This is pretty awesome. I have a lot of weird nostalgia for places I first played various arcade games. I tell you what though, my wife is not impressed by long list of locations and stories where I first played each game LOL. "Honey, that's the gas station where I first played Karnov and here's the laundry Mat where I played Willow".
As a former smoker myself (around 15 cigarettes per day for 13 years since I was 13 years old), I can say I'm proud of you. I quit smoking 8 years ago and never looked back, but it hasn't been easy. So, very well done, Johnny!

As an older guy myself, some folks don't know or don't remember - it was NOT cool to like video games, let alone displaying your passion on video for the world to see. Even James took a snarky POV and also he was playing a character. You put yourself out there and that took some guts. Credit to Johnny.
So my story discovering the Happy Console gaming channel was when you and Rob used to do the show. I’ll be honest I thought you were the sidekick and this was rob’s show because he just hi jacked it with his passion for video games. I didn’t notice it was your channel until every video was pretty much Johnny in his BSAA jacket. I tried rewatching the early episodes but your right you don’t look or sound like past Johnny.
Johnny, I must say it is amazing how much has changed on your channel since the first video. Congrats on quitting smoking and staying off. You look so much younger now than back then. Watching this reminds me of my first video, and I will certainly keep mine up for memories and retrospect. Great video pal.

I started in 2011, only got to 10k but it was a mostly a great experience. Definitely not without the bs drama, but a lot of fun, and if you're passionate, it's worth it no matter what, to talk about your favorite games, and people actually care to listen! Still blows my mind. But my first video was horrible, a cellphone camera from 2009 pointed at a box set TV screen, of a PS2 game called EverQuest Online Adventures lol. Barely even spoke i was so timid.
I started watching your videos a month ago, went back to watch your first video, and am about halfway through your catalogue. Thank you for 10 years of making such heartfelt and genuine content. I turned 41 this year and though I don’t game anymore, I re-live a lot of old memories watching your videos. For filming the screen, it's really clear. I like these specific game intros of a game review since it is like a demo reel of the game. I wish more people did this!! Thanks for uploading! What a difference 10 years makes, eh? Also, even back then, you seem very natural in front of the camera. You don't seem nervous in the least =)
seeing our younger self is an odd experience on itself since we usually like to ask, "Was that really me back then?" and yea, it is very jarring but it is also important so we can either learn or improve our futures. sorry for that cheesy mini speech, felt like it was appropriate. Love your videos. My first video I saw from your channel was the Megaman and Megaman X series reviews starring the Rob Man since I wanted to see some Megaman content at the time.
It's also a great way to gauge how much you've improved over the years and can be a reminder of things we've lost or forgotten but can still apply today. But man is it usually jarring.
Something about your old videos that has a bit of charm. Not to say that I don't like your new ones. But it was a different time and you where one of the few people that I watched back in the early days of RUclips. This was a great video. I'm at about 2 years and I look at my progression. I learned alot on the way. My first years worth of videos is well terrible to be honest. But I've made some great friends along the way.

Want to say thank you for this video and the 10 year anniversary special stream. I struggled making videos but I learnt that if you just put the videos out there, enjoy what you're talking about then you'll keep developing. After many attempts, feel I am confident enough to make videos on a regular basis, and feel a lot of that is thanks to your words and advice.

I started watching your videos a couple of years ago and went back and watched them all. I have also kept up with every video since. I do not recall you doing any videos dedicated to the Sega Saturn as a console. You have done some specific games but nothing dedicated to the console as a whole. I first found your channel when looking for Dreamcast videos. Your Dreamcast Rocks episode with Rob was fantastic as it was clear from it that you guys were huge fans and genuinly lovers of the console and iv been a fan and regular viewer of yours ever since. Its the episode of yours iv watched the most. The Dreamcast is my all time favourite console.

