  • Welcome back to another drone video. This is the second range test we are doing and we've chosen a different area to fly the drone. We want to see if picking an area would make a difference in range. Enjoy!

    Drone stopped flying because of airport restriction, which u flew 11,000 feet away , if u would have lowered your altitude to 196 feet like it asked you to …. You would have been able to fly further , since u came to the restricted area it’s like hitting a wall drone just stopes , I live by airport and my does the same think

    The mod is totally worth it, and probably increases its value if you ever had to resell it in the future.
    Going up to 400ft helped a lot, but yeah I'd looked for another spot that doesn't have the restrictions from an airport or anything. Can try Google maps then plot out the distance away from restricted zones.

      Yes the mod does work very well. We had fun modifying it even though we voided the warranty but it was for the content purposes. Yes the restrictions in certain areas is a bothersome at times.

    I'd really like to see a head to head comparison of a stock RC controller and then a modded one. Numbers are fine and all, but I don't get the sense of what percentage range improvement.
    eliminate variables and restrictions and do a head-to-head. THAT would be valuable. I guess I could do it myself, but I don't really have an area that would allow me that much clear space...
    I have antenna kit already, just don't know whether there's any benefit.

  • @roguethink
    @roguethink Год назад +4

    which antennas?

  • @UberGeekFarmer
    @UberGeekFarmer 10 месяцев назад +1

    So your line of site looking down hill. Try flat area with trees you can fly behind. Other items, did you retune the antenna's if not you have fairly large loss compared to a properly matched antenna and cable to the PCB. Any form of vegatation will degrade significantly your signal strength. Do you the coax type of the original antenna cable? you need to match impedance in order to fully take advantage of your external antenna. Also you need the exact frequency so you can shorten or lengthen your antenna to center of the DJI band. Find a local ham. Little things add up.

    So it also looks like your drone stopped because of an airspace restriction. Interesting that you choose to fly with the wind rather than starting out against the wind. I would think that I would prefer a tailwind on the way back to give it a little push. Great job on reaching 2 miles! Looks like it could have gone farther signal wise, maybe not battery. Cheers
    Addendum: Not sure if your mod is really worth the effort, I flew a range check this past week and flew 11919 Feet from the start location with the stock antennas. I am sure I could have forced it to go further and will try another location that will be fairly flat farm land to see what the range can be extended to with the standard battery and stock antennas.

  • @WhiteDwarfVR4
    @WhiteDwarfVR4 Год назад

    Try the air2s mod. LOL
    Recently I set my personal best distance record at 24,305 ft., 4.6 miles or 7.4 km. It was a very still day and I took off against what little wind there was. That way I could ride the wind on the way back. Turned around at 50% battery, and after getting it to the home point at 13%, mucking around for a minute or so fighting with the obstacle avoidance, I switched it into Sport mode and hand landed it at 11% I believe 5 Mi is possible in the right conditions. Uploaded the screen recording, check it out if you're so inclined.
    I realize this range test is about the mini three and the new DJI RC in particular. I just think it's a shame that you can't shake full advantage of the 45 minute (advertised) flight time with the bigger batteries.

  • @thomashardy9994
    @thomashardy9994 Год назад +1

    Sorry about the 6 month late post , and I’m sure you’ve already noticed this about that area, but I live in one of those warning areas (an airport is nearby).
    Your flight may have taken you really close to the glide path of airplanes approaching the airport. DJI basically locks that airspace into a geo zone and you may be able to unlock it. Since it was not unlocked the aircraft appears to hit a wall and hovered.
    What you can do is find that zone on your controller map- usually in blue - and avoid it.
    Another interesting warning is that automatic return to home may be through a geo zone- of course the drone just stops or worse lands because it cannot proceed through it unless it is unlocked. Looks like you did have enough signal to go much farther so a successful increase in range.

    • @thomashardy9994
      @thomashardy9994 Год назад

      Looks like the warning was an altitude limit zone. Only 196 feet. Probably would have lost signal that low. Check your map and avoid that direction next flight.

    Yet another good video. Another issue is, you have to keep you RC directly pointed in the direction of the back of your drone. You drone was slanted a bit that’s why you lost reception. Also, if you don’t have height restriction, you can boost up the signal by raising the altitude as well.

    • @roiss_official4712
      @roiss_official4712  Год назад +1

      Yes I noticed that too. We didn't realize that area had some restrictions. I thought it was all good.

  • @crustys6900
    @crustys6900 Год назад +2

    You would have gotten a couple thousand more feet at least if you weren't forced to stop due to the authorization area you flew into. A lot of people who are doing range tests also have the fly more kit with the larger battery which makes a significant difference, especially in high winds. The increased capacity, mixed with the increased weight allows for better efficiency in the wind. The heavier of the drone the better it does.

    In "real life" on a very windy day (>20mph wind) we got a bit more than 4KM (13,124 feet) range - the limitation was battery capacity, the "Low Battery RTH" brought it back, with ~15% battery left (bad for the battery to go lower, ~20% is usually the lowest one should take the battery to avoid shortening the battery life or damaging the battery).
    So you guys are at a great spot with a drone that costs about USD $3000 less, be happy! LOL
