Lots of good info here! We did Logan Pass a few times in August 2023. Lots of goats and sheep around the visitor center. If you do Hidden Lake hike late in the day, keep in mind the sun will be behind Bearhat Mountain and the face of the mountain that is towards the trail will be dark (for pictures). Also did the Highline to Granite Chalet with continuation to the Loop Trail/GTTS road shuttle. Also included the Grinell Glacier Overlook spur trail which was brutal, because it was 2:00 in the afternoon and about 87 degrees with some tough vert. That trail has a lot of loose rock and some exposure near the top. Took about 42 minutes on the up from the junction. Worth it! We ran out of water (we went through 4 liters each, but it was hot), so bring plenty. You can buy water at the chalet, but it will set you back $11.50 per liter!! The last shuttle at the end of the Loop Trail is around 6:00 pm, but I’ve have heard there is a sweeper until 7. Not sure about that. In all, Highline was a 17 mile day for us due to we had to park 1 mile down the road in the second pullout from the Logan Pass parking lot. An iconic and unforgettable experience, my #1 favorite hike to date!

    What a difference.
I first visited Glacier Park on the late 70's.
Moved to the Flathead valley in 1982.
The 80's and 90's , Glacier Park was easily accessible at most anytime of day. Parking at Logan Pass wasn't crowded until noon or afternoon and that was mostly on weekends.
By 2000, the crowds started getting bigger on a yearly basis. Logan Pass slowly started filling by 10, then 9, then 8. And weekdays were as busy as weekends.
By 2015, it was a hot mess.
Glacier Park has changed. The huge influx in visitation since 2000 has necessatated the imposition of rules to address the crowds. Something had to be done.
It has changed the whole experience. It now seems more like a theme park than a wilderness. The beauty remains, but the experience is like a bad day at Disney world.

Your original visits sound heavenly! They are trying to fix the overcrowding, but I don't see how it can ever be as quiet as it used to be. Treasure those experiences :)

Well I guess there's both pros and cons...the positive part is all the money that's coming in for the NPS to maintain the parks, but of course the negative part is fighting all the crowds.

@@johng5710 80%. Parks keep 80%. The increase in revenues has to pay for the increase in personnel to service the visitor influx.
So it is not necessarily a funding boom, coupled with overall cuts to our National Parks budgets by Congress......to pay for tax cuts to the rich.

i highly recommend shuttle. i drove just once from east to west to get to my campsite at west glacier but have taken shuttle three times going through the entire GTSR to enjoy the view mile by mile.

Ash, when I get to Logan’s Pass parking lot around 7am which trail should I hike first: hidden lake or Highline? I paint to only hike 1-2 miles in and back out on the Highline.

Hi. Loving your videos! Going to Glacier mid June. I have a feeling Going to the Sun road won’t be fully open. Regardless, view wise & Sun wise, would you say it’s more ideal to go from east to west or west to east? What is the best time to go? TIA. ❤
