I am old man to you. I am 70. I live alone. I listen to your wonderful renditions of Rachmaninoff and dream of the time that I was your age snd I smile. I am not afraid to die with yours and Rach’s music in my ears. Live long snd well Alexandr.
There could be no better tribute!
This young genius is all about communication. There’s no doubt about his technical mastery of the piano. He is beyond “showing off” or trying to impress. He allows the composer to speak. There’s a real humility in his greatness that reaches hearts and elevates spirits. He is a true servant of goodness, truth & beauty.
Alexander is competing in this years Tchaikovsky Competition 2019. Round 1 begins Monday June 17 and the final round ends on June 29.
Well put.
I was going to comment, but John S Schiavone's comment is perfect - what more can one say?
so much true ... in gratitude for Your beautiful words .
How true.
He's beyond human...I have made copies of all his videos in case of a major extinction level event, so, at least, my kids or whoever survives can listen to the music of Malofeev. I am not joking.
Wow you thought of that, I'm so glad there are still beings playing these type with such superb motor skills.
I've been doing the same! Also Yuja Wang. Two quite different interpretations but both exquisite. I adore Rachmaninov!
'a major extinction level event' - WOW! Not far from the truth it seems. We don't yet know how this virus will complete!
This is why he is so good. If you take A = 1 B = 2....Z = 26 then
PIANO PRODIGY = 149 = DIMITRIEVITCH (PV)
DIMITRIEVITCH MALOFEEV = 228 (PV)
A VIRTUOSO PIANIST = 228 (PV)
PV means Placement Values and I have added the values of the letter. So PIANO = 16 + 9 + 1 + 14 + 15 = 55 PRODIGY = 16 + 18 + 15 + 4 + 9 + 7 + 25 = 94 so 55 + 94 = 149. I'll let you work out the rest.
And yes, by using this code and 4 other codes (connected to this code) I can show how dozens of prodigies are connected to their instrument they play. My book Musical Prodigies will soon be out. Probably in under 2 weeks. I can do this with scientist (connecting the name of the scientist to their invention ) with actors (for example DANIEL CRAIG = 83 = JAMES BOND + COWBOY), with artists (LEONARDO = 84 = MONA LISA) sports people, authors and others. So its all in the name! Welcome to the Divine Codes!
Alan Potter : Ouch. He IS human. But you are right: The world feels now as though a “major extinction level” event could be just around the corner.
This young man is becoming one of the greatest pianists of the 21st century !!!!!
Crying again! How I love this man!
I love the interconnectedness between Conductor and Pianist … and Orchestra. A Trinity. And we are invited … woooed into becoming one with them. Awesome.
Absolutely brilliant! Also, don't you just want to give the conductor a big hug??!! I'm looking forward to much more of Alexander Malofeev. A true genius. In my humble opinion...
yes I love the conductor's passion
We should. He (Jarvi) and Malofeev are an unbeatable pair!
Oh man, totally brilliant playing! Absolutely brilliant concerto. Rach 2 is me...
This brilliant young man has introduced me to Rachmaninoff, something for which I will be forever grateful. This combination of composer and artist are a rare uplifting gift to to a world in need of beauty and joy in this challenging time in 2020. Thank you Alexander!
Bye the way, me too. Rach was not really in my Playlist, but now its impossible to have a
Playlist without these 2 guys 😚
Me too.. absolutely bowled over..
I hope you read this, Alexander. You are an inspiration and a shining light in an often dark world. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing talent, skill and passion as a pianist. I wish for you all the beautiful things the world has to offer. Play on... and, please tour the US soon. Thank you!
Dear Alex, it is January 3rd. 2020 and the world is not a happy place today. So I listen to you because you are the gift of love, joy and peace to us. Thank you Alexander. (Holland-eu).
what a beautiful comment !
Absolutely beyond sensational ... Malofeev and Rachmaninoff, if only Sergei could have met Alexander, what a meeting that would've been. Again, as with Alexander's other videos and not just Rachmaninoff, I get emotional watching and listening to this young genius of a pianist. What a gift he is to the world of music, may he have a long and illustrious career.
Alexander's transcendental pianism has a timeless quality, and is often like hearing the music for the first time.
Yes!
