I’ve only ever called a balk on obvious balks. The whole stepping off the mound after being set is a new rule (as of a few years ago) and still doesn’t make sense to me.
@@nolansprojects2840 Oh, that IS the rule? That's the only thing I could figure out it could be and that totally didn't make sense to me. Personally, feels like a weird rule change, and I'm not liking it.
About the UAE tour crash: it was actually contact unrelated to the rider moving over that started the chaos at the finish. There's helicopter footage showing 2 riders making contact, and going down and taking a large part of the field with them. From what it looks like, someone dropping back from the sprint leadout clipped the wheel of someone moving up from behind, and that was it. You can't always rely on the footage from the front of the race, as telephoto lenses always flatten an image and make things look a lot closer than they actually are.
I've been watching these since they started, and this is probably the best crop of "Things You've Misseds" yet, bolstered by the live Sumo. Just banger after banger
jomboy showing ucsd (alma mater) makes me happy. the basketball game they played against sdsu months ago was so hype, ended up losing to a buzzer beater
Suno and Sushi is much more similar to real sumo than the World Championships. It is MCed by a former Ozeki (Konishiki) and has the same rituals and decorum. That being said, a lot of it is explaining sumo and only the end is bouts, which are likely choreographed.
i mean, Sumo Worlds aren't so bad since the mat is level with the floor, actual Sumo would be scary since it's an elevated Ring and their isn't much separating the rikishi from the fans outside of a couple of the other wrestlers, one of the refs, and a bunch of old farts.
I would pay to have a real Rikishi fall on me. Especially Ura. Or Midorifuji, Tobizaru, Kirishima, Hoshoryu, Atamifuji, Ichiyamamoto, Shishi, Miyagi, Asanoyama, Asakoryu, Nabatame, any of the Waka brothers, Nob Dog, or Onosato.
I love that you guys respect all sports and give them all attention. If you have a genuine interest in Sumo you should react to Mitsugu’s 53 win streak in 1988. That would be a great video.
5:33 his back leg twitched the *tiniest* amount and froze again on the rubber, which falls well within "judgement call" territory but could fairly be called a balk. You can see it more clearly at the top of the knee
Sumo is awesome! The March basho is coming up in a few weeks. Jomboy yiu need to watch Japanese sumo. Hoshoryu stares down his opponents before the match. You would enjoy the hell out of sumo. Smaller guys sometimes beating bigger guys is fun to watch.
Jomboy's been breaking down Japanese Sumo on these "Things You've Missed" videos since they started pretty much! That's why he was invited in the first place! He's done a few great breakdowns of smaller guys taking down bigger guys!
Yes you can. Don’t know where the balk was nor did Jomboy explain. MLB pitchers have done this countless times and it is never called a balk. Coming set then stepping off directly after isn’t a problem at all.
The Panathinaikos v PAOK game 2 in the Greek cup is an ending I think you'd enjoy! Insane last minute goal to send to overtime - with a score of 2-1! The team that lost won in a fun way
Culdesac = roundabout. Genuinely feel bad for that SJSU pitcher on that game-tying balk. Pitch clock and batter in the box rules hosed him more than anything. Not even sure the first balk the umpires could not explain was a balk at all.
I REALLY love watching PLL games. Lacrosse is becoming my favorite sport to watch now. It's got everything I love from a whole lot of sports all combined in the same game.
all those balks feel like a coaching problem to me - seems pretty clear that the pitcher doesn't know or understand when he is and is not allowed to step off the mound, and that's a coach's responsibility to make sure he does.
@adam_b9903 I don't see why the first balk was called...but the second time he failed to come set before stepping off. I've watched the first one over and over and can't see why the balk was called
We had umpire during the week call a balk with no-one on, the batter had 3 balls on him and awarded the batter 1st base….. luckily common sense prevailed and he called the batter back but I agree balk calls are very subjective
@chrisbarker6797 that's wild...you can definitely balk with no runners on but that doesn't mean the batter gets first. I would've been watching the rest of the game from the lockerroom/stands if I were the coach lol
University of south Florida basketball is 13-0 with some very close games. No idea why they aren’t ranked yet, but I doubt not many ppl realize their Cinderella story, as they were slated to be ninth but are now first in the conference.
Perhaps there is different rules for that level of baseball? Maybe disengaging from the rubber after you are set to start pitching is enough to be a balk. I don't know though. It was weird to me as well.
First one looks like a knee-buckle balk, he started to move the front knee (can't see it very well from this angle, but you can see his shin move) before stepping off. Second one is a very simple start-stop balk, he brings his hands together, but doesn't continue his motion.
On the second one he didn't come to set and a complete stop (possibly this only matters on an actual pitch), and he separated his hands before stepping off (definitely a balk). I couldn't see anything wrong with the first balk, but maybe he flinched more than it appeared from this angle, or maybe he moved his left foot in some way not visible to the camera. Or the umpire may have thought he turned his body back to second before stepping off. I would love to hear the umpire's explanation though. Balk rules are weird.
@@SHSrunner09 No problem! Yeah, they are pretty difficult, particularly at the higher levels. The Egyptian guy who won this event "Sand Storm" is a former top division wrestler in Japan, formerly known as Oosunaarashi. A disgraced (forced into retirement) former Japan pro because he had a hard time following their rather strict rules. He wasn't bad, but was never really a top guy in the division. He still looks strong after all these years though! But yeah this is no comparison to the real guys in Japan.
@@RussellBeattieThat exact thing happened though. There was a World Cup of American Football from 1999 to 2015, and Japan won the first two championships. The United States chose not to participate. Likewise I'm sure the World Championship of Sumo would gladly welcome Japan's greatest stars, but it wouldn't surprise me if they were turned down. They're still touring the world though, so it wouldn't make sense to call it the American Sumo Championship.
That second balk shows how foolish the rule is. I get when it's used for deception - but how can you deceive a player that isn't even in the batters box?

In the second sumo round, it looks to me like Bear's socked toe touches outside the ring a split second before the other guy's foot touches. I'd like to see a super slow replay from another angle on that one.
At 08:35 you say that the bicyclists are rounding a cul-de-sac. That is a Roundabout, or as they call it here in Long Beach, CA, a Traffic Circle. A cul-de-sac is a dead end street.
As someone who only watches baseball on Jomboy I really don't understand what the pitcher did to get the balk. To me it looked like a textbook example of how not to get a balk, but admittedly I know very little. Edit: I wrote that before watching the second one. What the hell was the pitcher supposed to do there? Just stay set until the batter steps up to the plate? Could he have thrown it with the batter not standing by the plate? I doubt it. These are both such weird calls as someone who doesn't watch baseball.
the first balk, I can see it, The pitcher is set, He notices the runner going, and instead of making a pick off throw, he completely steps off the rubber. Once set, the pitcher can't step off. The second one shouldn't have been a balk, especially if they are using the Pitch Clock Rule, if anything, that should have been an Automatic Strike against the batter of stepping out of the box.
Just putting it out there that the Cannons probanly won that game through a couple of incredibly dirty plays on defence early in the game.
