To counteract your first hot take, I think Wind waker is overrated, and I hate how people feel the need to tear down Twilight Princess to prop up Wind waker. The story of Wind Waker being hated on for it’s cartoony art style is so well known among the Zelda fanbase, and it seems like now a pretty large part of the fanbase hates on Twilight Princess in retribution for being the thing the Zelda fans that hated Wind Waker at the time wanted. Nowadays people hate on Twilight Princess being dark and less cartoony in the same vain that people were hating on Wind Waker, and it makes me roll my eyes just as much as you when people hated on Wind Waker.
@@williamhardee8863 You are 100% right that nowadays it’s been turned against Twilight Princess but the main reason why it’s been torn down though is because Wind Waker also didn’t deserve that same treatment. @ I wouldn’t say it was rushed, well I haven’t really looked into the development of Wind Waker, but I would say that it was released in a pretty bad time. I mean a lot of people point at that tech demo specifically for making a lot of people hyped but regardless of it existing I think people would’ve been disappointed regardless. I do also believe in a way WW was maybe a bit too ambitious at the time as Aounuma has stated that there was something’s that was planned in the game that couldn’t make it due to technical reasons, like the swift sail. Also just how it wasn’t flowing as well as they wanted which he mentioned during the first reveal of Zelda Wii U (BOTW) Which I can admit is one of the key reasons why I find it hard to go back to the GameCube original. Honestly I think my “love” for Wind Waker is thanks to the HD version. It made it so much more tolerable doing the triforce quest and especially sailing the seas.

@@sullivanbixby6652 I do agree, the controls for sure take some time to get used to and can be clunky at times. I weirdly enough really liked it back when I played it on the Wii, though I do remember sometimes fighting the aiming, but I prefer the HD version for its new non-motion controls setup. To talk negatively about the Hd version though I do hate the gyro aiming for the switch version. I would much rather return to the Wii version if I want to play it with motion controls. I think my main defense for Skyward Sword though was narratively, it told a pretty good story that for me did justify the quirkiness of the controls and helped push me to finish the game.
I was a pre-teen or teen when it came out and I had no problems with the controls. If I wanted to strike twice in the same direction, I moved just a littke and then a little again. Sure it was not a "cool looking" movement with the controller, but it sure was effective
It’s because you aren’t holding the Wiimote and aiming it at the sensor properly. You have to be specific with your movements, people often just limply move their arms when using the motion controls or they don’t commit to the full motion. I agree that that can make the games clunky, my gameplay looked no better once I first played Skyward Sword, but once you get more used to it and play like Nintendo envisioned it it’s not clunky at all. It makes the combat a lot more involved having to find openings and whatnot, and pretty fun once you get the hang of it, which is why they built the game around it. That and the fact that it was the Wii’s own Zelda game, and it makes sense to put the mechanics you bought the system for in one of the biggest games for said system.
@ I do remember that was one of Miyamoto’s hope with SS was that in a way with how combat works he wanted it to feel like a true 1 on 1 sword fighting match. I think one of the perfect examples of this for me personally was when you went against the Stalfos in the first dungeon.
The problem with Skyward Sword is that it has the worst overworld and travel mechanic in the entire series. The story takes place in the sky but the surface is the main place you explore in the game and you have to return to those same areas over and over again which becomes extremely tedious and repetitive. I remember turning off the game during my first play through when I arrived at the part where the forest becomes flooded and you have to swim through it and collect all the things. I was just completely over it at that point. During my second play through I would almost rage quit during the Eldin volcano sections because not only is it the worst section on the surface but the parts where you have to guide the robot up the mountain and also when you have to find all your items just felt really boring and tedious. The silent realm was interesting the first few times but by the 4th one I was just completely over it. And don’t even get me started on the Imprisoned fights. It changes each time and yet becomes more and more annoying. I just think the middle part of the game drags so long and the fact that each section on the surface wasn’t connected to each other at all made the overworld traveling a grind to play through. I do appreciate the relationship between Link and Zelda in this game. This was the first time that we really got to see Zelda as a full fleshed out character and her close relationship with Link made the story more meaningful. It also has a beautiful soundtrack. Probably the best music in the whole series. Those are the aspects of Skyward Sword that I can appreciate and respect.
