According to the town of Groby's own website, the White Queen never lived at Groby Old Hall. Furthermore, The Grey family never inhabited the archaeology excavated in this episode. It was the de Ferrers family that inhabited the old manor house, not the Greys. The only thing the Greys (who only inherited the property through marriage) had to do with the manor house is that they destroyed it, then built the brick building that's barely even mentioned. This is all confirmed by simply looking at the family tree shown a few times in this episode, and comparing it with the dates attributed to the ruins by the professional archaeologists. The historical information provided by the so-called "expert" (the historical fiction author), is flat-out incorrect. She rewrote history (for which she is notorious) in order to promote her upcoming fiction novel featuring the White Queen, and no one on the production team bothered to confirm her made-up research. This (along with similar issues in the final years) is why Mick Aston left Time Team.

Curious. Any idea why some folk in the UK are not allowed to view this episode? I have shared it and some are reporting there is a country block flagging it.
BBC has the exclusive license for UK broadcasting. It's standard contract withem. They are a national monopoly that's state sanctioned and sponsored after all.
You wanna broadcast on BBC you agree to them owning all rights in the uk or they deny you permission. Simple as that. something about being the enforcers of the official secrets act and what not
Stuart wins John on the most hair left after 20 years of time team. Is it due to just Stuarts' walking around looking at lumps and bumps and John's use of radiology? Just a thought.
It's also why you are banded layers of stone or brick in towers. Those are called leveling courses and the leveling is to ensure even distribution of down and outward forces.
if you look closely at many medieval structures you will also see holes in those leveling courses. That's where the scaffolding was put in as the structure rose and they were markers for how plumb they were as they rose.
Tim taylor, the creator and owner of the content has had a decade to pursue intellectual property rights against these channels. That he has chosen not to negates his rights. That's how IP laws work worldwide. use them or lose them.
The inclusion of Philippa Gregory as some sort of expert really makes me second guess every bit of information I've ever learned from one of these documentaries.
I figure they bring her in just to bump ratings and otherwise have the sense to ignore her and let the archaeology speak for itself. Because there is no way everyone on that site didn't nearly have their eyes roll out of their heads when she showed up xD
@@kittenclaws5775 That's what I figure too, and I assume they had real researchers giving her lines/making sure she wasn't spewing her usual nonsense. Just annoying then to pretend she's a real researcher with any credit.
@@beemily13 Absolutely agreed. The worst thing is that having read her, she has CLEARLY done the research, she just *chooses* to lie through her teeth. Like, hey, I love Fan Fic, too, but I don't insist on teaching it as canon.
Agreed. Everything she says in this episode is flat-out wrong. According to the Town of Groby's own website, the White Queen never even lived at Groby Old Hall, but rather at Bradgate. If you look closely at the de Ferrers family tree and compare it with the dates the archaeologists attribute to the ruins, you'll find that the only thing the Greys had to do with the archaeology featured in this episode is that they destroyed it and built the brick building that is barely even mentioned at all. This should have been an episode about the de Ferrers dynasty living at Groby, but because a charlatan historical fiction writer was trying to sell a book about a woman who was queen for less than a fortnight, she literally rewrote history, and no one bothered to check its accuracy. This is a prime example of why Mick Aston left the show.
Uh no they belong to the British public. They are tangible relics of national importance. That's why the position of county archaeologist exists and each have extensive staffs. Such as Helen geake at the time this was recorded. Or Cardenas who was an employee of the national version. There's very strict laws governing that. Finds belong to the nation not the property owners.
History Hits does NOT have "hundreds" of recorded stuff about history. They have plenty of recorded live-streams but I would prefer to see DOCUMENTARIES about history instead of this character talking for 1.5 to 2.5 hours ABOUT the history with "experts". I don't want to see CONCLUSIONS about history, I can draw those for myself about history based on facts. History Hits TV is for those who want and need their history info pre-digested. I've had more than enough of pre-digested history via high school and university. I don't need it as an adult.
Not as long as cousins remain. Those of us via John of Gaunt and Katherine Swinford retain that familial heritage. I am descended through that line (along with other Plantagenet lines). My last name may not be Grey ... but one of my ancestors on my dad's side was named Robert Grey and lived in Massachusetts in Colonial times.
If I remember correctly, some of the diggers are volunteers from local schools, universities and communities to help on the digs. They do emphasize that on some of the episodes.
A lot of the guys on this show need a makeover. When you have like only 6% of your hair left, it looks better to just keep it cut short. Go for the Michael Jordan look...
