I started shed hunting 20 years ago and like most people I was only able to hunt public land. I just wanted to add that you can find some really nice sheds on public if you put in the miles. It can be discouraging at times but always remember a shed can be laying anywhere a buck has walked. Its a great way to spend time outdoors and you never know what you may find. Great channel btw! Thank you from Iowa
Appreciate this video Jeff. Keeping my eyes peeled. My new 180 acres in Ga has virtually no food (changing that big time), so its no surprise I’ve not found a shed yet. My goal is to be the place where sheds are easy to find because i have the right food and cover. Learning along the way, thanks for you knowledge.
@@Deerrus Extremely slowly, scan with binoculars, on a cloudy day or with the sun to your back. We found 2 this way on Friday, one we walked past & found on the walk back. The key is to walk slow & stop often.
Just got caught up with the last 3 uploads, looking forward to shed hunting as well and getting started on my buckwheat planting, when the time arrives, thanks for all you do Jeff.
Went shed hunting last weekend. Found a nice 8 point dead head within 5 minutes on public land. Spent the next 4 miles not finding a shed. I wish deer would stay on my property during the winter. They leave the area almost completely from Jan to March. Snow just melted and they started coming back last week.
Been looking on public land lately with no luck yet. In Northern Michigan so a lot of snow yet. But been getting lots of excercise and finding new places to hunt. Have found 1 button in my backyard back in January though. Lol
Hey I'm curious about planting fruit trees on my property (apple, pear, plum). I looked for something like that in your videos haven't seen anything. Maybe you could do a video on that?
From your experience how far do mature bucks drop the antlers from each other? I know it's a shot in the dark and they could be days and miles apart from dropping but I was wondering what your experiences were. I found a 70" shed in the national forest in pa and gonna try to grid search for other one and how big of an area do you think I should cover?
Searched our property here in Virginia with our lab pup but sadly he only found the hip bone to a neighbors cow that must have found it’s way to our woods in years past. Haven’t seen any bucks in the last two weeks might go search again soon!
This was the first year I actually went out and people say you can’t find them on pa public land and I found 2 4 point sides. Well 8 point rack but each side was 4
Thanks for all the info Jeff! You cover about every topic anyone could think of and I appreciate all of it. I have one off-topic food plot question for winter rye… can it be planted year after year in the hunt plots or does it need rotated?
My thoughts are when we got all the ice, then snow on top.The deer were afraid to move. Not finding them in the regular spots.Have logged 70+ miles. And found 16 so far.Still slippery on the north slopes.Almost 70 tomorrow??That should do it..
Likely random movement...more random bedding? Longer food to bedding movements in big woods if that's where you are at. Also they must not be on the food for very long. We find a lot on trails too...quite a fee, but within 50 to 100 yards of food
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751They have a L shaped trail and where both of the trails meet up there is a cedar swap. The bedding is 100 to 150 yards on both sides.
Hi Drew in open woods...immediately! Make sure that don't take the tops...that's what deer will bed against. No tops, bo bedding for a while. Also the tops are good to plant conifers into next Spring. After the cutting there may be some trees that you can hinge cut as well, in late July/August. That will provide additional horizontal cover.
Hi Len...hopefully you get a good melt soon! That snow can protect them for sure...but you can't wait long when it melts. We had a small melt last night...LOTS of rain but in the 30s. Going out to look today for sure.
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 still way too wet to get in there. Gonna have to go while scouting for turkey season. Had 17 different bucks on camera. 12 were at least 3.5 which is good for southern Indiana.

Friday morning I found a whopper scanning an ag field with binoculars, it's an Easter egg hunt for adults.
Ha, I like that Andy!! Congrats...and it sure is!
Cornfield? I don’t know how people find them in cornfields, to me it’s an impossible endeavor.

Thanks Jeff! Can't wait to look for sheds in 2 weeks, leaving the woods alone as much as possible! 👍
Nice...good luck Issac!! Hard to wait 😁

Seems like all the big bucks in our area (eastern SD) still have their antlers, I've seen 3 mature antlered bucks this past week.

Very cool he found BONE tho! A good sign for the pup 😊

Seen the first buck on cam that dropped finally but still alot holding still here in NC
We have just for the first time been a few days without seeing antlers. Crazy tho, I know so.e areas rather all drop by the end of January.
Lucky I think glad he makes It to next year
Best time to plant brassicas into standing buck wheat in the UP?
Mid to late July but only with good rain in the forecast!

Hey possibly looking too come out for habitat day at camp kicking bear let us know what we need too do too make it happen
Hey Jeff, we attended the habitat day last year and would like to get our spot again for this year. When and where do we sign up?
Any advice concerning buying back corn from a neighbor? (I can hunt his land 👍)
Hi Kurt! If you are talking about corn I have heard $600 to $800 per scre but I am not sure. It isn't cheap!

Porcupines and snowshoe rabbits are hard on them...
No shed hunting for me yet. Trail camera shows they're still holding both sides.
We have just seen quite a few lose their antlers over the past few days...always the odd ball holding in early April tho!
Bring the dogs? Or no?