Every time I listen and watch this young man, I’m moved in such a way that it alters the course of my day. I hope I get the opportunity to one day see this pianist play live. And he’s built to play Rachmaninoff.
Thrilling performance.
The exquisite tapestry woven at the end of the Second Movement 21:33 is surreal, breathtaking and tear inducing. Truly an ethereal moment in classical music.
@cloud39 "exquisite tapestry woven"... absolutely.
His performance is passionate and wonderful
So young and admirable. He is a great and one of the most precious pianist in this planet.
Alexander can truly play the greats.... Listen to the Grieg Piano Concerto.... Truly a wonderful pianist... Bravo
I just watched him play the 3rd, and although I have a ton of household chores to do plus some written work, I can't help but put them on hold to listen to another spectacular performance from this extraordinarily talented young pianist, a much better use of my time! He is wonderful, seems humble, and is very handsome too. Wishing him a long and successful career.
Alexander is competing in this years Tchaikovsky Competition. Round 1 begins Monday June 17 and the final round ends on June 29.
@@789armstrong I can't believe he didn't get past the first round!
Yes and it really puts the Tchaikovsky Competitions credibility under a cloud. In 2015 they also did something absurd by not awarding pianist Lucas Debargue who was clearly the best pianist, with even a bronze medal, probably because he is French. I hope Alexander will come to the United States and win the Van Cliburn competition as Alexei Sultanov did in 1989 when he was only 19.
@@jacquieviegas7441 He seemed not just nervous, but kind of angry in that competition. I now it's exhausting and nerve wracking but he seemed beyond exhausted - did u think he looked angry?
Alexander Malofeev is the most exciting pianist in the world today. He seems to have memorized the entire piano repertoire. Watching and listening to him play is simultaneously thrilling and calming. I'd rather go to a performance by him than by any other pianist playing today, including Evgeny Kissin, whose turkey gobbling neck is extremely disconcerting. Malofeev is truly incredible. Once in a generation. Maybe once in three generations.
I will come back to this performance from time to time many times.
The combination A. Malofeev and K. Jarvi is the best ever! .......Tucson, Arizona, USA .......Thank you.....
Yes they are ver good together
Can't help but shed tears listening to this incredible, emotional rendition by Alexander Malofeev. He is truly a musical genius -- emotional and sensitive.
Wonderful performance and beautifully played by the orchestra also. They make a gorgeous sound.
I heard many excellent interpretations of this Concerto, but this is the best one by far. Sublime music rendered with a sublime touch. The Russian soul in all its subtlety.
Beautiful! Exquisite! Marvelous! Thank you Maestro Alexander Malofeev! Thank you Maestro Kristjan Jarvi! Thank you all of the Maestros in the Baltic Sea Philharmonic Orchestra! This performance is a blessing to all who hear it!
Fantastic and absolutely admirable Alexander Malofeev with this wonderful young orchestra and Kristjan Järvi. Bravissimo !!
Innate love for music, natural talent, true spartan discipline, total dedication,... all these virtues have made of Alexander Malofeev not just one more child genius pianist but a very young, consolidated and extraordinary virtuoso of the pianoforte, a great concertist and, perhaps, a notable conductor and composer too. God give him benditions and talent for his entire time life!
Such an amazing talent. He will go far.
the conductor is having the time of his life this is amazing !
I love the shimmering.swirling middle accompanying notes between the melodies in Rachmaninoff. Like undercurrents and swirling motions of the sea.
yes Rachmaninov has really brought some amazing beauty to the world.
very good description of the effect of this music
Out of this world! And a great and loving conductor as well!
Amazingly beautiful.
He is unbelievable
I know he is it’s impossible not to love him
@@richardgray6313 I am a grandmother my grandsons are the same age and yes I do love Alexander and met him oct. 1st. 2022 in Amsterdam. He IS timid, shy and ever so loving.
Very good performance. A masterwork of the unforgettable Rachmaninov, a genius at the pianoforte, a fine orchestra and a great conductor in front of all of them... Bravo, maestros!
Awesome... I enjoy listening to him play and get into all the melody's and in touch with everyone! BRAVO - USA - TEXAS
Give Jarvis the Baltic Orchestra all a big hug for his work with young artists.🤝
Yes I would if could. What an adorable man Mr. Javis is and he loves Alexander too.
