    Sprinting is a powerful exercise that can increase testosterone naturally and help you get lean. The high-intensity nature of sprinting promotes muscle growth and fat loss, which can lead to a leaner physique, not to mention you it is the absolute best method for developing your endurance!!!
    However, as with any exercise, it's important to practice proper form and gradually increase intensity to avoid injury.

    Hi Coach, great video. I am a track and field coach since 2017 and here are some things to add:
    1.) Start your run with a forward lean, this will get your center of mass in the right position and prevent you from heel striking
    2.) Try to land mid foot, find "the spot" on your outside edge of your pinkie toe, that way you're not on your heels, and not on your tippy toes.
    3.) Start slow, do it right, then build your way up. Take it step by step. Speed does not matter when training form (at first)
    Enjoy guys!

    The perfect running form in my opinion was from 400 meter runner Michael Johnson. The combination of heel behind the hips and maintaining a upright posture. Then to be able to maintain this form while sprinting breaking records at the time was facinating.

    This was a great video coach, in sprinting you learn exactly the same kind of technique
    To land UNDER the center of mass and one way to identify this is to see where your foot lands if it lands in front of your hip you know this is as a result of over reaching.
    It has to land just under your hips and with the front part of the foot, the heels just barely misses the ground so there's no actual force that dissipates through your heel it's all on the front part and hips working together.

    I agree, but you are not always running on your toes either. I believe that yes there needs to be a forward tilt, but heel strike is a very important component of the gait cycle as without heel strike, the process of braking and reducing velocity isn’t there. Heel strike is the braking system from my limited understanding of gait

    • @SuperhumanFitness
      @SuperhumanFitness Год назад

      But the whole goal of getting faster etc is to reduce the stance phase ie the amount of time spent in heel strike and mid stance

    Regardless of technique running, will destroy your body in the long term. Also, something very important to consider is no one is perfectly even so one knee will be taken much more impact than the other side. Running definitely helps with endurance and performance but is the opposite of longevity.

    Hey coach, longtime subscriber. Is there evidence on how cuing runners to alter their biomechanics has any effect on pain management and injury prevention? As a physio I haven’t found any so far. As far as bio mechanical rationale, any contact of the limb with the ground is going to cause a “shockwave” or ground reaction force. Maybe it’s the movement optimist in me, but if an individual isn’t already having pain with running I don’t see it warranted to cue them to drastically change their running form. That’s just my beliefs and biases though.

    I did a 3-mile run yesterday, tried to run landing on my toes with my heel behind my hip, quite difficult. I'm hoping this will be easier as time progresses or it becomes more natural. Did you have that difficulty when you switched your running form?

    The way we design running shoes with extra padding in the heel encourages this. Children in kindergarten don't have to be taught how to run on a playground. We develop these bad habits over time.

    Is this killing our knees or is it that most of us lack anything resembling consistency and progressive loading in our training and activity?

  • @sharmarke3314
    @sharmarke3314 Год назад

    I'm pretty sure landing on your heels is what causes knee pain. Because what absorbs the shock of landing is the arch of feet.

  • @samuellowekey9271
    @samuellowekey9271 Год назад

    I don't know if i buy the advice about keeping my heels behind my hips when they contact the ground, i would fall over. That's why we move forward, because we're falling over, we put a foot out in front to prevent our fall. The faster we're falling, the quicker we're moving, the faster we need to move our legs out in front to stop our fall.
    Personally i try to avoid running on concrete, If i run, i try to run up a hill. Taking a running step up a hill is much less jarring on the body.
    If running on a flat path i try to minimise bounce and try to concentrate on placing my feet on the ground softly.
    I just don't think people were designed to run on rock all our lives.

  • @faresBtoush1990

    Coach Firas, one solution i found was training with zero drop shoes for a while(something like a converse). Regular running shoes are good but they're heavily heel padded so they encourage heel striking. Without the padding you learn to land on the forefoot and then you can go back to running shoes. Uphill sprinting forces you to use the forefoot as well.
