, I surely will...
Thanks for the tip about electronic throttles. I've cleaned the electronic throttle plate on my '06 Accord without a problem.
+anti0918 good to hear, did you move the throttle plate?
RatchetsAnd Wrenches Yes, I did move the throttle plate to clean it, as I wasn't aware of the potential problem you mentioned. But I haven't experienced any problems with the throttle since then.
I cant wait to clean my throttle body tomorrow
Outstanding video...very helpful...especially the hints!
Thanks For Taking Me To Class I needed This info !
Nicely Done :)

Great video and the process well explained. Thanks..
very informative, information, thanks, ima watch it again ,cause I'm kida slow ,good job brother.

Really good, as usual. Of course, my car has an electronic throttle control.
Turn the key but don't turn engine over put a weight or something to hold gas pedal down and it will open the throttle body plate up for you and then you can clean freely
and can clean pvc valve too. it helps mine alot.
Awesome I am cleaning mine today!!!
Great video thanks solved my problem
thank you for the video, can you please mention the location of idle control valve in toyota corolla 2010 model? I need to clean it..
IAC is normally in a closed position, fully blocking the passage. Good to know. I've got a truck that won't stay running.
Thanks. It would have been useful to see more clearly how much the IAC is supposed to actuate in order to determine when the IAC needs to be replaced (vs. just cleaned).

Very helpful. Appreciate the vid!

Would it be ok just to use a micro fiber towel to clean the throttle body and IAC valve? Of course using the spray as well
Great video
Hi can you just what to do for rough idle issue on freelander 1 ? Does it has mass air flow sensor ? Or manifold air pressure ? Or anything else needs to be clean along with throttle body ?
Would this cause a light knocking pinging only at idle? Goes away when revved or driving

+ Sandinista Ridriguez np thanks for watching.
Does that iac depress any movement in it mine seems too be stuck out and no movement inward... is it common does it need power to depress thanks
if you have electronic TB i was told by a pro ((that i trust )) remove it from car b4 cleaning
Very lnformative thanks
Have 94 ram 1500 5.2l with 5speed manual trans and in second gear starting from dead stop it wants to some what kind stall with a bit of a dieseling affect. cleaned throttle body and replaced IAC

+TheMakyato np, thanks for watching.
Very helpful Thank you. How to re-calibrate it?
reset = ignition switch on..slowly press gas pedal down~slowly release+then turn ignition switch back to off position.
Thanks.. Awesome video