The gamecube collectors edition is kind of the only way I have of playing OOT and MM so I hope it doesn't suck! I haven't played MM since I was a kid but I recently played OOT on it and really enjoyed it. I don't usually care much about framerates though so when I do play through it again I'm sure I'll be fine lol. Great video!
@@captainrogers3849 Thank you I’m glad you enjoyed! Yeah it really isn’t bad for your first experience. I recently replayed it back in the beginning of this year and still had a lot of fun. I played it with no rumble so that would be the main setting I would pick before you enter MM as I heard that’s what makes it less likely to crash on you and gives you problems but I honestly don’t remember a time that ever happening to me and that’s with the rumble feature on.

Hype around a game when it released doesn’t make a game better than another. And being annoyed by seeing a character too much doesn’t make a game over rated.
I also mentioned that it felt the same when I finally got to play TOTK. When you first played through BOTW everything was new and fresh while with TOTK it was just an evolved version. I do believe that TOTK realistically is better than BOTW gameplay wise, as it did improve upon a lot of things. Story -wise it's all opinion based but I believe BOTW had a better story. They're both masterpieces in their own special way. I just think it was also my fault since I completed BOTW for the 3rd time getting all shrines that I was just sick and tired of having to do it again LMAO. Also google seems to disagree with the second sentence about it being overrated LMAO. Google Search: does seeing a character too much make the character overrated? Answer: Yes, seeing a character too much can contribute to them becoming overrated, especially if their presence overshadows other characters, is used without meaningful development, or if the overexposure leads to a perception that they are more important or better than they actually are within the narrative.
Hot Takes? These are lukewarm at best lol. Here are some hot takes: Temple of the Ocean King is one of my favorite dungeons in the series. It's not perfect, but the notion of a megadungeon designed to be delved multiple times and balanced for progression at multiple points in the game is *chef's kiss*. The time mechanic actually saves the dungeon from being a slog because you need to use newer tools to basically speedrun it as you get farther in the game. Majora's Mask is quite possibly the zelda game that's aged the most poorly. The whole progression through a time loop was novel back in the early 2000s, but it's been done better and with more grace in the indie scene in current year. Zelda 2 also aged poorly, but I don't think that's a hot take. Ocarina aged like fine wine though, the game's great. Capcom has better track record on the Zelda series than Nintendo does in-house. The Oracle Duology and Minish Cap are bangers, some of the best in the series, especially at the time they released. BotW and TotK are bad Zelda games. They're not bad games per say, but the staples I look forward to in the series either aren't present or are dramatically altered. (Puzzle dungeons, item puzzles, sword combat [let's be real, these are bow games] etc).
@@AlexKlindt How does Majora’s Mask age badly but not Ocarina of Time???? They are literally used on the same engine and have the same exact assets. Both games show its age but Majora’s Mask makes up for it for how unique it is with its overworld and story. Stone Tower Temple is a better dungeon than any dungeon from Ocarina of Time. The world is also much more filled than Ocarina is and Majora also has arguably a better soundtrack as well. And on top of that it has HUGE standout moments like the final hours, obtaining the fierce deity mask, Anju & Kafei, Stone Tower, etc… There’s hardly anything to do outside of the dungeons in Ocarina but there’s many things to do and find in the world of Majora outside of its dungeons. Swimming as a Zora and rolling around as a Goron was one of the smoothest and most satisfying things in the entire series. I agree with you about BOTW and TOTK. I have 1,000 hours total between both games and literally 900 of those hours are just me walking around. There’s literally nothing to do and the entire game is just copy and past layouts that become extremely repetitive and tedious. Once you run out of new things to find the game becomes a chore and exploring the world isn’t worth it at all because you don’t get rewarded for anything. And on top of that you have the stories that take place in the past so you don’t even get to experience it for yourself. These games are so empty and devoted of content it’s not even funny and the dungeons are somewhat of a joke as well. My top 5 Zelda games would be: #1 A Link Between Worlds #2 Twilight Princess #3 Majora’s Mask #4 Skyward Sword #5 Link’s Awakening
I agree with TP being overrated. Not just because of how its designs are overused, but also because the game just isn't very good. I wouldn't say WW was much better though. After MM it felt like the franchise went through puberty. The games were super awkward and tried to add dumb gimmicks that only really watered down the good core gameplay that has been established by OoT and AlttP. Also, TotK >>>> BotW. I get that people have nostalgia for BotW and consider it to be better simply because it came first, but TotK is pretty much objectively superior. It does most things better than BotW and yes, that also goes for the sages. They can be a bit difficult to use if you constantly have all of them active (personally I always just use two or three of them), but their abilities are a lot more interesting and can be used in tons of different situations, unlike the champion abilities which just trivialize the game.
