If you love this song, there is a great chance you will like ALL of their songs. I'd say start at the beginning and work through their discography. Watch the growth of the greatest band of our generation.
Don't disregard this comment^^^ Seeing their evolution is a part of the journey. Do their whole catalogue front to back and the ToolArmy will turn out in force.
Tool really is fantastic. Most of their pieces are nice and long, as you noticed with this one. I recommend pulling up the lyrics every time when reacting to Tool.
Welcome to the best rabbit hole to trip yourself into lol. Will definitely be looking for your next TOOL reaction! Since you're unfamiliar with the band I'd suggest either Sober, 46 & 2, or Lateralus to listen to next.
Welcome!! So so good to see another one born 🥰 I’m sure you’ll get tonnes of recommendations and suggestions, but as a general rule, avoid the music videos, they are INCREDIBLE but a major distraction on a first listen, and always have the lyrics. Maynard (singer) purposely has vocals down in the mix as it’s viewed as another instrument equal to the bass, guitar and drums. Everyone in this band shines. You will not be disappointed. 🌀🤘🏻
I agree stay away from the videos when you record a reaction and look at the lyrics. I liked how you pulled the lyrics up on this and was surprised, then you broke down what he was saying. Good example of car accidents and people rubber necking.
Welcome to the band that will change the way you think. Every damn composition is exquisite in its delivery. All four members are masters of their craft. The Vocalist Maynard writes all the lyrics. Danny the percussionist is one of the best drummers alive. Justin ( bass) Adam (guitar) also considered among top players. Let me be among the first to say spiral out brother.
Tool...the band that changed not only the way i listen to music but also to a degree how i think ...The smartest, most talented band i have ever heard and i cant imagine a day without listening and learning ...enjoyed your reaction ...you asked a lot of good questions and the tool army will be in force if you wish to really go down this vast rabbit hole.......peace
The Tool Army is here bro and there are few things in life we enjoy more than watching people become new Tool fans. Welcome to the rabbit hole ! Spiral Out !!!
Go down that Tool rabbit hole brother! You won’t regret it! We will be right there with you on the journey. Always have lyrics pulled up with Tool Tool- The Pot Next!
Glad you decided to pull up the lyrics right away rather than wait. They are so important in reacting to Tool. They are musically amazing, and you were clearly enjoying it, but the lyrics add a whole other element. Enjoy the ride.
Lots of Wows. haha. awesome. Lateralus, Pneuma(studio, then drum version), The Pot, Aenima. Hooker with a Penis. (last one not AS popular, but I thought I'd throw that song title in because it's funny. - still a great song too).
Thanks haha I am loving Tool. Ive done a few songs now on my channel and I keep on loving it. Im moving through the discovery slowly every week! Glad you enjoyed cos I sure did!
Yep about how humans love to watch tragedy and death. I used to work for the coroner and when I walked beyond the yellow tape it was awesome. I thought of this song every time. This is my favorite Tool song because I relate to it so much. Pay attention to the bass and wear head phones.
If you are going to dive into Tool, I would strongly recommend starting from the first EP and going through the entire discography. That'll give you new favourite song every time you listen to new song (well .. there are couple fillers/transitions and then there is Disgustipated... xD) and you'll also hear the evolution of this great band from 1992 (Opiate EP) to 2019 (Fear Inoculum) and then cap it off with the 30th Anniversary Version of the song "opiate". :) And it's only one EP and five albums. Easy! :D And me and the Tool Army will be beside you the whole way to see your adventure.
You had better hop down that rabbit hole! Listen with lyrics and I’m willing to bet TooL will become one of your favorite bands EVER! Top Tier musically and lyrically..👍🏼👌🏼
You are in for a journey... keep spiraling. The entire discography is insanely good. Been here for Tool since the start back in the early 90s. So good.
I've always pictured this song as (mostly) being narrated by The Joker to a captured Robin while Batman fights his way to their location...although there is a portion where I feel it could be Batman narrating. This part in particular I can hear Mark Hamill's "Joker" voice saying this but I picture Heath Ledger's portrayal of The Joker in how it's delivered: "I need to watch things die...From a good safe distance. Vicariously, I live while the whole world dies. You all feel the same, so Why can't we just admit it?" Also he says, "Neither the Brave nor Bold are writers of stories told." What he means is that brave and bold people generally DIE being brave and bold so others have to tell their stories, but Batman was part of a comic book series (and also much later an animated series) called The Brave and the Bold where Batman would team up with other heroes, so my Joker/Batman concept has some merit within the lyrics themselves, lol!
I don't feel anyone is more in tune with the world we live in than MJK & TOOL. If you really want to see how they feel listen to "Aenema". Welcome to the journey. 🤘🏼
I'm leaving another comment bcuz I think my last one was zapped. And you weren't getting much love for your next favorite Tool song. So here you go: The Pot 46 & 2 Sober 7empest Eulogy The Grudge Schism Parabol/Parabola (can't do one w/out the other. Like Gin & Juice.)
IMHO, this is the paradox of humanity...we MUST revel in either the tragedy or comedy of others or else we will go insane with the random absurdity that is physics and quantum physics...no matter how much we try to understand, we find that the universe wasn't made for us...we are contradictions, a cog in the machine with the ability to realize that it's a cog...what then? Do we do our duty? Or rebel against the machine? Such is the question of humanity and sentience...
A very geeky tool super fan once said you don't "listen" to tool you experience tool. And for all the flack and memes he got for saying that... He is right.
TOOL's music is meant to be used by the listener as a, "tool," however they see fit, to enact change or progression in their life. There are only a couple of songs that the band members have ever given insight as to the song's meaning. Even then it's never been, "this song means ...," Certainly never a lyric by lyric breakdown. It's only ever been thematic influences or events that inspired. Interestingly, the drummer and two guitarists write the music all the way to its final form, THEN the vocalist, Maynard James Keenan, writes the lyrics and fits them to the instrumentation. If you're going to dive into the TOOL rabbit hole, give up the idea of the typical 3 minute song. Patience is required because their songs build to a worth the wait crescendo. All four band members are world class musicians. They are masters of odd time signatures, time signature "change ups," or "transitions." There isn't a bad song in their catalog as long as you are able to appreciate musicianship and how utterly unique their sound is. They have no contemporary analogs, so you can't expect the typical pop 3min wam, bam, radio formula. They'll rock your fukn face off if you let them just do their thing. Spiral out, keep going
I'll watch every Tool song you do. Please, if you could, stick to the lyric videos and no live stuff. (They're great live but it's all bootleg trash or VHS recordings from the 90's) Take it easy🤘
If you think this is good, then oh boy. Buckle your ass. It is commonly said that Tool does not have a bad song, and i wholeheartedly agree with that. You can literally listen to their albums, back to back, one after another, and never be disappointed. Word of advice going forward with them. Try to stay away from music videos on your first listen, as they are unfortunately not very coherent and can distract from the song. Lyrics are highly encouraged but not exactly necessary for a first listen. Also, you pausing and rewinding is perfectly fine to do, so don't worry about any naysayers that tell you not to pause. Enjoy the song how you want to. Thats what music is for.
Greatest band ever! TOOL does not have a bad song. More TOOL 🔧🌀

Right in Two will take you on a journey as will Descending, The Grudge, 46&2……………..
So many songs... Just gotta dive in haha
Humans insatiable appetite for violence and tragedy
Maynard hates being called a lead vocalist. He considers himself just another instrument in the band
I like that a lot. Less ego and more about the music