Nothing wrong with the "ruggedly handsome" look. And not everyone is caught up in valuing fashion over genuineness. I, for one, welcome the crude and raw. lol

first aired 20 March 2011
Few of the Grey family lines are in USA, but the Grey’s of American change the “e” in England to “a” in America ( American Colonial’s). There are Grey descendants that are GSMD with direct genealogy.
Is that Baldrick?
He’s also an amateur archeologist. If I remember correctly, he and Mick Aston were instrumental in creating the original show.
Yes
The precursor show was called time signs check it out
I love Phill!11
20:54 song? in the background
Why is this not available to watch in the uk dispite it being a british video and filmed in the uk?
And that someone is the British broadcasting Corp ;)
It would seem that I am a descendent of this Grey family .
Is this the same Grey family that John Grey from Outlander belongs to?
So ... so are we saying ...
Richard III, Duke of Gloucester, King of England slept here?
🥰☺️🙂
Almost certainly did so more than once yes.
Where and how did all this excavated dirt come from ?
Two stones is 28 pounds.
What is that blue coat Tony is wearing? With a bird in a circle logo. Same coat but red in their recent episode about the castle upon castle
Canada Goose, i think
Curious. Any idea why some folk in the UK are not allowed to view this episode? I have shared it and some are reporting there is a country block flagging it.
Different licensing, I think some of the episodes are owned by different companies
@@kiwibird8441 Thank you. Yes, we are finding some discrepancies involving BBC and some others that could be causing the blocks. Sad, really.
@Howie Felterbush Thank you. Yes, that was my suggestion and worked in most cases.
History 🏰
There's Raksha
Why are there figures of S on the brick tower?
Those are used to strengthen weak sections of a wall.
anna zaman I answered you question on the public reply, sorry. Those Ss are braces to strengthen weak areas of a wall.
Basically repair sections distributing the weight. Same principle as an arch just in a flat vertical face rather than for a horizontal wall.
Massive crazy hair in this episode. 😳
I like Time Team, but now the stolen content. Time Team finally has their own channel.
Tim taylor, the creator and owner of the content has had a decade to pursue intellectual property rights against these channels. That he has chosen not to negates his rights. That's how IP laws work worldwide. use them or lose them.
Also I just googled and timelines an official licensee of the episodes so scratch the above lol
This same episode is posted with the title "House Of The White Queen"
I have a stupid question. After they have gotten done digging, do they rebury it?
Yes they do
Karen Deda I was also wondering that question.
Yes that's why you always see them neatly cutting and squares.
Y’all NEED to make a documentary about Thor. He so popular in the marvel universe, a lot of people would want to see that one
❤️❤️
I hope the landowner gets to keep the finds. They belong with the property
Why does Time Team allocate only 3 days per dig, even on really impressive sites?
7
History Hits does NOT have "hundreds" of recorded stuff about history. They have plenty of recorded live-streams but I would prefer to see DOCUMENTARIES about history instead of this character talking for 1.5 to 2.5 hours ABOUT the history with "experts". I don't want to see CONCLUSIONS about history, I can draw those for myself about history based on facts. History Hits TV is for those who want and need their history info pre-digested. I've had more than enough of pre-digested history via high school and university. I don't need it as an adult.
I take it the Grey's are extinct?
Not as long as cousins remain. Those of us via John of Gaunt and Katherine Swinford retain that familial heritage. I am descended through that line (along with other Plantagenet lines). My last name may not be Grey ... but one of my ancestors on my dad's side was named Robert Grey and lived in Massachusetts in Colonial times.
Not at all. The line never died out, just changed names alot.
The Greys are in my family tree, by way of the Wingfields.
Nnnoooo Tiw
Team
So you think this is a group of serious diggers? One wereing Sandals and another with all her fingers with rings!! Ya Diggers or STARS?
If I remember correctly, some of the diggers are volunteers from local schools, universities and communities to help on the digs. They do emphasize that on some of the episodes.
Rich and powerful stay that way through he centuries, while stomping on the "little People". I'm not impressed by your ancient royalty.
A lot of the guys on this show need a makeover. When you have like only 6% of your hair left, it looks better to just keep it cut short. Go for the Michael Jordan look...
Be happy that Phil isn't wearing his cut-offs!
Nothing wrong with the "ruggedly handsome" look. And not everyone is caught up in valuing fashion over genuineness. I, for one, welcome the crude and raw. lol
Trump could do with a hair transplant 20 years ago wouldn't be Trump tho would it.
@devildog1982z "Eye of the beholder...." By whose petty standards are we all supposed to abide by? Arbitrarily speaking, btw.
This channel block its videos in Germany! A strange understanding of freedom of information! Or you are too much lying so no one can criticize?.