He always is great 👏👏👏👍👍
A gifted and talented maestro. Alexanders interpretation of the Rach 2 is sublime and the conductor is in synchrony with him. An incredible performance.
He brings joy to an expectant world
It brings tears to my eyes the exquisite, beautiful moments of this performance. The link between conductor and pianist, the build up to the final movement, the orchestra in full cry, what an absolutely musical treasure. Alexander and to the orchestra, the highest of bravos.
He was born in 2001. What a phenomenal prodigy!
see interview with him on youtube. He deeply loves music, especially the Russian composers, He considers it a sacred duty to play them at his best.
I am planning to celebrate in October when he'll be 19.
I listen to this at least once a week and have been doing so for over a year. How I wish I could play like this young genius, not to “show off” but to feel the music to the core of my being.
Hel
Is indeed the servant of the music. The music dictates he's playing. No frills to show off and no uncessary gyrations and bo dily contortions to show offand "entertain".He lets the music speak for itself with his brilliant interpretation and input. This is simply raw talent. The real deal.I bet he has not one unsavoury thought in his being because this performance can only manifest from a pure soul..It probably sounds over the top and cheesy, but that's my honest opinion and feeling about this amazing artist.Greetings from South Africa.
Fantastico, favoloso, sublime!
Kristjan Jarvi,: Mr. Conductor I enjoyed seeing you having so much fun watching Alexander Malofeyev play.🌷
Did you know, tuhat this piece of music that's been most popular in the Classic FM Hall of Fame's 25-year history is Sergey Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2.
A brilliant performance of one of the greatest piano concertos of all time. Its in the top 5 of composed piano concertos along with Grieg and Tchaikovsky !!!!!
Pianism has attained a new Parnassus with the phenomenal Aleksandr Maloveev.! Please take care to allow other pursuits without allowing them to distract. You are flying too close to the sun at 10-12 hours daily at the piano, Liszt advised no more than 3-4 hours of concentrated practice daily to avoid mechanical playing, although that would be for one of mortal intellect, not you, evidently.! You obviously have the stamina of a Russian bear and the focus of a Siberian wolf. Please do not get burned out and get more rest!
Alexander didn't get past the 1st round in the 16th Tchaikovsky Competition on June 17-29 2019. Horowitz used to caution his students about practicing 10-12 hrs a day: "when it is time to give a concert, you will sound like you are still practicing" I personally believe he played better than the judges themselves, and it was too much for them.
@@789armstrong shhh... I prefer Alexander more than Matsuev himself
Exactly! The fact that he didn't get past the 1st round during the Tchaikovsky Competition on June 17, 2019, indicates that the judges had a stereotyped litimus test which would also have excluded young Horowitz, young Richter, young Arthur Rubinstein, Glenn Gould and young Martha Argerich, since they often achieved hair raising tempos during their early performances.
carl armstrong what’s the Tchaikovsky Competition? Oh...right. It’s that puffed up competition that catapulted Van Cliburn to international fame 60 years ago. Wow. What a great career THAT turned out to be. 😴
Malofeev needs to win competitions as much as a giant whale needs a floatation device. He’s doing just fine playing all over and winning hearts wherever he goes.
P.S. Now, if they had had real judges-the likes of Tatiana Nikolaieva or Sviatoslov Richter-on the competition panel this year it would have probably been a different story. They’d have seen this young pianist’s remarkable, unique talent, especially his remarkable ability to produce the full bodied, gorgeous tone so dear to Nikolaieva.
@@jeffreymiller4814 VERY well said. Competitions are more about the grandiosity and narcissism of the organizers and the judges than the true artists. I don't know if RAchmaninoff himself won any competitions - who gives a sheet. RAch 2 is one of the most meaningful and poignant expressions of feelings of all time. And Alexander can play it with just as much talent, feeling and enthusiasm as anyone - and I've heard a LOT of them in my many years.
The movie "Shine" - a true story - shows what happens when one loses focus. That pianist was hell-bent on mastering Rach3 and it broke him in the process. Careful what you wish for.
a reference interpretation for the 2nd and 3rd Rachmaninoff piano concerti; Astonishing is understated for this orchestra and this young prodigy. Thanks very much
Unfortunately true geniuses like him are easily forgotten in this day and age. I love his performances and his stage presence to bits, I hope for the best.