Been watching your show for years. I was born in 81 and have the same same nostalgic view of gaming and movies as you. Watching your excitement and enthusiasm for this stuff makes me wish I had a friend or brother like you growing up. Your review of street fighter 2 was the first I saw and I was hooked. Never thought I would be nostalgic for the dimly lit arcades with cigarette smoke smell and the danger of getting mugged at any moment. Hope you have many more happy years of reviewing 😀
Before I watched this video I went back and watched the Phantasy Star video and the first thing I noticed was that your voice was deeper then than it is now. It's funny that it's the first thing you mentioned. I actually think the video is pretty good though. My favorite parts of the video are the massive camera you used, it looks like you're filming the news on location, and of course "Sega SATIN".

Want to say thank you for this video and the 10 year anniversary special stream. I struggled making videos but I learnt that if you just put the videos out there, enjoy what you're talking about then you'll keep developing.
After many attempts, feel I am confident enough to make videos on a regular basis, and feel a lot of that is thanks to your words and advice.
Looking at you and past you back to back, and hearing the way you speak about "him", it makes me think of this strange Spiderman and Venom type of thing.
I started watching your videos a couple of years ago and went back and watched them all. I have also kept up with every video since. I do not recall you doing any videos dedicated to the Sega Saturn as a console. You have done some specific games but nothing dedicated to the console as a whole. Do you not have much reverence and fondness for Saturn? If you do, it would be awesome if we could get a video..
Johnny, I really enjoy your channel. These days I don’t have time to play video games because I have to focus on my music career. Watching your videos gives me my video game fix when I need it. Hopefully I’ll have time in the near future to get a console and play it. Your smoking video is helping me in the process of quitting. I still smoke and struggle, but it’s helping. Thanks Johnny!
Good to hear your views on your 1st video. I agree, not taking down old videos. It makes me sad when people go through and delete everything. If you dont want it public set it to private, so at least you can go back in the future and see what you were doing ;)
Always loved your passion for gaming. I've always wanted to make similar videos and just talk about my favorite games and whatnot. Never got the courage to put myself out there though. Happy 10 Years HCG!
I first found your channel when looking for Dreamcast videos.
Your Dreamcast Rocks episode with Rob was fantastic as it was clear from it that you guys were huge fans and genuinly lovers of the console and iv been a fan and regular viewer of yours ever since.
Its the episode of yours iv watched the most. The Dreamcast is my all time favourite console.
Congrats on 10 years of uploading content and quitting smoking! I've lost track but I believe I've been watching for 9 to 10 years or so. I know it was shorty after the retro game review craze kind of started. Always appreciated all the original content. These days I don't have much time to watch any other of these type of video game channels really - this is the only one I still watch. :)

time has actually been very kind to you, extremely good, in fact if you put those two videos and not tell people the date, most would say your first video is an older johnny than right now, crazy. Can't be only the quitting smoking, it must be a change in diet and exercise, right?

Been watching your show for years. I was born in 81 and have the same same nostalgic view of gaming and movies as you. Watching your excitement and enthusiasm for this stuff makes me wish I had a friend or brother like you growing up. Your review of street fighter 2 was the first I saw and I was hooked. Never thought I would be nostalgic for the dimly lit arcades with cigarette smoke smell and the danger of getting mugged at any moment. Hope you have many more happy years of reviewing 😀
Before I watched this video I went back and watched the Phantasy Star video and the first thing I noticed was that your voice was deeper then than it is now. It's funny that it's the first thing you mentioned. I actually think the video is pretty good though. My favorite parts of the video are the massive camera you used, it looks like you're filming the news on location, and of course "Sega SATIN".

I started watching upon finding your FFXI video. Sometimes I think that was a worse addiction then smoking, because I can visually see the recorded years that it took from my life :)

Hey man congrats on 10 years quitting! Love your videos i finally played phantasy star 1 2 years ago. I only had number 3 growing up which everyone hates on, but i loved it. It had this magical lore just with nothing but your imagination on the Orkio an Laya past events storyline.
It is awesome to watch this because your first video actually got me into Sega rpgs in general and you defiantly look better over the years and thank you so much Johnny for being on RUclips for ten amazing years
