Tove Jansson is magic! We Swedes feel a lot of pride for her too. I know I'm no Kat Dennings, but I would really recommend The Summer Book på Jansson. It's one of my favorites. And I know Ariel needs to read 100 books this year. Sooooo....

Raeleen!! Do not get rid of the cardigan!! Do you have some of the Lilac yarn left if so you could do some extension rows along the side of the body front and back in the main stitch used in the squares. Are they US Double Trebles? Just doing a row or two down the side of the fronts and back on both left and right sides could add enough to make the body feel more roomy like you're wanting. By how the sleeves are fitting on the pod that will make the sleeve drop further down the arm so they'd feel longer but I don't think they be too long. You can always add extension rows to things to make the fit more roomy so don't be discouraged and give it away definitely keep it!! 🤗☺

I think raeleen would really like this cozy book called Garden Spell by Sarah Addison Allen. Its about two sister reconnecting after 10 years and the protagonist is a kitchen witch. Cooking is a big part of the book.

I was crocheting daisy squares and eating chocolate Moomin biscuits while watching this, accidentally incredibly on theme 😂Despite being Swedish, I've only ever read one Moomin book by Tove Jansson (by the way, if you want a tip on how to get her name slightly more right, try to pronounce the E in Tove a bit more 😊), but now I'm a bit curious to give her other novels a try. Also, so nice to have a book rec episode again, I get why you stopped, but I've missed it 😂

Also proud of you raleeen for all the fun activities you’ve been doing outside of reading. I know that was a big goal of yours this year (mine too) and you are killing it! Love to hear about all your adventures

BTW, what number is this book on the way to 100? I can't remember from the last goals check-in.

I listen to you guys mostly as a podcast and at a 1.3 speed. I had a hard time figuring out why the transition sound was a flappy-eared dog shaking themselves :D In normal speed and video it is not like that but listening as a podcast every time I still see a shaking dog in my mind's eye :D

If neither of you have read "the summer book" also from Tove Jansson I highly recommend. It's another short one. It's all fluff and kind of reads like a short story collection. It takes place all over the course of one summer with the same characters. It's adorable and was one of my top books of last year

You talking about the Tove Jansson book reminded me of a story in Emily Carroll's graphic novel horror anthology Through the Woods, which is one of the rare anthologies I liked. So, if you are interested, there is a short read for your 100 books.

As a Finn I always get so excited when I see people outside Finland reading Tove Jansson, glad to hear you enjoyed The True Deceiver! 🤩 I highly recommend The Summer Book, it's about a grandma and her granddaughter living in their summer cottage and it just has the best Finnish summer vibes ❤️ And also the Moomin books, they are labeled as children's books but are actually really philosophical and great for adults as well!

Another recommendation for a book where there are not many locations, and sort of feels like the character is on a mission I'd recommend Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. Very different from Finnish snowy lands, but still very interesting !

Ariel if you want a short story collection I HIGHLY recommend Close Range by Annie Proulx - I’m not a short story person but this was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever read and I think you would love it. Especially as I know you’re interested in reading more westerns!!

If you wanna read an unreliable narrator, i hiiiighly recommend The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid - it’s my favourite book, and it’s sooo well written. There’s quite a bit of allegory going on, so part of the story reads like a metaphor, and with the unreliable narrator it really keeps you on your toes. And despite all of this, it reads super easily, it got me out of a year long reading slump. It’s definitely a different vibe than the one by Tove Jansson, but i just thought i’d put this in here 😊

i didn't realize Tove Jansson did stories like this, it sounds wonderful! ty Kat Dennings for enlightening us - sidenote i find her one of the funniest actresses ever, i think the last thing i watched with her in it was Dollface (which was super strange and great), i hope she's in something new soon!

hey! just wanted to recommend another japanese author who plays with the concept of "an ordinary craft made somewhat magical + a succession of little stories" with talent : Ito Ogawa, who wrote The Restaurant of Love Regained and "La papeterie Tsubaki" that I don't seem to find translated to english but maybe I'm wrong!