@Alan Potter ... that's all the more reason for we, his fans, to not let that happen. We need to share his videos with others, even post them to our Facebook page to help make his name familiar around the world! That's my thought anyway.
@@holymoses5590 Yes I agree with you. (Holland-eu).
Thanks God he is still playing and makes progress in his artistism. And now at the age of 22 he is extremely well-known all over Russia and the whole world.
Sublime Alexander!!!!

Lovely mellow performance. It seemed like everyone was getting over a late night razzle.
At the time of viewing, 28 people who are totally unaware of being appreciative and unable to watch and enjoy this young genius in action. Should feel sorry for them
Good Grief - this kid is 16 years old or thereabouts. What an amazing talen
Great day. Wonderfull interpretation of this concerto. Such a natural phraising. His playing is getting more and more free, mature and personnal. Besides the fact that his instrumental gift is developped since his very young age, as I have noticed and he always was very musical, here there is something more, a real musical deep commitment. A real russian soul appears. Generous and powerfull sincere musicianship. Very mooving performance. One of the best I have heard since Horowitz or Richter while I was studying. There were others good pianists recordings but this , Sasha's one is outstanding. Tbere is nothing false from the first to the last note. As they say: Molodiec.
What a beautiful and exquisite concerto from an Exquisite piano genius virtuoso!
Musical genius for sure. Wonderful technique and great emotion. Do not wear yourself out with too much practice. Short sprints in other physical activities build speed and strength.
Beste wensen Alexander!!!
YES, OH YES! I had actually thought to listen to just the first movement of this interpretation except this pianist made it impossible. It is certainly to his credit to have cultivated such cobalt-blue fire of poetic intensity that emanates through his minimalist gestures. He makes the music his own and shares the joy of spontaneous discovery; taking the audience on an epic journey through a masterpiece they have all doubtless heard countless times already. This is so refreshing! When I first heard this piece(in the mid-seventies) I was instantly enthralled and captivated by the expansiveness of the opening theme. I had never heard anything so powerfully moving before in my life. My favorite original logos(Music expresses wordless odyssey’s) would not occur for decades hence. The gift of music is a foundational spiritual, emotional, and philosophical pillar of life. In that it “soothes the savage breast” I feel especially blessed to have had this truth exemplified throughout my life from my earliest childhood. As a minister I understand it’s effect on proper speech and discreet-effective utterance. Not to mention the perfuming effect on inspirational, resonant writing. I am so happy THE LORD JESUS gave me this glorious acumen to share the joy and lift the spirits of the humble and seeking. PWG
Paul Green Thank you for this, eloquently written piece, you have mirrored my feelings exactly,we are on an epic journey with this young Maestro..I too was brought up with this glorious music,as an small child in the 50s..the gift of music is glorious, not only for those that can play and sing etc.But for those of us that have the ability to listen with discernment.Blessings from 🇨🇦
jean willis - Thank you! Because of your response I just completed another hearing of this probing interpretation. A most perfect nightcap! Good night. Paul
Ms’ Willis - Good morning! How interesting that my middle name is Wilson similar to your last name. A few nights ago I was up at 11:30 p.m. after having turned in at about 8:15. I decided to turn on my kenwood turntable and listened to Beethoven’s “Tempest” piano sonata, Jesu joy of man’s desiring, an intermezzo by Brahms, Schumann’s Arabesque, and lastly Tchaikovsky’s fourth Symphony. Some years ago an original expression occurred to me “music expresses wordless odyssey’s”, it is one of my favorites that you, doubtless would appreciate. My birthday happens to be the same as Chopin’s(March 1st). I think it is so cool and provides me a unique insight into this great genius’ musical psyche. His music also inspires my “gift of scribe” in a way beyond my comprehension. I sing regularly one of his etudes which I set to lyrics some years ago. My scripture logos for this gift is St. Matthews 13:53, “Therefore, every scribe instructed unto the Kingdom of Heaven is like unto a man who is an householder; who brings out of his treasure things new and old.” Hence the reason I mentioned the term comprehension. Plato wrote: “ Philosophy tempered with music which takes up her abode in a man and becomes the lifelong guardian of his virtue.” In that I am a man I am very circumspect to exercise this gift according to the grace of Jesus bestowed upon me to reflect His beauty thereby returning to Him my talents with the appropriate usury. This is a great privilege indeed. The voice of Jesus is the absolute music; hearing our most prominent faculty. Enjoy your day. Sincerely, Paul
