😂
Purple audio one was on 20:1 ratio and all the others 4:1
Softube had the attack all the way fast and the release slowand the dry/wet was on the dry??? ... opposite from the others.. Slate was great on Drums...liked the purple on bass second was uad... my 2 cents
cheers
Purple Audio for the "Low End", Softube for the "High Fi", and Universal Audio for the "Traditional Sound." Great review Barry! 🎹🎶🎸
I hear that too, guess just depends on what sound you're after. I wouldn't recommend the waves plugin unless that's the only option you have, you would think with all the money they make for there products they would or should be in top of the game but I guess the people they paid to sponsor there plugin goes to them rather then trying to be more innovative with there products. They have some cool stuff but I guess being waves as a whole just kind of meh now-a-days.
Again, they have a sound and after spending a lot of money from what they use to cost I can see people being devoted to just using them along with the hardware. All-in-all what ever works together the job done, we have some much options now a-days, it's seems to be a whole other job just to review plugins and test rather then just mixing and making music. It's crazy how people have the time to do reviews with there time (I mean younger people) honestly probably don't have a clue on what sounds good and just paid-to-say rather then mastering there craft, because I've never seen there name on the top 100 list for there work and berry does a good job with his channel and has the credits to back up his views.
I totally agree with you
Well said! The only reason I still have Waves is because I already owned all their plugins from decades ago and they give me a cheap upgrade price. They have a few plugins I like but for the most part they're a shell of their former selves!
@@rusj5273 We both come from the vinyl and analog days and thus perhaps have a more educated perspective because we used the real hardware that the plugins are trying to emulate. I highly respect your opinion!! Thanks 🎸
The Track has wayyyyyy too much compression on it already and then its going through these comp plugins is a terrible example of what each plugin sounds like lol. Thanks Barry
More input on the Purple and @ 20:1.. Im confused....
How does nobody ever have the DMG TrackComp? Is this shit really this rare?
Best 1176 by far. Not opinion. Literally among the highest fidelity plugins in the entire game.
This video was not about which was best but rather understanding the differences.
Never heard of purple audio before. Softube is the best. Slate Digital channel strip is meh for me.
Youre a gem Barry. Love your candor. My personal favorite 1176 is the Arturia FET. I prefer the sound to UAD, if only slightly - but the additional features make it really flexible. In fact all of Arturias stuff is TOP of the line
Specifically their emulations are incredible and hidden gems.
Like is said last week, stacking all the plugins back to back with no talking is the most helpful way to compare. Thanks Barry.
Please tell us about the glasses!!!!! I need some help!
I'm a fan of these comparisons. It helps show whether the cheap or free options are worth it or if you need to spend bigger $
why purple ratio 20:1????????????
That Universal Audio and Steven Slate sounded great on the drums. I couldn't hear a difference on the Waves?! The Softube FET pumped the hell out of the snare.
07:25 Drums comparison
12:50 Bass comparison
23:00 Barry's Final Analysis
Welcome to Studio Talk😁
The UAD and Purple sounded better on the whole mix imo!
I like the "Bluey" version of the CLA. "Blacky" not so much. But "Bluey" has a very nice tone.
Agree
Just watched a video of Stuart white mixing Beyoncé’s vocal with a cla76 black, r compressor and stock eq pro tools. We are spoiled for choice these days. Granted he had tasty hardware on the way in.
Very few people making music now will have used or will ever use a real 1176 so they’re chasing a sound they don’t even really know. The right plugin is the one that works best for what you’re doing.
Great video, as always. Just wondering, shouldn't the Softube compressor's attack be set to slow and the release to fast, similar to the way they are set on the other plugins?
Thanks for the video. Would be awesome with some timestamps..
A couple of days ago I pulled up a mix on a song for an album project we're working on... hadn't heard it in a while. Listening again with fresh ears, I thought the vocals and backing vocals sounded great - they had the Purple on them. Strangely, of all the samples you played, the Purple was one that I liked the least along with the Waves. I guess it's not only very source dependent, but also how it translates over RUclips. For me the UAD was the clear winner here - just had a weight and a smoothness I really liked and it just held together a little better. Thanks for the video!
Hi create a video on I would like to know why waves CLA 76 is so bad what I mean it what makes you don’t like it that’s something I want to know I’m just curious to know why you don’t like it my favorite one don’t know which one is is it wondered when you put it on the drums they’re all like distorted and sound almost like if you had some overdraft Blackan or something like that one don’t know which one it is I am blind sorry if you put that information on the screen so would be good to know thank you in advance
Great vid I think I will try the purple 76 you always said you like it and I think I can hear it so I will take a try. Keep up the good work and thank you for your opinion
UAD then Softube then Purple Audio. The others dont have that low mid thwack I want to hear in the snare.
The effects were the same on Bass. The Softube seems like it's adding frequencies in the upper mids?!
Barrys channel is great. I need to get back and listen to that dog :D. What was the music we were hearing?
Will the a77h be good in a 3m x 3m home studio ? I currently have the Yamaha hs8 .
It would have been good to compare the stock Cubase versions of these compressors (or as close as they can come) as a reference as well. 👍🏻
Hope you show the Presonus fat channel one. I actually prefer it over waves most of the time.
Yes I like this type of content, Thanks Barry!
Thank you for doing these comparisons!
I defo think the 1176.
Why nuendo? And not cubase ?
I got a really good price on it, it was only like $70 more than Cubase, so I thought I’d try it out to see if I would use any of its post production features.
1st 🎉
Which artist is this? That's a cool song
Velvethead - Unsung Heroes
Thanks!
Wow, thank you....I'm humbled..l really appreciate it!
at 9:45 you have two compressors on ?
