    Poki isn't on a tireless grind, but does manage to put in a game of two a day which is probably healthy when supplemented with puzzles. It's fun to watch her improvement. She has won her last 3 games , two of them with 75% and 95% accuracy. In between was 20% but mostly because it lasted for 70 moves and she dirty flagged her opponent.

      She was bad though. Very bad. In the game she won on time, instead of capturing the rook with her king, she ran away. Ok, might have missed that rook was not protected. In the next few moves she gave check with her bishop, and she had a choice to take two rooks. One rook was pinned, and one is not. If she takes the pinned rook, opponent will recapture the bishop. Other rook was completely free to take, and the other rook would still be pinned after. But she took the pinned rook. A huge mistake. In the next few moves, instead of pushing the pawn that was obviously protected by her rook, she ran with her king to protect the pawn first, that was already protected by the rook. That was the game vs Zidde2248

    • @oOPPHOo
      @oOPPHOo 3 года назад

      @@milannesic5718 The Zidde game was awful, but some times opponents take you down to their level. I do remember the situation with the pinned rook where I thought she spotted a nice fork on the rook and king when she made the move 38.Be6+, but she either missed it or forgot about it when Zidde blocked with another rook (this one protected by the king) and she simply saw a winning exchange and took it. She also missed some hanging queens and rooks despite being good on time but, when you're new, you can be prone to miss when the big scary queen right next to your king actually isn't defended. Espcially when your oppenent already has two queens and you game plan is simply take advantage of the opponent getting low on time and hiding behind your pawns. Some times you don't wanna give your opponent the chance to think on your turn and it actually paid off for her here.
      Again, these are the sort of things she needs to improve on to win pogchamps, but that game was one of her worst and an outlier in so many ways. I'm more focused on her two other games vs pablo and botboy...
      In the mean time I've discovered a new game vs serhuns... To be kind to poki, I won't look on that one for too long ^^;

    Its funny how one of the major disagreements was about putting the rooks in the semiopen files. This is a typical high level strategy issue to solve and there's no straightforward rule. Most common semiopen files in normal openings are d-e-f and c-d-e, so often we have 3 files and only 2 rooks. Only high positional understanding and experience can make this stuff easy, otherwise is really painful and more often than not one regrets, like "I should've put the *other* rook here".

    @Alex & Andrea
    17:44 You talked about white moving Pawn A4 Or moving the queen, but all I see is Bishop A4 to pin the black queen. You didn't talk about this possibility so I suppose its a really bad move. I just want some tips about why its not a good move. The white bishop is not protecting anything, so why not using it to attack? If black move Pawn B5 as answer, its a free pawn...

    I think she could have pushed the pawn rather than taking the rook, then takenh5 with queen to check, force the bishop to defend, check again on f7 take f5 check, and then capture the rook with the queen

    • @johnyoung4814
      @johnyoung4814 Год назад

      Yes. I am with you too. Push to e8 and get a Queen. Even if Black RxR, then QxN on c6 and you are left with a Queen rather than a Rook to continue.
      Say if NxR after the pawn promotion to Queen on e8, then Qg8 protected by Bishop, forcing the king to go to either h6 or g6 and then Qe6 forcing Kh7 return. Then take QxR on c8 before smashing the before mentioned pawn structure. Hence taking both Knight and Rook and the before mentioned pawn structure. Another line is after g8 P=Q NxRd8, Qxh5+ Bh6 (only can block), Qe8 and then whatever Black does either move the knight anywhere at Nf7 or Ne6 or Nc6 or Nb7 then QxRc8, if Knight is on f7 or e6, then BxNf7 or BxNe6, then to prolong the eventual Checkmate black does some Black Bishop movements and so long as King does not get away via h5 to a pawn and king trap and that your queen is not on a black square, then checkmate is eventual. Best to move your bishop away from f7 to either e8 or e6 and your queen rotates between the white squares, avoiding three repetition sequence, take the black bishop if it is away from king to free up more squares to checkmate.

    Hmm... Honestly, Poki is getting stronger. She can probably adopt me in a chess game 10 to 1. xD
    But I don't think she has a shot against a lot of the contenders in Pogchamps 3, mainly due to her lack of seeing hanging pieces of her opponents (under time pressure in this case) and having trouble visualizing number of attackers and defenders.
    Most of her opponents are rated 1000 and above.
    I really do hope I'm wrong on this one. I like cheering for underdogs.

      @@Mentaljedi True... But the thing is, I think it's realistic to not expect "a Hafu in Poki". It's one of the life lessons I had to learn the hard way.
      Don't expect to find myself from someone else. Same applies to everyone. It's either Poki isn't determined enough, or maybe Poki is way more determined than Hafu ever was. That's on her.
      Also, I think Hafu already started a 1000 when she had a month to prepare for Pogchamps.
      And yes, Poki has a month, but so do others. Charlie (PenguinZ/Moistcr1tikal) for example is possibly an 1100 or 1200 elo at this point, currently being trained by GM Daniel Naroditsky, "The Prophet". He already knows more advanced tactics and is currently practicing the Accelerated Dragon variation of the Sicilian Defense and the Vienna Gambit for the white pieces.
      XQC is about 1000 rated and other participants as well.

      Hafu played thousands of games and trained hard. After that, I was not impressed by her play. In one of her games in pogchamps, she was scared to take the pawn with her rook, but there was nothing scary there. She also could have check the king in some games and pick up some pawns, by maintaining pressure, but she decided against those moves. Made no sense to me. I am not impressed by the Poki either, but I am impressed by MichelleKhare, after watching her lesson with Anna Rudolf. She is still completely new at chess, and she is seeing things more than Poki. In my opinion, the London system is a bit overrated in terms of beginner friendlyness. The positions tend to be more closed/positional, usually requiring some experience to tackle properly. Also, I’m not convinced that a system based opening is the optimal way of learning to understand the first couple of moves. Most players rated below 1200 will not play opening theory after the 3-4 move either. And so understanding general principles seem more practical at this point.
