So the wind farm is private, southern water is constantly putting sewage in the sea, and you keep letting overpriced, poorly built private housing be put up all over the city centre to accommodate London commuters and students but don’t do anything about the lack of social housing development. You’ve completely priced out locals from living in the city centre. Done nothing about HMO’s. Should be ashamed more wasn’t done when the council was green with the amount of money flowing into the city. You’ve let developers and landlords pinch every penny that comes down from London. Thanks for facilitating the growing inequality seen in Brighton today, can’t wait to see what Sian can achieve representing the city in parliament 😊

Brighton Council do not control any waterways that feed into the channel, so I don't really know what you expect a local city council to do about other towns releasing sewage into the waterways. Also, honest question coming from someone born in Brighton who now lives outside it, how would a local council prevent locals from being priced out? Rising housing costs are a problem in every major city, and Brighton's location makes it very attractive. They can't just bar people from buying homes if they don't already live in the city.

    • @fricraft1

@@KeirGroves rent caps, reducing HMO’s, building more social housing in the town centre, not allowing the universities to take on more students than they can provide for without huge reliance on the private sector housing. Town planning has a huge effect on local economy. If most low wage workers live outside the city centre and the centre is full of affluent people working for international corpos or commuting to London, The local economy will be highly unequal and inefficient, and without rent control, all excess poll tax you’re collecting is going straight on footing the uc claimant housing payments and social care costs etc. You’re not able to socialise this wealth being brought in from elsewhere, the council/city will remain poor and remain reliant on the money coming in from elsewhere. Obviously cuts have shredded local budgets but it’s been happening for 15 years, all the council has done is sat on its hands and complain about budget, not come up with any practical solutions, and basically facilitate the sell off of the city centre to housing developers. If I see another steel frame high rise with tiles of brick slip swear down I’m going to jump off the thing. If you have more than £10m then you can pay for very good accountants who make sure you won't pay the tax. Great idea but unrealistic unfortunately.

Thank god the greens have got ambitious ideas, unfortunately 'speedbumps' in the road have the same effect as leaving the handbrake on. Think big & go for it. Greens all the way.

If you earn, earn being the word, £10 m, the Green's will penalise you, yet again, you having already paid a high amount of tax on what you have earned, and guess what, high earners will move their business abroad, or register them abroad where there is a lower tax rate. Greens are as bad as Labour, and the rest of them

Switzerland has a wealth tax that has been in effect for decades and it works just fine.
The reason U.K. tax law is so full of holes is because it has been designed that way.
