Am I the only one who wishes they could rebuild these original buildings, as they were then, today? People need solid history that can't be brushed under the rug. Not to mention the architecture back then had so much more love and style to it.
There's another series of documentaries on this channel that focus on an archaeological project to build a medieval castle using only the tools available at the time (while following modern safety precautions of course.) Might be something you'd be interested in!
Those final graphics depicting the buildings over time from close-up perspective to wider area perspective were awesome! And the watercolor paintings were gorgeous! Thanks for sharing this!
Actually, the root word for hospital, hostel and hotel is the same. They WERE hospitals (hospitality) but they would have accommodations for travellers and pilgrims. Over time, hospitals, hostels and hotels became separated. Hospitals were run by religious, for whom it was a vocation.
I’m impressed how decent the church interior looks. For a church that survived aerial bombing during WWII, the columns and arches don’t appear reconstructed.
I always had such a crush on Phil! :-) I lived in the UK for more than 10 years and they should have run into him accidentally on purpose but my loss! :-)
It's what we Brits call a 'West Country' accent. Phil grew up in a small village called Wexcombe (in the county of Wiltshire) - about 20 mile NE of Stonehenge. I grew up in the neighbouring county - Dorset.
But he needs those nails to play the guitar! Nails like that are a dead giveaway if you want to know if somebody plays fingerpicking or classical guitar. Moderately long and carefully shaped nails on the right hand to pluck the strings and very short ones on the left hand to keep them from interfering with the fretting.
I always thought the nails were to help him dig through the dirt! Considering he does so much manual work with his hands his nails are in good nick. @@tessjuel
"1212 to 1540" said so casually, as if just last century. I love it. I love the Queen because she represents all this wonderful British History - the most fascinating I have come across. Here in the erstwhile Colony of South Africa, one sees one's roots in Great Britain, where our Ancestors came from.
I just marathoned most of these shows. They actually found Darouche’s(sorry for spelling) body in a earlier episode. I remember the long haired red head guy making a big deal about it. Interesting they didn’t mention that.
@@justinrennie9995 Mick had suffered from depression most of his life. In the last couple years of the show they brought in other people, whilst letting the main characters go~like Helen. She was replaced with a fashion model, who, in all fairness, had studied archeology. But Mick saw that as taking away from the show. Alex (from the different "farm" series, with Ruth and Peter) joined but he couldn't save it. Don't forget this was Mick and Tony's dream show. They'd been friends for years and had apparently discussed this show for a decade. So Mick saw the show as "his" and Tony's. When they started switching it up, without consult, Mick quit the show. Plus his health was failing. His asthma was almost uncontrollable. And he was suffering, according to interviews with those who knew him. So~his loss of his dreams for Time Team plus his failing health lead to his suicide. He was an atheist and often said he'd die on his own terms. And, true to his word, he did. I'm sorry you didn't know. And Tony, Mick and Phil WERE Time Team. I thought they made a brilliant team.
Occasionally geophys IS done earlier, because they are starting and they say "The geophys shows..." So they've clearly done some. However all these guys had "day jobs". Lol. So they worked during the week and that's why the show is over the weekend.
So I am gracious of the spirit of the way of truth, that I like this show because it visits ancestral homes, even those names found in our Genealogy. I am fortunate to have a brilliant wife who traced the nearly untraceable truth far back to the beginning.
He came much later. I loved the series they all did. I think my favourite one was the Victorian farm. I think that was the first? Then the one about the rail lines. Oh heck. They were all great!

Surprised the roof wasn't replaced on the church. But where's the cemetery? Funny that folks making maps in the UK got paid no matter how far off they were. Never seems that reality matches the maps/documents. Come on ..they would have lost height only if both legs were shorter

I just found out Mick passed away in 2013 and im crushed. He's my favorite.

Those pictures drawn to aid our imagination of what the buildings would have looked like are very helpful.
