I have been using a UVB lamp for a couple years inside of my refrigerator. I cut up button mushroom like you did in the video. I lay them on a baking sheet and cover with plastic wrap. The UVB lamp sits on the top shelf and the mushrooms sit below. I usually leave it for a couple days, but maybe that is too long -- 12 to 16 hours is probably better from what you said in the video.

I really love the work you put into your videos. So, I grow shittake mushrooms and in my books they recommend to slice them thinner than you did for the button mushrooms and dry in the sun as you recommend. I have been successful storing them in brown paper bags. Seems the paper bags absorb the moisture before the mushrooms. Anyway it's an excellent way to get the natural vitamin D because it's so critical. Watch Ivor Cummins explain it in his RUclips video " The Critical Role of Vitamin D". Thanks!😊

What a great idea! Congratulation! Just one thumb up is not enough, yhis earns at least five...Folks, do not worry about oversupplying Vit.D to your body; it is virtually impossible, in spite of a widely held believe. This has been experimentally tested. Calcium in the blood stayed normal with high and also very high doses of Vitamin D.

Since I live in central Texan have plenty of sun and frequent high humidity so I charge them up then crisp dry them in 8 drawer Excalibur dehydreater. I am also going to dehydrate arugula sprouts for d dehydrating and powdering for my winter stash of NO2. I also use the temp control on dehydrator to roast the arugula leaves which gives it the yummiest unami flavor. I love you have all organic produce.

    • @maureengreen8240

Correction...learned the hard way...arugula sprouts are wickedly potent nasty tasting butthe small 3-5 inches long roast up nice and powder down as a unique unami flavor. God dor wintertime NO2. Great if you paint meat with surry of dissolved coffee crystals (I use decafe and a bit of water to a sticky paste texture, brown meat, then sprinkle on roasted arugula powder so you can judge and adjust the taste. I have done pork loin/pork chops grounded and stew beef, and it has such a deep meaty taste.

Hi. I hope you are still reading your comments on this video. 😊 I’m curious about a few things.
In the video you mentioned about cooking with the sunshine mushrooms. If you heat them, does the heat affect the the amount of vitamin D or how it’s absorbed in our bodies?
Also, how much should you consume each morning? Should we be weighing them?
To consume them, should I soak them in water first?
What is the best way to consume them, understanding that the mornings are the best time to take vitamin D?
Thank you so much! I have learned so much from your videos. I will trying the red cabbage fermentation in January. Mostly because I love beets, and also I watched your video on the differences between the green and red cabbage. I’m very happy to see that the red is so much more healthy. My husband prefers green cabbage though so I will be making that one next. Thank you again! ♥️✊🇨🇦 Alberta

      @CleanFoodLiving  Год назад +10

      Hi,
      1. heating/cooking them drops the D levels a little, but it's still there. Can't say much about absorption since everyone's body is different. How well someone absorbs and assimilates vit D can depend a lot on literally one's DNA.... there's genes for everything!
      2. I can't recommend how much to eat because the D isn't standardized per mushroom. The research I would say is a suggestion of how much D could potentially be in the mushroom. Much depends on latitude, time of year and length of exposure. I personally took a handful every day and crumbled them into my food. No need to weigh them.
      3. You can rehydrate them by soaking first, but it's not needed. If you want to keep them raw when you eat them, you can crush them by hand over oatmeal, a salad, rice or a cooked dish. Or if it doesn't matter to you whether they're cooked, you can cook them in some soup or sauce, etc.
      4. Good luck with your krauts and happy new year! 😊

Oh - one more thing. You asked about UBV chamber and if anyone had tried it. The kits certainly vary in price but most are several hundred dollars. We do have one and I haven't tried it with mushrooms sorry - but great idea. One other downside of the UVB chamber / tent (if using it a lot) is the cost of the electricity . Not so bad for a small batch if but doing it all the time, the price could become a component discouraging some. but Then again, personally for the benefits - I'd be willing to give it a go.

Thanks for your prompt answer and exceptional vedeo how much mushroom should i eat every day .? And should i pack the mushroom in the jar ? I was involved in mushroom growing for thirty years and although my work was on the electrical side i can share some knowledge with you .mushroom is grown in three batches in one bed of compost than the compost is thrown away. You can recognise the mushroom of the first batch from the second and third . The once from the first batch will have a thicker stem than those of the second and third batch.similarly the once from second batch will have a thicker stem from the third.

Since D2 is around 25-30% efficient when compared to D3, it would be nice to have a higher concentration, so it could sustain enough vitamin D for longer times, like 5-10 years supplies. Thank you

Hi, Thanks for your effort in structuring this video in such sequenced way which makes it easier for us to understand & remember.
I believe the latitude we live in should have an impact on the no.of days of drying to not over exposure. I tried to study on my own too & there isnt one that exactly described this.
I live in Auckland-NZ (latitude -35) & since you mentioned you live in Montana, I looked up a city southern city in MT called Hardin (Lat 45), so i guess 2 days exposure is applicable for me here in NZ too. But if you already had access to such a study, could you pls share if possible. Thanks.

Very interesting information. Thank you. I am wondering if I can grind these mushrooms in a blender to a flour, then store it in a glass container, and add it to my cooked dishes, what happens to vitamin D ? It still going to be there?

Pulverizing the mushrooms won't affect the vitamin D. Cooking the mushrooms may reduce it a bit, but not entirely so there will still be benefit. You could add it to the dish after cooking though.

Just wondering what would happen to the nutrient profile and bio-availability if these mushroons were rehydrated and fermented. Any thoughts? I just recently found your channel; enjoying your content and presentation. 👍

Is it safe to just leave them out in the outside uncovered? What about flies or things that could get on them?

One more video and one more Huge thank you. I have several medical conditions, and spend 99% of my time inside resting. I know I am low on Vit D. If I was to use a uv light, about how many mushrooms should I consume a day, a week please, as you warned on not overdoing it. Thank you kindly in advance.

I can't tell you how much to take, but for myself I had 1 to 2 a day with the UV light (not natural sun).... I think I could eat 3 to 4 a day. All the best to you 😊

So, after doing this how do you use these mushroom? I’m not familiar with dried mushrooms. Thanks 🙋‍♀️🌹

would you be so kind to let us know the concentration ratio IU / gr of dried mushrooms, e.g. sun-shine exposed gills - 46,000 IU / how much grams of dried muchrooms?

I've been doing this research today. A study gave 20,000UI per 1 cup mushrooms exposed to sun for the 2 days running. The good doctors that I follow recommend 4,000 UI per day.

Can you put them into a freeze dryer after sitting in the sun? And if I ground them into a powder after, would they keep their vitamins?
