The patience it takes to carefully remove the electrical stuff, test it and then reinstall all of it onto a car not designed to accommodate it. Also, the knowledge to source and install the correct parts to bring it all together to life. Much respect.
That job is intense but you made it look easy. The before and after acceleration runs brought it home how much the swap changed things. The electrical end of things would be my unicorn. Electronics is not my strong suit. Great job and another beetle still on the road !
You've answered the question probably every Volkswagen air-cooled engine owner has asked himself if he's replaced his own motor. Excellent concept beautiful work thanks for sharing.
I had a VW Bus PASS me on a hill north of Roseburg Oregon , I was in my empty log truck with a 425 cat and rolling 70, fucker walked by me like I was standing still. It was Subby powered. And I liked it!!
Hay man nice job I have a 73 super that ive done An ej2.0 turbo swap in its been two years and I put crazy miles on this car 300hp to the tires its an absolute blast to drive. Again great job and welcome to the Suba Beatle family
Well done man! This video is awesome.. had a vision and ya nailed it.. at this very moment lifting my 1600 back into my ‘72.. must say I wouldn’t mind a sub engine going in instead 😂. Greetings from Oz.
Nice work! I did my conversion back in 2008 with the ej25 SOHC engine. Retained the factory fuel injection as well but I mounted 2 radiators in the front fenders and a third behind the grill of my 71 Super.
Bro you got hell of a car. I've always wanted to swap a vr6 onto a cabrio, i bought the engine and other parts, then i chicken out when i saw all the parts lol. Great work, enjoy your car!
Last year I just finished building a all new stock 1600 VW engine for my bug, and with all receipts, it cost me $5000. It made me sick, $100 per HP...pathetic, I feel real stupid. So much so I bought a 2011 Outback a couple months ago and while I'm going to drive it for a couple years, this will be my new mill for the bug eventually. It's only in hindsight I see the cost benefits of the Subie swaps. I can never recoup my $$ from the VW engine, but its sale can recoup the Outback's costs.... Thanks for the video!
Hi Noel thinking of swping a Peugeot 505 GTI executive with a Subaru engine....ever been done before in France? The car has character it's underrated actually.
I knew a girl. Blew up her bug motor. Rich girl. Her dad took the car to get another motor. But only motor/tranny was from a Porsche. Her yellow bug was a yellow sleeper was an understatement
Hi Anthony, Great, great and great job! I also really enjoyed your video. The best part is the first start... I did the same thing with my karmann ( 97 impreza, blablabla... ) .my wife was waiting for the first crank and totally failed ; ) Anyway, super cool!. Jerome.
The Subaru to beetle swap is definitely the way to go. Mighty car mods did a feature on how to build a sleeper beetle about 5 years ago and it’s intrigued me ever since. Well done !
When I was a teenager, my I lived next door to a guy who worked on old VW's like this. He could make a hot-rod air cooled VW engine and they sounded great, this seems like it might be less work.
I love the build. But, if I was going to put a radiator on a bug, I would have put a heater control box in with a manual water valve to make it bearable in the winter. Maybe an old Jeep control box would fit somewhere.
You should absolutely be in luck, as most of the guys doing this swap mention how the Subaru generally prefers a heater core in order to keep its cool.
Thanks! I’ll try to get some videos up detailing my build. I have a google spreadsheet of all the parts I used for this project linked in the description that may be of some use to you.
I'm not a car expert and I always wondered how these engine swaps are possible at all, I mean, how it is possible to attach such a different engine to the drive chain. This adapter plate thing kind of explains it to me. 😉 Looks complex, though, especially all that work on the electrical parts. Very impressive!
The patience it takes to carefully remove the electrical stuff, test it and then reinstall all of it onto a car not designed to accommodate it.

Much respect.
I agree with you on this. I too, used to do engine swaps back in the '70s... It's not as complex as it is today.
One who never owned a bush frog can not truly comprehend the transformation.
Courage. And BALLS does it.
Excellent work young man!

