Adding several of these to my list and I very much appreciate the fact that it’s not all books specifically written for homeschooling moms. It’s so important that we read a wide variety of books!

Oh yes! I completely agree. I’ve had quite a few people scratch their heads when I recommend Lewis’ Space Trilogy as an introduction to classical ed, but once you fall through that wardrobe, you realize every part of life, every part of a person, must be brought into the conversation which means many, many books and most of them not “homeschooling” books!

I am not a mother, nor will I be a mother teacher, but I find your content 100/100. My wife and I are pretty set on the Charlotte Mason method, in large part bc of your videos - thank you. As I help my wife teach our children, I hope to be a father teacher - haha! Thanks!

I refer to my husband as the father-tutor (tutor being more of the classical term)! It's totally a thing and an important part of home education!

Well placed, subtle Narnia reference 👌Subscribing ✅

You’ll find them all over The CP! (I love Narnia with my whole heart and use the language to describe my own journey into classical ed and the enchanting, sacramental view of the world!)

So, I'm not a mom (and not really any close to becoming one 😭), but your videos are incredible even for a single 24 year old Brazilian girl. And let me tell you why that is: not only I hope to become a mom one day, but, even if that is not God's plan for me, these videos are helpful for my self education process.
So that people would know that the education system, methods, just education in general, is absolutely terrible (in so many levels) here in Brazil, so the only way to gain so intellect is to work on my own to find good things online. Thank God for the internet. It makes life easier, and it gives people like me more opportunities to learn.
And yes, The Abolition of Man is absolutely wonderful and terrifying. I've read it 3 times already, and it shocks me every time. Lewis was amazing, and I love him.
Great video! I'll definitely check out some of the books. ❤

Ah, love hearing this, Rosa! And welcome to this nook of the internet! Everything I say is good for children is good for...everyone. We're all persons. So while I take the education route to talk about these ideas, they are certainly for anyone!

Woohoo! My husband is currently reading You Are What You Love and I want to slide Abolition of Man onto his nightstand shortly! (He’s the reason we read Whole-Brain Child so I think your husband will enjoy that one too!)

This video is so encouraging! I would love to read more of these books. Do you think you could do tips on bringing back the love of reading for the mother teacher? (Or is there a blog post, video, or podcast you could refer me to?) I find that I want to do more reading for myself (outside of pre reading the school books), but kind of feel intimidated.

Ann, maybe I’ll appear in army pants and flip flops soon.
All, I’m usually in a dress from Son de Flor or Not Perfect Linen. I prefer NPL because you can customize the dress without any charge, but SDF makes all my Peter Pan collar dreams come true. You can find both on Poshmark (if you’re a treasure hunter like me) or keep an eye out for SDF’s pre-loved sale which happens every so often. (It just happened and I scored this dress in a different color for more than 50% off!) I love high quality but on a deal. 😉

I’m sure you know about Ken Myers/Mars Hill Audio Journal? If you don’t, I think you would be intrigued! That’s how I came across the classical wardrobe. I heard him give a lecture at a beautiful old church when I first moved to Maine. The setting, the talk, the subject - beautiful. The more I dug into MHA, I found more and more beauty that no one else seemed to be talking about. I feel your channel is bringing that good, truth, and beauty to our generation as moms in an accessible way. (I knew about two of those books on your list from MHA :)

@@thecommonplacehomeschool ooo you’re in for a treat and a wealth of digging through years of interviews! Ken is probably our parents’ generation, and I’m pretty sure he’s been running the Journal since the 90’s. He was “podcasting” before it was a thing. ;) When I started listening a few years ago, I felt really stretched intellectually, in a good way. I hope you enjoy!

I have been on the neo-classical thing for the past decades, Dorothy Sayers etc, and not even realizing it until this year!! Any recommendations on how to pull back into the classical model? I now have a high schooler down to a three year old and I do not believe it’s too late! ❤️ But I’d like any help you have to point me toward.

This is a great question. I recommend The Great Tradition (Ed. By Gamble) and The Liberal Arts Tradition (Clark and Jain) for books. But you can also dive into the articles and resources at CiRCE and have pleeeenty to read/listen to for now!

Because this is the most important thing…is your dress Son de Flor?
I’ve read The Abolition of Man and part of the Esolen book (my library dropped it from their Hoopla catalog while I was in the middle). I look forward to tracking down and reading the rest.

And how rude of your library! Gah! I hope you find a copy soon.
