As long as he focuses on his game and doesn't have someone to bully, speaking as a Canucks fan, Miller can be a superstar. For how long is the question. He's also great on face-offs and again, when he's not distracted, he's physical, gritty and a good 2 way player. Many Canucks fans are furious with this and think you fleeced us.
@@christhornycroft3686i just moved to Van and don’t know much about hockey - do you think they could’ve got a better return? why would they accept what sounds like nothing back? (i know the issues but for a 100+, surely they could get more)
@ I agree with your point. It is asking for major trouble. Both Mika and JT are showing potential age decline and if that continues next season could be a disaster.
Obviously Chytil right now isn't close to Miller at his best, but the Canucks weren't really getting Miller at his best anymore either. Vancouver got a centre in Chytil who fits into the group's age range, Mancini is a RHD which is somewhat valuable, and they got a 1st round (protected) pick without having to retain any salary on Miller. I'm pretty relieved with this trade as a Vancouver fan, especially with an extra 1st round pick to work with and a rising salary cap next season.
The ability to dump Miller for both his attitude and his long contract with no retention is fantastic for the team. Vancouver has gotten younger and presumably a healthier locker room environment; that means they don't HAVE to win now, they still have time to retool and continue improving. NY has chosen to win now, get older, and give up future assets at the cost of taking on a contract like Miller's that could very well become a massive hinderance in the latter half of the term. You would want a bit more for a 100 point 1C, but given the situation and the fact Vancouver didn't have the leverage in this deal, the haul isn't too bad overall.
Although Vancouver dug themselves a massive hole and made this more difficult than it should've been given the situation they did really well to pry that much out of the Rangers I agree and they free up a lot of cap space too which is something people are forgetting as well as the fact that Miller makes 9mil until he's 37. Also side note but people are really overlooking Mancini and disrespecting him he should be a solid 2nd or 3rd pair shut down dman and most people are acting like he's a throw in
I don’t understand this from the Rangers perspective. If they were in the playoffs, this would make more sense, but they’re not even in a wild card spot right now and they just traded a first round pick for a bad locker room guy who just made their already aging core even older. I mean sure, the move might make them better now, but I think this will hurt them in the future.
While I’m watching your video the nhl has been going nuts First the rantanen trade The Kuzmenko trade The Brandon Saad and Tony Deangelo signings Minor but the Perunovich trade Adam Boqvist claimed off waivers The miller trade And now the Marcus Peterson trade
I have rooting interest in the Rangers (my dad's side all are). I personally can't love it as this is the wrong time to trade Miller. You had Cuylle, Kakko, Chytil on the same line and they were great together, now 2/3 have been traded. The protection is nice, but they should still waive the protection as 2026 is projecting to be much deeper. The return going to VAN is palatable as Chytil can't stay healthy and Mancini is still unproven yet has good upside. Even still they'll be big game hunting in FA the next two summers. The Canucks had to make a move on Miller or Pettersson and we'll see how the trade plays out
Not as big a deal as maybe I'd have thought. It could be an 'A' for the Rangers. I'm not writing them off. Too much talent and if their goalie gets hot for a playoff run, not the team to bet against. But the downside risk of a rd 1 pick + a mid-6 forward isn't that big of a return. The freed-up cap space is the win for Vancouver.
This trade isn't bad to the extent where Canucks got fleeced (the level of eg. Alexei Yashin, Toffoli to the Canucks, PLD), and yes, the Canucks did free up some cap space so they can go big in FA, but they weren't able to boost their D core as a result of this trade, especially as Rangers are also another team that's trying to buy top-3 Ds. Couldn't they have used this opportunity to snatch one of Alex Pietrangelo, Brent Burns, or Marcus Pettersson to save their D core? A roster with Hughes, Hronek, Pettersson, Boeser, Debrusk, Garland, and Lankinen should spell W-I-N N-O-W
100% a desperation move but Miller will definitely be motivated and I think he’ll be a good fit, I’d expected rangers to make playoffs. Long term this could be a disaster with Mika and JT in same locker room…
I've said it before... as someone who lives near Vancouver, I think you're wrong. The relationship between Miller & management, if it was problematic, was fixable. With Pettersson, it's irreparably broken. The things Tocchet & Allvin - and even Rutherford - have said about EP40 are things that you can't take back, particularly with someone who is a big a diva as Petey. It's over. They need to move him out.
Nothing like adding a psychopath into a fragile locker room!

Having your top 2 centers in their 30’s, and locked up, is risky business… we’re still yet to see a team win a cup with a 1C over 30 in the cap era
Brindamour in 2006. He played way more minutes than Staal. But it is still a good point.
