BigHit is a company that employs hundreds of people, BTS are their money-makers, that is true, but the relationship of dependency doesn't work that way. BTS are musicians that could do very little without an agency, especially in Korea. They depend on BigHit to provide them their opportunities. They might be BigHit's golden (and only horse) but an agency can always create more acts - an act without an agency can do very little.
BH organizes everything they do, provides the schedules, the concerts, travel, accomodations, their equipment, their rooms, their dorm even. That isn't to say that BTS provides the most important part, which is their talent - but BigHit is literally the entire framework. Let's not create a false narritive here.

A company as small as BigHit used to be, might not have survived if BTS didn't make it. I'm not saying that BTS could have made it without BigHit, well of course not! And if BTS wouldn't have signed their new contracts and had gone off to do their own thing, they would have still been successful without BigHit, I PERSONALLY think. For organization they simply need a manager and that's it. They are able to produce and write their own music, they are even able to coreograph themselves. Sure doing it all on their own is a lot harder BUT it is not impossible. The power here doesn't lie with the acts, it lies with the agency. The agency are the ones who can literally pull the plug on everything. To say it's !just a manager" is very ignorant and defies the hard work everyone in that company does. From the makeup artists, to the organizers, the PAs, the editors, the runners etc. If they hadn't signed with BH, they couldn't have done it on their own because the business runs like that: you need an agency - and if someone else had signed them, they would have exerted much more power over them and their music-making process. BTS works because their relationship with BH works and creates a balance. Otherwise BTS as we know them would have never existed. They might be the golden horse of BigHit, but BigHit are the ones who make the deals with other companies, who market them. They are the ones who set the pace, the price, the distance, the schedule. BTS can't do that themselves and no manager is going to take something like this on without the security of an agency at their backs. Not to mention publishers, publicity people, marketing executives etc.
That strike though lmao, also ngl that BTS song made me really sad when I remember that their manager at that time used to beat them up, I'm glad he got fired, also the fact that Jungkook couldn't celebrate his birthday with his family until he was 21 really made me sad, it means the last time he got to celebrate it with them was when he was 13/15 and all the other members as well, I'm happy that they gained 6 amazing brothers through all those hardships and the amazing family that is BigHit and A.R.M.Y now, also they have a wonderful manager who cares about them and does his best now, they're well I hope~

On another note I wanna say that I feel like big groups or legendary Idols in general should, if it's a possibility in any way and of course if they want to, consider building up companies. I know that it's way too much to ask for since most of them have schedules that are packed like crazy but at some point SM, YG, JYP, all of the WILL retire(?) and I think this would be the only chance to kill this machinery. I really believe that's their only chance to escape this madness. Of course I don't know anything about the hardships that come with building up an entirely new company but what I DO know is that no matter what, it would get all the support from many fans since they all want only the best for the people they love. I will be thinking about this for a long fucking time...
Shinhwa has their own company and I think they're even managing a boy group. It just sucks that these kids really have to go through a brutal selection just to debut. Just being able to form a group together and debut as an idol seems impossible without a company backing you without their money. And of course unfortunately there are hundreds of people still taking advantage of these young and vulnerable kids.
There are idols who built their own company, but SM, JYP and YG are going to be there for a long time, because they have a CEO who is chosen by the board of directors. Lee Soo-man, J.Y. Park and Yang Hyun-Suk are not the "big boss" anymore, but they still have something to say in every decision that is made, probably because they are in the board. This companies are publicly owned and their founders have only somewhere around 20% shares or even less. Doesn't matter if they will retire, nothing is going to change for the agencies.

They might be BigHit's golden (and only horse) but an agency can always create more acts - an act without an agency can do very little.
BH organizes everything they do, provides the schedules, the concerts, travel, accomodations, their equipment, their rooms, their dorm even. That isn't to say that BTS provides the most important part, which is their talent - but BigHit is literally the entire framework. Let's not create a false narritive here.

Everything they do and promote also profits and promotes their company. And if BTS wouldn't have signed their new contracts and had gone off to do their own thing, they would have still been successful without BigHit, I PERSONALLY think.
For organization they simply need a manager and that's it. They are able to produce and write their own music, they are even able to coreograph themselves.
Sure doing it all on their own is a lot harder BUT it is not impossible. Jay Park is a good example for that situation(depended on himself after parting with his company and then just founded his own label/company)

The power here doesn't lie with the acts, it lies with the agency. The agency are the ones who can literally pull the plug on everything. To say it's !just a manager" is very ignorant and defies the hard work everyone in that company does. From the makeup artists, to the organizers, the PAs, the editors, the runners etc. If they hadn't signed with BH, they couldn't have done it on their own because the business runs like that: you need an agency - and if someone else had signed them, they would have exerted much more power over them and their music-making process. BTS works because their relationship with BH works and creates a balance. Otherwise BTS as we know them would have never existed. They might be the golden horse of BigHit, but BigHit are the ones who make the deals with other companies, who market them. They are the ones who set the pace, the price, the distance, the schedule. BTS can't do that themselves and no manager is going to take something like this on without the security of an agency at their backs. Not to mention publishers, publicity people, marketing executives etc.
That strike though lmao, also ngl that BTS song made me really sad when I remember that their manager at that time used to beat them up, I'm glad he got fired, also the fact that Jungkook couldn't celebrate his birthday with his family until he was 21 really made me sad, it means the last time he got to celebrate it with them was when he was 13/15 and all the other members as well, I'm happy that they gained 6 amazing brothers through all those hardships and the amazing family that is BigHit and A.R.M.Y now, also they have a wonderful manager who cares about them and does his best now, they're well I hope~

On another note I wanna say that I feel like big groups or legendary Idols in general should, if it's a possibility in any way and of course if they want to, consider building up companies. I know that it's way too much to ask for since most of them have schedules that are packed like crazy but at some point SM, YG, JYP, all of the WILL retire(?) and I think this would be the only chance to kill this machinery. I really believe that's their only chance to escape this madness. Of course I don't know anything about the hardships that come with building up an entirely new company but what I DO know is that no matter what, it would get all the support from many fans since they all want only the best for the people they love. I will be thinking about this for a long fucking time...
Shinhwa has their own company and I think they're even managing a boy group. It just sucks that these kids really have to go through a brutal selection just to debut. Just being able to form a group together and debut as an idol seems impossible without a company backing you without their money. And of course unfortunately there are hundreds of people still taking advantage of these young and vulnerable kids.
There are idols who built their own company, but SM, JYP and YG are going to be there for a long time, because they have a CEO who is chosen by the board of directors. Lee Soo-man, J.Y. Park and Yang Hyun-Suk are not the "big boss" anymore, but they still have something to say in every decision that is made, probably because they are in the board. This companies are publicly owned and their founders have only somewhere around 20% shares or even less. Doesn't matter if they will retire, nothing is going to change for the agencies.