I honestly agree with you on the first paragraph. I know my older brothers were not a massive fan of the wolf segments in TP, WW having a massive sea but having to change the direction of the wind was awful, (which they fixed in HD so I'd say it's way better now) Skyward Swords motion controls but my brothers just hated motion controls period and BOTW, TOTK they fell in love with. With TOTK being better than BOTW I honestly don't disagree with that. For me it felt more of the same. As I mentioned it has the same structure of BOTW. I get the whole "if it ain't broke why fix it?" But I personally expected more/ something fresh. Don't get me wrong though if I do have to say in reality which one is better TOTK, but with BOTW since it came first and was the first time where we saw this new massive world it felt amazing to explore. It had more of an impact to me. It could also just be that I did replayed through BOTW for the 3rd time and got all shrines and beat it a week before TOTK released so I got sick and tired of going through shrines again. I shouldn't have done that and that's why it likely left more of a sour taste as the saying goes when I immediately started TOTK.

Pauuuse on your first take,
I think they have used 90% botw/totk style link art for advertising since botw came out… right?
@@couchmonkey7309 for nowadays yes! That’s become the new “face” of Link which is kinda getting there for me now for his Link LMAO 🤣 but Twilight Princess was the first one for me where I noticed it for basically a lot of things. I’m still stuck on the whole Picross TP being a thing… 😂
@@couchmonkey7309 I honestly would have love to see more of Majora’s Mask advertisement with the overuse of the shadows or even Skyward Sword Link as for me… when I think of “Link” I am weirdly one of those weirdos who believes that’s look of him is perfect.
Facts on skyward sword
Hot Takes? These are lukewarm at best lol.
Here are some hot takes:
Temple of the Ocean King is one of my favorite dungeons in the series.
About Botw and Totk being bad zelda games is kinda the point they steered of from the old 3d zelda formula to make an open air formula
@@Ghost77196, yeah and thus they don't really scratch the Zelda itch, so to speak. Certainly not in the way that something like EoW does, at least.
My top 5 Zelda games would be:
#1 A Link Between Worlds
#2 Twilight Princess
#3 Majora’s Mask
#4 Skyward Sword
#5 Link’s Awakening
I shouldn't have done that and that's why it likely left more of a sour taste as the saying goes when I immediately started TOTK.
thinking botw is better than totk is a fucking WILD take. TOTK literally took everything breath of the wild did and did it better.

My hot take: Midnas Lament is not a good song. It’s exceedingly annoying.
@@lickerishman that’s like lava scale hot take! 😂😭 I love Midna’s Lament lol you’re the first person I’ve ever heard say that.
Cool if I ask what exactly you don’t like about it?
@@mastrplay3r I know! I feel so alone as a Midna’s Lament hater! 😂 I just never liked it and I guess I can’t put my finger on why. Maybe I just didn’t like a slow, sad, piano version of that epic Hyrule Field theme. Maybe it’s because SO many lists place this song over much better tracks from the game. Idk man, I just don’t find it musically interesting.