You have to admire the person who doesn’t except things as they are, and those willing to move the boundary lines.
I would have " admired" the "person" if he would have kept the Subaru 5 speed.... ruclips.net/video/1xyE8oU-s4c/видео.html

People have been putting the Subaru engines in the Vanagons for decades! This was just a step in another direction.
How come 300 + people failed to appreciate the hardwork, determination and grit for this sleeper.
This is truly beast on the streets, nicely done.
If u cld c the smiling faces of people around these 347 when they die, u will know.
Because it fucking sucked what is the point of replacing 1 slow ass engine for another slow ass engine it’s was still slow af lol 😂
@@americanmuscleup2497 how can an engine be slow? It’s all about power to weight bozo

can be done to vw bus / van too also with porsche 6 cylinders to vans and trans from some porsches can be used for a 5th gear
Fantastic man. I as a 72 year old drive and love my 2008 Subaru WRX 2.5.turbo, beautiful ride and sound.
Your exhaust pipe modifications really changed the clearly identifiable Subaru sound to a unique exhaust note all your own. Sounds great!
That feeling when u start the engine for the first time is incredible! Good job man! This video is awesome!
Thats badass! Awesome job dude sounds much more lively. I bet it puts a bigger smile on your face when u drive it now.

I always wanted to get myself a kombi and do a Subby swap on it. Sadly it's never going to happen, but it was a nice dream.
Five gold stars. Much respect. Before/After format works great.
Awesome. As I'm your dad's age now, and never had kids, these are moments I wish I had. Much respect young man.

I get 30mpg avg cruzing at 75 to 80 on freeway I have done sevral 1000 mile round trips with not one issue :)
Wow such a clean finished look. Good job!
Love this. All the best with this amazing build
Magnífico trabajo !! 👏👏👏👏👏 "Las cosas no se dicen, se hacen🚗, porque al hacerlas se dicen solas✈️ "... 👏👏👏👏👏
This is an awesome swap! I subie swapped my 71 bus, now debating it for my bug. This may give me some more inspiration!
Hell Yeah Man!!! Huge difference on HP from the original engine to the EJ22. You taught me a future engine swap.
This is an awesome swap. Great engineering. Wish you a lot fun and save miles
Learn something new everyday. I never knew Subaru had a flat 4 in its vehicles. On top of that, what a bad ass swap! Great idea...
Just curious... what did you think was under most Subaru hoods? A few got the H-6, while even fewer got the I-4.
Well done man! This video is awesome.. had a vision and ya nailed it.. at this very moment lifting my 1600 back into my ‘72.. must say I wouldn’t mind a sub engine going in instead 😂. Greetings from Oz.
Nice report ! The best part is your love for your beetle .
This beetle has been in my family since the early 1980’s. It was my moms first car.
Respekt für die Leistung und Hingabe das Ergebnis ist echt wow.
Nice swap! I spent many years playing with high-performance air cooled VW engines and always wondered about a WRX engine swap in a Karman Ghia.
Man, that would be a SWEET Ghia conversion

Cool how you did the before and after runs. It's quick! Nice build.
I'd totally bump it up another inch.
Fantastic swap and the cooling system is brilliant !
Muy bueno!!! Te quedó 10 puntos y con toda la personalidad. Si decidís sacarle ruido, por favor no le saques mucho.
What a swap 🤤

Nicely done. Great music choice as well. Love Cloudkicker.
Just amazing, real special planning and foresight.

I heard a long time ago that actor Paul Newman owns a VW Beetle with a Porsche 911 engine.

Great work, sounds and runs great :)
You built a little sleeper there! Nice!
Awesome job. Thanks for sharing the parts list. I'm thinking of doing mine🤙
I've seen some people do those swaps on vw beetles here in Brazil, it's pretty sick
Just the wire harness gives me tics. 🤪

That car is now a rocket!!!
My god!!!
That was great. How satisfying that must have been. Lots of complexity..

Awesome job guys...
