One of the best things about that match last night was seeing Ruud on the bench constantly getting up to vocally support ETH in directing play and giving constant encouragement to the team, putting an arm around some players to let them know he has there back. It's like that dream girl you fell madly in love with many years ago, you never wanted her to go and have always wondered about. And now she is back in your life and the good times all come rolling back. Loving United right now. Feels like 1991 all over again

My biggest takeaway was the collective buy-in of the players into the new game model. It suits the team and the players seem to enjoy it. Doesnt put too much pressure on any one player or position and allows the team creat a lot of chances. I cannot wait for them to improve their implementation so its more fluid and everyone knows where they should be and what they should do instinctively. GGMU!
I will give Bruno the benefit of the doubt in terms of finishing to say he played no preseason games apart from the Manchester city again and played last night and I think the only thing missing from his game was finishing last night and we all know Bruno’s finishing will become better as the season goes on
Two good saves tbf. The offside goal against City shows you he's has no problem with finishing.
The game felt very different compared to last season. I know it is the first game of the season, and against Fulham, but it felt like United were in control for most of the match. It didn’t feel like we were going to concede at almost any point, which is different from last season, when every posession the opponent got felt like we were gonna let one in.
The players seemed motivated as well, but that might just be because the season just started.
The two main things I think we need to improve is the finishing as well as making it more difficult for the opponent to dribble through the midfield. At times Fulham got to the edge of our box in a few seconds from their own half.
If you watch his highlights a lot of his goals are like that. Well placed balls without a lot of flash. Glad we got him.

The two different play style of Rasmus and Zirkzee will definately give Ten Hag an option on how to appraoch a game. So excited to see Rasmus come back from injury.
Hojlund had a good pre season he looked really fit to compete. Its a shame he got injured but I think this year he will be much better then last season. I expect Zirkzee to roll in later in games and against opponents who are going to park the bus.
The one thing I enjoyed above all else last night was the fact we didn't concede 30+ shots, as per usual, and our heads didn't go in the second half either.
We looked more solid, more composed and switched on.
I'm still not sure this formation is quite working, but it's only the first game of the season and players are not fully match fit yet.
The key will be Brighton now. If we can beat them too, we begin to build some momentum going into the Liverpool game.
A proper LB would be the answer to many of the issues we faced yesterday, and obviously many players didn't get to participate in a proper preseason

Oh thank you. Anyone with a brain could tell we earned that win. Big improvement from last season opener. We had a good amount of control. There were some flares obviously however good signs non the less.

It's actually quite classic Ajax football, well before EtH, to have a centre forward rather than a striker linking up with a (more) gifted nr. 10 while the fast runners to beat off side are on the wing and more forward than the centre. It doesn't need to be the quickest, most athletic great dribbler, he needs to be comfortable on the ball, comfortable with his back to a defender and arriving in the box to score rather than being there a lot.
Yes it was his first touch in the box, was lmao at people calling out Zirkzee goal a lucky strike, the manner he made the late run to the box and flick the ball into the right direction into the free goal area are split decision making associated with skillful strikers, coupled with his intelligence and physicality I predict a 15 goal+ for Zirkzee this season
In the first game, we kept a clean sheet, didn't get run over, and didn't allow a million chances. This is a big improvement from last year's opener. If we see this type of performance in a month after the window closes, then I will be disappointed for the first game of the season and our new players coming through and no injuries. Hey, we are 1-0. All we need is 37 more victories, and we are all happy again.
For how we want to play Zirkzee fits the mould perfectly. He's the kinda player that drops deep links the play his dribbling in tight spaces his vision etc he's different to Hojlund which means more flexibility for different games. Can't wait to see more of him

I thought we didn't need a second striker because we have several players that can play in the number 10 role, but now I see why Zirkzee is a good signing. He brings another dimension to the team and it means we can manage without Hojlund as a target player.

We now have a forward who epitomises the swagger of Berbatov, cool on the ball and charts his move from the moment he receives the ball. Kind of difficult to mark too coz he drops deep.

The beauty of the late run is that defenders can’t pick him up, but he needs the wingers and maybe another midfielder to make the front post run, unless there would be nobody in the box and the defenders and maybe midfielders would figure it out.

Rashford needs to be subbed and Garnacho starting in the left with Amad in the right. Rashford needs to improve this finishing and coming on the later minutes to give that extra push if needed. ❤

Rashford and Garnacho are our best two wingers, and by some distance. They'll start the majority of games no matter how much you cry about it. Amad will never make it as a first team regular starter, but he'll be very useful squad player until we move him on.
If Amad can't make it very surprised Rashford is here. As Amad does the basics of football well and Rashford can't.

I totally agree with you unique for Zirkzee i saw your depiction you made of him, its the best thing that could have happened for him confidence wise before that he looked careful what he needed and got was a situation being presented to him from his Bologna days and boy did he get it and didn’t miss the chance presented to him to toe poke the finish like a sharp shooter’s pistol. What I liked about him was that he was very aware of what was going on around him and knew exactly what he wanted to do before he even got the ball. Everytime he touched it he looked very composed and was looking to move the ball on. Almost the complete opposite to Rashford who almost always seems to have no idea what he is going to do when he gets the ball.
For those old enough to have played Pro Evo from 20+ years ago; Zirkzee reminds me of the player we all created at some point, with Max Height, Max Weight, Max Strength and a Afro.

J-Z’s profile as a target man is exactly why we wanted to sign Harry Kane. At this point in his career, he’s not a prolific goal scorer ( I’m Ok w/16-20 goals ) but will get double digit goal assists. He’s technically gifted, and a monster pressing from the front. Hopefully INEOS gets this transfer window sorted so this team can start gelling.

I can’t remember seeing anything from Joshua in that half an hour replay apart from once it hit the ball up in a number 10 position span on it put it out at winger quickly and the goal that’s all I remembered, but I think our forward six players to work on 12 touch finishing in the box. Cross is coming one touch finish. They need to work on that because Mason should’ve scored. Alejandro should’ve scored, Bruno should’ve scored, but the keeper did come out quickly enough to get something to stop him

Felt he was lost the first 5 minutes of his cameo. Definitely more sluggish than Hojlund. However, last 10 minutes was perfect! He dropped down deep, scored the winner!
