I'm enjoying your series on vintage vs. modern versions of pens. And this was especially interesting because the vintage Aurora 88 is one of my all time favorite pens, and the modern DuoCart is quite nice.
Looking forward to your European content!

I like these vintage vs modern pens. And you are doing that with some pens I also have which is nice. I have two vintage Duo Cart and one modern. I like the modern more. I think it really is a very well made. Very comfortable and suited to very long writing sessions. If I lost my modern Duo Cart I would buy another as a replacement and I have a lot of other pens in my collection!
By the way, the modern Platinum cartridgs fit. I have them, I used them they work fine. But they aren't long enoough to stop the rattling sound.

A Platinum converter will fit the vintage duocart.

I have both the modern and the vintage Aurora Duo Cart pens. I have a pair of the vintage DCs that I love nearly as much as I do all my Aurora 88s. Indeed, it’s the next best thing to an 88. But I’d say that about the lesser known but splendid Aurora 98, as well.
Anyway, the Duo Cart pens are of perfect size, weight, feel in the hand, and I can’t praise the nib and the writing experience highly enough. I adore the pens, both vintage and modern. And I’m so fond of the modern Duo Carts that I now have four of them. It has one of the best steel nibs I’ve ever used. The only pen comparable to the modern ADC is the Lamy 2k. And the Aurora edges out the Lamy for me. That is saying a lot. I reckon.
Thanks, Olivier, for showcasing such a truly lovely Aurora pen(s).
edit: I have recently learned that modern Platinum cartridges fit nearly perfectly in these vintage Aurora pens. That ball/chain mechanism was advertised as the ‘ink alarm’ system. Indeed the Duo Cart was mainly regarded as a student’s pen, back in the day.

Thanks for another comparison. Last year I bought the new Duo-Cart and had mixed feelings about it. It's attractive, and the cap is especially nice looking, but when I took the cap off, I saw the nib was off-center about 30 degrees to the left. I was able to gently work it back to center, but it left me in doubt about Aurora's quality control, considering how it was boxed and marketed as a special modern re-issue. But that was the only issue and the steel nib writes very nicely as does the one in your review. I do think the nib unit looks nicer on the original. I like the pen. My only quibble is the street price of $185 (and much higher for the gold nib), which I think I bit on the high side for what you actually get. However, I'd buy it again if something happened to mine, which I think is a really good compliment for any pen. Only one question: Parlez-vous français couramment? If not, you will the best way possible by living there.

I have the aurora 88 duocart and love it! The nib is surprisingly wonderful and has a stubbish feel to it. Not at all impressed with the modern version of the pen, though. Thanks for such a good review! I have been enjoying these modern/vintage comparisons very much!

Hi Olive! My gosh you moved to Europe! I wish you the best🙏 I hope you can continue your videos.
I got an 88K and hope you could share whatever you know about the 88 versions since there's a debate going on right now with youtuber ode who will really appreciate if you share with him directly.
Be safe and enjoy your Great new life🥰😍🌟

I think a Platinum cartridge actually fits the vintage Duo Cart, but don't quote me on that. Feel free to try though!

I have both and vintage is way better. It annoys me that Aurora has put steel insert in the new Duocart just to make it heavier. And the reason? Apparently some morons equate weight of the pen with quality and associate light with cheap.
Also, the weight of the cap on the vintage Duocart makes the pen well balanced when posted. The new Duocart is unbalanced.
My recommendation is, forget the new Duocart, buy vintage.
Better design, better nib, better writing instrument.
