david, unfortunately i disagree. usually indian food is cheap not cause its an impoverished country but the spices used are usually procured cheaply. however that doesnt mean it cant be expensive. and i doubt its cultural appropriation since indian culture is pretty symbiotic with british culture these days
the colonization of india by the british has had a huge cultural impact on british culture. add in the effect of globalization and the massive amounts of indians living within britain which in turn has created a huge indian culture within britain. As colonizations go the India colonization somewhat accepted british rule compared to the other nations. this brings up the idea of gourmet food. if every culture can have a gourmet food why can not indian food? or indian food made by a british guy since british culture has been deeply rooted with indian culture.