@@paulgreen9792 Truly eloquent expression..Those "things new and old" you referenced are truly applicable to being faithful to a composers creation. Music indeed is a guardian of virtue, one I am sure King David knew of in coming forth with so many Psalms, many of which were originally musical pieces. Imagine for a moment what these Psalms, especially those with musical superscription, and responsorial, sounded like when performed in the Ancient Temple in Jerusalem, with the attendant choruses, and ancient musical instruments, of which David had a storehouse. Imagine the music of Heaven- there IS music in Heaven. The verse that comes to mind is, "And in His Temple everyone doth speak of His Glory." Part of that storehouse in St.Mat.13:53 is definitely musical or shall we say, sound, a joyful sound ; Psalm 89. Also, in His Presence IS fullness of joy. The ineffable Soundless Voice, the still, small voice often comes thru to us in music. I am Russian and understand this. The superficiality of mere mortal words and reactions does not go deep enough. Take root downward; bear fruit upward. Keep your insightful comments coming! Lastly imagine the musicality of the Voice, the Holy Voice, of Jesus. The peace of the Lord be with you.
It’s amazing how a kid can literally bring tears to you eyes. Rockmanof must be so proud! 👏.
BRAVO!👏👏👏👏👏
Bravo 👏👏👏👏Kristan Jarvi
Beautiful interpretation, on the keyboard, for the cadenza, from 7:31 to 8:03...

Que gran concierto ☺️ Bravo !!!! 👏👏👏👏👏
Steeds weer om stil en ontroerd te worden als deze jonge pianist Rachmaninoff speelt in eenheid met de dirigent en het ganse orkest!!! Dank,jongeman u hebt mij gelukkig gemaakt in mijn oude dag! Breng nog veel schoonheid............;
Only one thing wrong, the title of the song isn't in the title of the post. So, if you're looking for Malofeev playing Rachmininoff Piano Concerto No.2, this will not show up. But if, on the other hand, you can't wait to hear Malofeev play with the Baltic Sea Philharmonic, well, here you go.
-- Splendide interprétation. --
wederom Alexander ,jouw spel is wel zo mooi zo groots zo indrukwekkend ,eerlijk gezegd woorden schieten tekort .Ik geniet zo intens hiervan voor mij is dit fenomenaal goed
It is so exciting to watch the way Kristjan Järvi inspires his musicians!
Each time I hear Alexander play I hear new things!
I hear a wonderful focus on the music and not the schmaltz which can be the case with this concerto.
There is a "push" through the notes which keeps everything fresh and musical and moving.
Too much pause and emphasis is not what the composer would want.
This is symphonic music, not some schmaltzy B movie score which can so easily happen with this exquisitely composed music.
I think it is amazing that this music is completely within the grasp and mental comprehension of this 16 year old.
Never a falter! Never a forgotten phrase! Always exquisitely phrased and lyrically performed.
Please don't burn yourself out in your quest for recognition! I want to hear you when you are 40 or 50 and lionized by the world.
Don't blow it!
A wonderful performance! I wish the people in charge of the hall had tuned the piano a little closer to the performance. The upper register was pretty sour.
David Xenakis I heard somewhere that most European groups tune their pianos 1-2 cents sharper than the orchestra to improve balance. Maybe they did that here?
Yes, it's a very muddy recording. Poor job. Excellent pianistry, of course. Only Ivan Bessonov plays on this level today.
Maravilloso!!!!!!!
What a perfect combination of pianist, conductor and orchestra - absolutely orgasmic!
How about blissful, delightful, ecstatic, rapturous, truly productive of true joy; sehnsucht? I do not think orgasm is the ultimate peak experience; that is a notion no more than 60 years old, with roots in idealized romanticism. Having said that, may I suggest combining o with music like this. A true population explosion of joyous proportion may ensue..
Just imagine Alexander was just a little boy when he started playing the piano & take note he plays with the orchestra.he is soooo amazing ,wonderful boy gentleman at that.Viva, how great you are Alexander💖
