I appreciate being able to listen to stories while I'm out wondering our woods or dragging myself through the sand dunes behind my house. I'm out here rain or shine hot or cold daily. I've been at it almost 4 years and have walked off close to 220lbs. Just wanted to thank you for helping me along my journey.

Just a tip: if you're ever hurt and need to call for help, especially if your chest/lungs hurt- WHISTLE instead. The sound goes farther and is easier to make, requiring only a mouth full of air instead of a lung full. If you don't know how to whistle (or even if you do) keep a whistle on a bracelet around your wrist.

You making light of it only shows your ignorance and naivety. Think about it for two seconds, you are out in the woods, isolated, no real barriers to protect you, help will take a long time to get to you. If someone means you harm you are on your own. But it’s beyond people wanting to hurt you, what about animals? Some can be aggressive. What if something happens and you find yourself in a survival situation? You will need something to hunt with and protect yourself. Taking a rifle is just common damn sense. Unless of course your idea of camping is a KOA or similar where your “camp site” has mowed grass, a fire pit, and showers and toilets a few hundred feet away and another camp site practically arms reach away. But if you actually do REAL camping, bring a damn rifle. Hell, I’d even bring one to the KOA, I don’t trust people. At least have a pistol. Or in my case both, bonus points for a knife, hatchet, and (sharpened) E Tool.

Anyone who knows more about bears please give me your opinion on attempting to share the shelter, ik things in nature don't want to be you're friend or want you near them but I know the are some instances in nature too of the situation taking priority to how they'd normally act. Like 2 animals that'd normally fight or hunt each other ignoring it to drink from the same spring in a drought.

When I go deep wood hiking/camping apart from food & water I always carry an axe, survival knife, gun, first aid kit, intruder alert, solar powered motion activated garden light, 900-mile laser pen, powerful flashlight, and m-80 firecrackers. If I hear noise around my campsite I light a m-80 and throw it out. After the big bang things got quiet. I even shouted "Don't mess with me MFs or I will hunt you down"

Why are the solo campers not bringing a gun? I go on a few solo backpacking trips a year, it's always relaxing and I always carry Glock 19 with a few extra mags. Carrying a gun in the wilderness is truly a no-brainer, for the wildlife and crazy people. I am grateful that I always carry in the woods and had to use it once when a cougar was stalking me while I was cooking a steak over a small fire, everything got really quiet and I happened to see a flash of something moving between the trees about 30 yards away in my peripheral vision or on my 4, after keeping my head on a swivel and feeling vulnerable I fired a shot into a dirt hill about 15 feet away and saw a big mountain lion running away from the spot I saw the movement, and it had crept 10+ yards closer to me in the minute or so since I saw something moving. Having something so big move so quickly and quietly was terrifying. I'm not a small guy either at 6 foot and 200 pounds. This was one of the most terrifying moments in the woods. I also was elk hunting with son in a remote area and we turned a corner of a dry river bed to see a cow moose with a calf about 25 feet away, this was way scarier than the cougar story as moose are massive and kill more people than cougars do. Also, my son was only 11 at the time so I was worried for his life more than mine. After staring at the moose for a few seconds I told my son to slowly start walking back and the moose charged us that I would take it and he was to climb a close by tree and use the satellite phone. Even though I had my 7mm hunting rifle sling on my shoulder and a 40 cal pistol on my hip, I didn't want to make any sudden movements as I was slowly backing away, it took a few steps forward and looked like it was about to charge me, after walking a little quicker and trying not to seem like a threat, we got about 50 yards away and I was finally able to get my rifle ready just in case, glad it didn't charge or that I didn't need to shoot it. My biggest concern was my 11 year old son was going to watch me get trampled to death by a cow moose while sitting in a tree and waiting hours for help 😢.

Moose are ferocious, especially during mating season. Les Stroud was stuck up a tree for hours when one was after him.

@@cantfindmykeys Seriously, moose are way scarier than a cougar or black bear. Working as a Firefighter/Paramedic, I responded to a call a few years ago for a moose attack. An older lady went outside to her mailbox and was trampled to death by a large bull moose. This was a horrible scene and the lady was unrecognizable as a person and looked like a bloody stain on the sidewalk. I also responded to a truck that hit a moose and the truck was completely smashed with the driver and passenger deceased.

@@powellcpr8747 How awful! I couldn't do your job, I wouldn't be able to handle the bloody messes. Thanks for having the strength to take care of it for people like me who can't. And I hope I never have a moose encounter after all the horror stories from people who have lived to tell them. One thing about moose I find interesting is that they dive deep underwater and their weird nose is a specialized breathing apparatus for that. So they might stomp you into the bottom of a lake as well.

Maine is one of the safest places in the USA so it is a surprise to hear people being stalked like that. A large majority of the crimes we do have are perpetrated by out-of-stateers so maybe some out-of-state people stalking tourists, looking for a thrill?? It just seems very off for Maine for sure.

I love hearing the stories where people think black bears are gonna eat and kill them 😂. Your like 1000 times more likely to die before you even go camping or on the way there then die from the jaws of a black bear. Now the mountain lion is a different story, thats why i always have a handgun. Stay safe buttersock cult
